I am very thankful for the adventures that you guide us in. I am 51 and a medically retired guy. I have been fascinated by the British canal system since my younger days and saw them on tv. I may never make it over from Arkansas to GB to see them. I love the railroad lines, tunnels, underground places thst you visit. Its been fun and a blessing to see all of it. Thanks a million! A big fan of yours.

Really enjoyed that Pat, your one man film production is amazing. That you for taking the time to do this. I also owe you thanks for inspiring me to wild camp. This week my 12 year old lad and I went on our second camp to Kinder Downfall, still a bit nippy at night but with video's like yours around we had the knowledge to do it in comfort. Thanks again, look after yourself.

Pat, you are an inspiration ! I so enjoy your videos of the beautiful peaks and the fabulous city of SHEFFIELD. I used to live in Crookes in Sheffield, and have since moved away and miss the place, however, thanks to you and your videos I am able to get my 'fix' of the old steel city and its surrounding countryside ! I have also been back recently and replicated the pub crawl you did a while back and consumed too many beers from abbey dale breweries in the Norfolk Arms !! All the best, Steve B

Of your voice, I'll only say that I appreciate how clearly you speak such that even a Yank like me can understand you in some of the noisy environments you encounter. Even here you manage to speak well and I appreciate it. I'm fascinated by Britain's canal system. It's not something that's been done in the US to anywhere near the extent that you've done it there and I don't really have a point of reference for understanding the full benefit of canals in the UK. It also amazes me how there seems to be a whole subculture that's developed on the canal system. I also appreciate the WWII history connections. You all were certainly in the thick of it there. My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor vet, a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. It was the closest we got to being attacked although Hawaii had not yet joined the United States. I was in the Marines myself and came to London with my unit to participate in the 100th Royal Tournament. I was fascinated to learn that roof of Earl's Court where we stayed was used as an air raid lookout. I enjoyed exploring that building and am kind of sad that it has been torn down.

Hey Patrick, I live near the Lehigh and Delaware canals in Pennsylvania, I have always been interested in their past and fascinated by the way the locks worked. Unfortunately most of our canals were not maintained and allowed to go dry. Your explorations of your canal systems make me envious to get on a canal boat and see where it goes. I hope that you recover from your thyroid operation and get your voice back to full strength. Your videos are always looked forward to, I never know where your adventures will lead us. Thank you.

Great video photography it make you realise how much work went into building these canals. People take it for granted when they see a canal and don't think twice about how long these took to build with out todays machinery. When your stood next to that lock you look so small it makes you realise the scale of these things. Thanks for sharing such a Historical look into the canal looking forward to seeing the next part. Hi Patrick, Just wanted to tell you that you have been the main inspiration for me getting into wild camping. I’ve been camping with the scouts since I was 6 and I’m 25 and a scout leader now but new to wild camping. I first caught your first ladybower plughole vid after I visited it last year, since then I have watched all your videos multiple times and I love all your camping and exploring videos- well anything you make really. I’ve been on two wild camps in the last month with a friend and this week I’m attempting my first solo wild camp on Kinder(sure is nice getting away from the kids!) Canals are another passion of mine so I was thrilled to hear you were making this video. You’re the only person I subscribe to on RU-vid as love ALL your videos. I want to wish you a full recovery and I look forward to your future videos, all the best, Jack.

A very high quality video production! This canal system is extremely beautiful, peaceful and relaxing as presented here. The high standard of engineering is visually beautiful; the bridges with their scenic brickwork , graded banks through forests, well-kept canal edges, the sturdy lock gates and carefully constructed culverts are very impressive. Just the peace of the location is amazing! Your videography is professional and artistic. Views are always thoughtfully framed. The history given in concise delivery adds vastly to the interest! The whole production has a wonderful flow and continuity one might expect of a major television video with a large crew of camera people, audio, lighting, directors, and various hangers-on, all costing tens of thousands!! It is amazing what one clever and skillful person can do! There is not much scenery like this in my small northern Canadian town, but one can see so much in your excellent videos that I feel I was there! Thanks for your hard work!

Hiya Pat, Just wanted to say what a brilliant video and looking forward to seeing you again in part two. The Sheffield Canal is on one of my walks to do list, so now that summer is on it's way (hopefully), I'll be able to get out for the weekends and do the walk from Sheffield Victoria Quays all the way to Rotherham. The Sheffield Canal walk is a lovely industrial walk and that's the type of thing I enjoy. On another note sorry to hear that you've been poorly recently, wishing you a speedy recovery, so we can have the old Pat Dickinson back. Get well soon Pat. All the best from. Mike.

Hi Pat, greetings from sunny Malaysia. Fasinating and highly informative video - as always- of the Sheffield and Tinsley canal. Many happy memories of canal boat holidays on the Norfolk Broads and Bath and Avon canal in the 90s. Your walk made me think of this essential part of a bygone transport network in the UK. So relaxing to follow your walk along the towpath.. Looking forward to watching part 2 in the kayak. Keep up the brilliant productions and wishing you a speedy recovery. Cheers

Me and some friends went from the River Don near Victoria Quays to Goole in kids boats that we bought on eBay for £12 each. We've done Victoria Quays to Tinsley probably 40 times now. It's a fun day out. In fact, there are some amazing relics from the industrial past around Swinton and Conisbrough.. That stuff would be perfect material for one of your videos.

Hi Pat, Great memories of playing by the canals near where I was born in Hemel, Grand Union Canal I think. Later on I lived almost right on the towpath of the Portsmouth and Arundel canal, although the canal was long gone apart from the sea locks, the towpath is still there and it still lives on in the names of the roads and one or two pubs. Thanks for the video and look forward to the next episode in the canoe Good luck from Spain!!

Hello Patrick, Great video I enjoyed it very much. I watched your videos about camping in the tree tops.
