With sheldon and bernie's father bonding, they decide to have a beer. while howie is starting to feel left out. no copyright intended, entertainment reasons only
It did seem uncharacteristically of him, but then again, football is probably one of the exceptions he will tolerate, given how important it was to his family life and his father in particular. Without knowing it, Bernie's dad actually hit all the right notes with Sheldon to make him open up a little bit. Whether he'll admit it or not, football bring up cherished memories for Sheldon and, if his dad had still been alive at this time, he would've been around the same age as Bernie's dad, so it was like having a moment with a surrogate father, with neither of them having planned it, but both just rolling with it. If it had been any other sport, Sheldon would have most likely rebuffed him. A mixture of luck and taking advantage of the opportunity that presented itself.
Leonard mom because of rational and not crying like Leonard. Bernadette das because of mutual dislike to Howard and mutual understanding of rules and football.
I love how he delivers the like "Well, you're having one with me." It's not a question, it's not a suggestion - it's just a statement of something that will happen.
I love that Sheldon appreciated this moment - we know he couldn't care less for alcohol, but he understood the significance of "having a beer with your dad", and showed respect to Bernie's dad!
I do feel bad for Howard. His father abandoned him. Sheldon's father loved him till his passing. I always felt sad that Howard never got to have a father figure. On the bright side, he ended up with two kids and for sure he's gonna love those kids with all his life
Howard's stories always seem the saddest (that's just me lol). His father ran out on him when he was a kid, and he ended up spending most of his life being babied by his mother.
Yeah but Shelons been bullied, grandpa dead, dad dead, a family that doesnt understand him but more tolerate him. As much as he acts robotic and uncaring when he tells the story you think he is going to cry
I know. I even sympathized with him in the episode when Leonard and Penny started fighting, it triggered memories of his parents fighting in from of him, and it drove him to push Leonard and Penny to apologize to each other. Hell, I have a friend who's like Sheldon in some aspects, but I don't intend to end my friendship with him; I suppose in a way, we both need each other, the same way Leonard and Sheldon need each other...
It’s rare that a scene can be beautiful for one a gut wrenching for another. This was great for Sheldon to have this moment. But at same time sad for Howard who’s dad left him and his father in law has no respect for him. Great scene for all three men.
I think if he said thatbhe wanted a drink.with them, then his FIL would take a liking to him. I don't remember Jewish custom, so I don't know the position on alcohol.
@@Gumbier_ThanWell they pretty much established Sheldon would in these moments only share his opinions based on his own often unreliable perspective in moments like this. The narration often explains some of these inconsistencies. We are basically made to understand that Sheldon never truly dealt with George’s death and didn’t truly start to understand him until he too became a father.
I never had a close relationship with my father - however, one time I was visiting home - dad was sitting at the kitchen table and saw me reach into the fridge to get a wine cooler - he asked what it was - we wound up sharing a couple of bottles and actually talking. That was the first and last time I saw him alive. He died years later.
I feel for you friend. My dad passed recently and I just now am treasuring the first drink moment I had with him. Sure it might have been parental consent age and not legal 21. As well as the fact it was only a splash of Peanut Butter Whiskey. However, that was the first and only I had with him before he passed. So I understand your story friend and I'm sorry, but the same time proud that you shared that moment
Well remember that when one makes prequels there's going to be holes in how characters are portrayed and events happen you have to count on the vagueness and open endedness quite a bit I mean I'm pretty sure Sheldon had said his mom and him lived in a trailer on top of cinder blocks Plus as far as Sheldon's dad is concerned he's described and a drunk and cheated, I mean the drunk part is something can be worked with, but when one cheats I mean all morality and likeness are just gone and he dies early on too in Sheldon's life
They probably toned down the mean and borderline bully part of his father's character to make him seem more likable to the audience. In Young Sheldon, Mary and George still get along fairly decently, but in TBBT the way Sheldon describes their marriage makes it seem as if all they could do was argue and be bitter towards each other. Same with bullying. In TBBT Sheldon talks about the many bullies and their pranks he had to endure, but in Young Sheldon he is never seen being bullied. They probably didn't think it would go over well to see a group of 14-15 year olds pick on a 9 year old for being different. That's a bit muchh for a light hearted family friendly show like Young Sheldon. Same with his dad, really. They toned that stuff down to make it more appealing for their target audience.
