Owned two of these over the years. YT transmission quality can by no means properly reveal the amazing sonics on this disc played on a worthy stereo system. Quality control of the early Sheffields was also not great so having a sealed copy is not a guarantee of owning the very best condition record - too bad they were not produced with the same kind of rigor as UHQR discs.
Love the song titled "Little Children." I remember going to the Baked Potato in North Hollywood (on Ventura Blvd. and listening to Don Randi and Quest. It was so long ago.
His rendition of Sanford could've been used if Fred wound up getting rich due to an inheritance from a relative he was always sweet to, but has, since, passed away. This could be used during a montage of him, finally, living the high life.
I used to have nearly all of the Sheffield Labs collection when I was doing vinyl. Awesome stuff! Dave Gruisin, Michael Martian, Lee Ritenour . . . amazing artists.
Absolute Sound rate as one of the best recordings of all times and my original copy is fantastic. two mics, no compression or processes as it is analog.
Bostic should be in the Hall of Fame. He influenced so many musicians in , blues, rock and jazz. The greatest sax player of all time. Earl died way too young at age 52. He had so much more to accomplish for the rest of us to enjoy.
Mi padre tiene este álbum, y yo lo escuchaba de niño, impresionado por la calidad de sonido. Recuerdo particularmente peace train y el solo de batería. Escuchando este disco por you tube noto diferencias de ejecución en los temas
I have this same album, yet it's different. Almost like a different recording. EDIT: And then I see people saying the same thing in the comments below!
This is due to the different takes o sessions they made in order to have a direct recording to the master disc, as master discs can only output a limited quantity of records before loosing quality
Earl Bostic One of the worlds best saxophone players ever ! He was teacher and the model for John Coltrane and (YES!) Charlie Parker. Listen to his fine playing today !!! He was to my knowledge the very first to play rock-jazz mix !
The Missing Linc is the second direct to disc recording made by Lincoln Mayorga at Sheffield Labs. I have it on my RU-vid channel if you care to listen to it. I also have Lincoln Mayorga and Distinguished Colleagues, the first album recorded at Sheffield Labs. I originally put it on with side one and side two as separate recordings. I have since put it on as the entire album in one recording. I hope you enjoy listening to them.
When word started to get out that there would be direct to disc recordings with only the very best musicians, Lincoln started to get calls, and letters from the best in the world asking to volunteer their skills for free just to be on the album. I have this one, and the other one (Distinguished Colleagues?). Only used a few times. Just couldn't bear to use them up. This sounds fabulous through Klipsch corner horns. I will sell both albums to whomever would appreciate them.
