In today's installment of our daily sheep farming vlog at Ewetopia Farms, we delve into the important topic of feeding sheep and discing fields.
To begin, we've temporarily moved the rams off the pasture due to the need for grass regrowth and the unfortunate occurrence of sore feet caused by the wet conditions in the paddock. While they recover, we have set up a feeding platform for them outdoors.
Meanwhile, the planting of corn and soybeans has been successfully completed, allowing us to store away some of the planting equipment until the following year. Arnie seizes this opportunity to express his love for his trusty disc, discussing how it greatly enhances the efficiency of crop planting and contributes to the production of high-yielding crops.
Lastly, we focus our attention on feeding the lambs and emphasize the importance of providing them with a protein-rich diet while they grow and develop muscle, allowing them to reach their full potential. Join us on this insightful journey into the world of sheep farming and gain valuable knowledge to apply in your own agricultural endeavors.

Never apologize for talking farm shop Arnie. There's plenty of us Geeks out here that love mechanics, even if we aren't farming. Most people don't know this but, history's best inventors have farming somewhere in their background. Because farmers have had to solve so many varied problems to get the job done and no one to do it for them. Something as simple of purpose as this disc cultivator, has dozens of patents and innovations, that all started because some farmer wanted a better seed bed.

Lots of past presidents had farming backgrounds. Not anymore, and you can see how that's working these days!😆😅

Good morning Arnie and Lynn. Hello boys. The girls looked pretty happy going out to the pasture. Crop talk was quite interesting. I didn’t understand exactly how the machines worked for taking care of the fields. A rock flex makes sense to have as I am sure rocks come up in everyone’s fields. Congratulations on getting the crops all in. It has to be a great relief. Protein to help them develop good bone structure. Creep feed served as dessert for the evening. Well fed sheep are happy. I agree when you are to hungry you definitely overeat and feel miserable. Thanks for all the information. Always interesting. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😉😉😉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You can tell Arnie is so happy to get the beans in with his older equipment. It just changes his demeanor. All that extra stress is gone. So happy things are starting to all come together. Planting, gardening, sheep's look great. Awesome....

Arnie’s story about Lynn using food as a marital management tool reminds me of the Marvelous Mrs Maisel’s advice for keeping a husband: “Keep his belly full and his b***s drained.”

The rams will probably love their hay. I'm sorry that a few rams feet are sore. Is it really from being on the fields? Thanks for explaining how your disk machine works Arnie. I'm so glad that the beans got planted. I hope there are no rocks on your fields! Lambs love their protein lol! Aww that ewe looked so lonely out there by herself until Arnie came along. Your sheep are always well fed, they must thrive that way. Thank you for another great video, hopefully I'll see you tomorrow! ❤🐑

Yes, sheep on pasture are more prone to parasites and foot problems due to moisture and mud

@wadesfarmstead Around 42 times ? 😂. But cool invention to protect the disc machine. Neat that Arnie loves his machine, so often we pay a lot and the tool has so many issues, bad design that we are in a constant battle.

I am so glad Arnie got his beans planted. Here in North Central Iowa it has been very wet and farmers are still planting beans today June 12th. The rain chased them out late afternoon again. I hope they can get them planted soon but the forecast doesn't look good. Of course the wettest fields are left. In 2013 we planted them June 20-22 and they made from 42-48 bu/acre. That same year I got one field tiled so It would finally dry and got it planted July 4th made 37 bu/acre. To put it in perspective last year my beans were planted May 3-4 and yielded 51-55 bu/ acre even though we ended up in a drought and the year before May 14-16 and they yielded 58-60. With my experience I can see why Arnie was anxious to get them planted because the later you do the yield usually goes down. Sheep are my passion but I enjoy seeing the field work part of your videos. Thanks for another video for my watching enjoyment. I laughed so hard at Arnie's example of not getting fed supper and eating to much breakfast the next day when not to long ago he showed us what he was eating for breakfast. Looking forward to your next video!
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms 3 месяца назад
Yes, getting crops in on time this year has been close to impossible. Not only can yield dramatically go down if planted late, you may not get anything if they don't ripen before winter sets in. Anyone here who doesn't have beans in now, just won't plant anymore. Now everyone's problem is the heavy course hay that isn't getting cut! Ah, the life of a farmer!😬 Did you get yours in?
@Ile-De-FranceSheepFarm
@Ile-De-FranceSheepFarm 3 месяца назад
I got my beans in a day earlier than I probably should have but they were calling for rain that night. Sure enough it did. Glad I did them then because they are up and looking good. My beans are on my lightest ground. The corn on the other hand is on heavier ground and was planted when it was dry April 24-25 and has been wet since. Not sure if you saw my videos but stuck sprayer last week and anhydrous applicator yesterday. The corn is growing fast though and needed both done. Reminds me of your video of the stuck corn wagon in the fall. Yes, hay is the issue now too!

Question for Arnie: why do some fields have rocks and others not? Don’t they float up from the subsoil over the winter from frost heave?
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms 3 месяца назад
They all have rocks. He was talking about big rocks and most of his fields are now large rock free but rented properties tend to have more. And yes, every year, working fields and frost bring more to the surface 🙂
@alisoncummins2726
@alisoncummins2726 3 месяца назад
@@EwetopiaFarms Ah, okay! Rented fields having more rocks makes sense if they haven’t been picked over as much. Thank you!
@alisoncummins2726

Why do they limp from being on pasture? I’d have thought they’d be more likely to limp in confinement, from scald.
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms 3 месяца назад
Scald is pretty rare in bares unless you have dirty barns. The moisture and mud between the toes outdoors make the perfect environment for bacteria which then leads to scald and then foot rot if left untreated