Moments like this make you realize why sheldon behaves the way he does. He's had so much trauma as a kid, it stuck with him. He had to witness he's father cheat on his mom, then pass away. His siblings were mad and treated him poorly cause of his differences, and he was bullied a lot.
Sheldon is so conflicted about his father's death that he created a fantasy father in his head who is everything his father was not that's why on the Big Bang theory Sheldon is always putting his dad down because the truth is, he cannot accept the fact his father died or the fact his father loved him so dearbecause he cannot express his emotions. It's easier for him to express emotions of anger than love. It's part of his syndrome.
I might have come to a pretty good answer as to why sheldon never had an interest in women like the rest of his friends. He lost both the men in his life at a very young age. His head is always in books because his grandpa was the one who got him into the sciences, and his father died right before sheldon hit his pre-teen's, never giving him the chance to even have a talk about girls. The only contact he has ever had with women is his mom who had to finish raising him on her own and his twin sister whom he didn't get along with.
Yeaaah.... as we all know sheldon isn't like everyone else; therefore I came to that guess that he is the way he is because the men in his life died. I'm not saying I'm right, but guessing what might be the cause is pretty fun. :)
if anything the fact that all the men in his life died and he was only surrounded by women would mean its more likely that hed be more comfortable around and used to women than men and would have a harder time to relate to men than women
goatboy if Howard wasn't a Beyond beta bitch and actually had a manly bone in his body he would've just grabbed himself a beer enjoying the festivities instead of whining about not being able to do that with his dad. But that's what you get when a boys only male role models are the characters of the men that his mother oggles secretly.
I alway imagined Sheldons dad mimicked shooting the tv, then shoots by accident. Or the family watching the game, sheldon wants to do his homework, they see the loss, Sheldon goes to the bathroom, hears a gunshot and assumes it was his father.
0:41 currently watching Young Sheldon season 5, Sheldon is 12 now. Im really enjoying the series and George Sr. is one of my fav characters. The writers are doing an awesome job and I want more seasons but I'm not yet ready to see his dad dying. I will most be heartbroken for Missy.
ya the two most unlikely characters to bond are bonding. thats just great writing. if you see a possible moment you let it happen no matter how unlikely it is. thats life, special moments come from strange places when you least expect it and those are the ones we often treasure the most. that this show understands that and gets it right gives me extreme admiration for the show.
Its sucks howard couldn't get love here, but something i realized is Sheldon's, "do you mind" showed that despite being monotoned, he was touched by the sentiment, he probably just didn't know how to process it
Even though Bernadette’s dad was’t really giving Howard a chance, it was nice of him to offer Sheldon a beer as to give Sheldon a father son moment that Sheldon never had.
I gotta say, when they wrote season 9, they really hadn't thought of Young Sheldon. George Cooper is nothing like how Sheldon described him to be. He was supposed to be a drunken man with anger issue who cheated on his wife and yell at her.
Funny how Sheldon is always the annoying one but he always get the love and care of his friend's parents like Leonard's mom and in that scene, Bernie's dad.
I definitely feel bad for Howard but I’m glad Sheldon had a father son moment with Mike. I feel like had he had one with his own father (if his father hadn’t died of course) he’d probably grown up to be less strange.
Sheldon keeps talking bad about his father but George was a wonderful man, a wonderful father and ? husband. Sheldon is wrong to criticise his father so much
I always felt that scene with Bernadette's dad and sheldon was a great moment. Sheldon got to have a nice moment in an otherwise strange situation. He was not arrogant and remained humble enough to not ruin it.
msinvincible2000 No. He said when he got there that she was out of town & at another point he referred to maintaining his marriage for 35 years. Bernie's parents had Bernie & Howard over for dinner.
