This presentation of the first album of Sheffield Labs is side 1 of Lincoln Mayorga and Distinguished Colleagues. This album was recorded directly to the lacquer master on a scully lathe without the use of recording tape. It was recorded much in the same way as a live or radio performance. Any mistake of during the recording of either side of this album would have caused the entire side to be recorded again. I hope you enjoy the beautiful music and what it took for these fine musicians to make this record.

I never thought I'd get to hear this disc. Thank you for uploading it! I had a number of Sheffield vinyl LPs, but lost them in Katrina, along with all of the stereo equipment, including my beloved Magnepan MG-IIIa speakers and a Heathkit AA-1640 amplifier that I built in 1978. The direct to disc recordings still sound better than the CDs, even with a few pops and clicks. You tune them out after a while.

gemli, I also have side 2 posted. I have 2 copies of each off the Sheffield Labs. I also have a copy of this that is unplayed and signed by Lincoln Mayorga. I am glad you enjoyed it.

I have a brand new never played copy of this that was given to me as a gift from Doug Sax. Doug signed the cover and presented it to me at the Consumer Electronics show back in the mid 90's. I never had the nerve to play it. At the same time Lincoln also gave me a signed copy of one of the first Town Hall records "Lincoln Mayorga and distinguished colleagues" which i have never had the nerve to play due to their rarity.

Hi Richard, I also have a never played copy along with the copy you have listened to. I've wondered if anyone else had a never played copy. It kind of wonder how many never played copies there are out there.

Wow, what did you do that he gifted that to you? I was born in 1971, and grew up hearing my dad play Vol. II & III and Thelma Houston since they were released. I always wish I would have picked up the phone to have a brief chat to tell him thanks for all he did. I have a copy that I found on ebay back in 1999, and I've never played it either. Mine was opened, and I assume has been played, but it is in excellent shape.
