I use hair conditioner instead of glycerin it has a humectant and softeners, plus I always have it anyway… so no extra expense… I use organic no animal based products, also. But any of them will work like Pantene, Suave, my friend says the dollar stuff works as well.
looks fab and as a vegetarian i love the fact that it is not leather. I have a lot of UK viewers that say they cannot find glycerin, glad you have told them where to buy it! Have a great day!
I got mine from Amazon. It is used in the e-cigarette to quit smoking; Some stores have glycerin in flavors. I am going to try crystal clear or clear acrylic sealer. I put mine through the cuttlebug..Did a good job only thing it takes more time .I am experimenting . I got too inspired. Thanks very much for the video.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial! How amazing that the paper actually looked like leather! Your explanation is adorable. “Cheaper than chips”... that’s a new one to me across the pond. Lol Thank you!

Sheena you are amazing. I get very impatient with crafting videos that faff about but you are straight in there, nattering in your gorgeous accent and so watchable. I have learned a brilliant new technique. Can't wait to try to make some jewellery with it. Thank you so much.
Oh My Giddy Aunt, this is fab. A definite game changer for me coz I’m making diary’s, shoe box doll houses and jewellery boxes for my grand daughters and this effect will be ideal for corners etc. hi from Newcastle (well, Wallsend really) x
I love this Faux Leather Sheena. Got all the necessary except the new folders but I can't wait for them to arrive so will be having a go with a couple of your earlier folders today. Thank you for bringing us another fab technique. Beryl xx

1/21/22: Great Googa-mooga, Sheena, this technique was the BOMB and I loved it! I can't wait to try it. Typically, I'd use a brown paper bag, never seen it done with kraft paper, but I'm definitely gonna try it. And the embossing folder is really cool. TFS!

Hi Sheena. I tried this technique out today. I could not get your products to seal it , so I used Modge on 1, Hibuild Sealer on 2nd one and a liquid varnish on the 3rd one. I must say I think I am liking the liquid varnish the best, but all 3 have come out well. You do have to give at least 4 coats with all 3 methods. LOVE IT!!!

finally got round to getting the right kraft paper and will be trying the technique out very soon. I know Sheena does not have time to check the comments or answer but does someone else know how I can get the different colors she shows in the video? is it still using the craft card and just coloring on top with a different color distress ink ? Thanks to Sheena for all the inspiraiton.

I absolutely love this tutorial! So easy to follow and really inspiring. Tried it today for the first time and the result was close to perfection, almost as lovely as yours. I am going to be doing a LOT of this! I live in Sweden and I bought my glycerine at the pharmacy (here it's called glycerol).
hi Sheena, thought you would like to know that my grand-daughter who is at a London Uni studying handbag design, wants to learn how to do your faux leather as she is a vegan and wants to use your "leather" to make her handbags at Uni. You can use one-layered carton, paperbags (then maybe without or much less glycerine), Kraft-paper, packing paper. The thicker the paper the more glycerine you'll need, the thinner it is the greater is the danger that the glycerine just lets the paper desintegrate and it will fall apart when you crumple it. You can also use handcream or cheap hair conditioner instead of the water-glycerin mixture. Therevs glycerine in it, too.
What an awesome technique, I would really like to try it. Hope I can find the 2items I need.. thank you for shearing. Also Sheena, where could I get the Glycerin in the USA ?

Thanks for this Sheena, you were able to show it from start to finish without being rushed as you always are on C&C out of necessity. Could I ask if watered down pva would be an alternative to the spray and shine?
Thanks for this great idea, I've never seen this done before, I look forward in making a journal. could I use water & aloe vera gel, or alcohol with the aloe vera gel instead of the glycerin.

Can we use mod podge, decoupage or watered down pva as alternative to spray & shine? This is an amazing technique & I am so pleased you shared it here, too rushed on tv. Tfs :))

It’s called a “die cutting machine” a number of companies make them. It has a roller that presses the embossing folder into the paper. Some people try a rolling pin and an embossing folder. You would have to press really hard and you might not get the impression. I hope my explanation helps!

I just made my first one and used dark brown latex paint and I think it came out really good! The latex seems to add a good rubbery, or faux leathery feel.
Hello, I tried this and for my first time, didn't do too bad. However no where near as good as yours. See I use these for envelopes for letters and for my first time I may have used a bit too much distressing. But that's why I have more sheets lol. It's a mixture of about one part of glycerin and 5-6 parts of water. You can also use the cheapest brands of hand cream and hair conditioner, they also contain a lot of glycerine. The glycerine softens the paper fibres.

Sheena Douglass thank you I will defiantly do it. I have done some with some different colored paper and it turned out pretty good. I did black and then I used the distressed crayons in white and gray in the creases it actually turned out pretty nice but I would love to see what you could do you’re the master
