Knowing that parts of the car doesnt reflect some of the actual parts in the real car, we put our best foot forward and got this out as soon as we could, given that we were teasing this for some time now.
From 3Ds Max, Substance Painter, Houdini, Marvelous Designer and then finally blueprinted, designed and deployed using Unreal Engine 4.25.
We not only wanted to put the best parts of most of the configurators we experience online, but also bring something more to the table. We had much more in mind, but the project had already overtook the time that was allotted to it, and we are content with how it has come out.
Ray tracing was a vital part of the process, all shadows and AO are ray traced, and RT reflections were kept optional as we wanted a hybrid reflection output.
Needless to say, building something like this from scratch would not be possible for us without the sheer power and liberty Unreal Engine provides us.
Next, we'll try to host it as a PixelStreaming project online, so we can showcase this to as many people possible, hands on.
