I watch a lot of urbex videos and a lot of the time the biggest issue is the roof Once the roof goes everything else does and in some cases the roof is intentionally damaged Shame about the old town hall
@@timawells my opinion on the castle is that all there is is foundations The castle was ordered to be destroyed and I think a lot of the stone will have been re used to build other buildings over the centuries
I'm quite ashamed of the city I have lived in since 1975. I have seen it progressively deteriorate in quality and style, and it is almost unrecognizable as the bustling and vibrant city it was in the mid 70's. Back in the 70's the castle was never talked about, and aside from the name 'Castle Market', I don't think any of that history and heritage was common knowledge. And here were in 2024, with the UNIQUE opportunity to dig down the layers of the heart of the city (but not to be confused with the name of the terrible modern development plan). No one would have considered the possibility of such an excavation opportunity back then, the markets were relatively new, and a very busy and thriving commercial area. Unfortunately the whole Castle market area fell into decline from the 80's, and this is rather a lost and forgotten zone in 2024. How to get this area back on the map? Is it building a rubbish park with some view to holding 'events' in the future? Will that make the area suddenly the trendy and hip place to be? I don't think so. The answer to all this is to make history come alive again, with a FULL excavation, right down to the dungeons, with a full plan designed to show off the very best of Sheffield medieval history. The whole city is being demolished, but by bit, it appears to me, replaced with ugly, concrete and glass eyesores, poorly built, and will themselves be turning into ruins within but a few brief decades. The mistake was already made back in the 1920's to build over the entire castle site, repeated AGAIN with the concrete slab of Castle Market! Why make the same mistake AGAIN!!!!
A golden opportunity to really get to grips with the birthplace of Sheffield, and all they can do is start to 'shoehorn' in some tacky park that will never work in that area.
