Thank you for sharing your reasons for keeping several month's worth of food stocked up. I'm 58 and through the years, my husband and I have experienced unexpected job layoffs, temporary illnesses, large car repair bills, etc. Having a well stocked pantry has always gotten us through and allowed us time to recover and keep our family well fed. And, by stocking up when items are on sale, it saves a lot of money.

Thank you for the kind comment.😊 It has saved us many times throughout the years it's a nice little insurance plan.

The same for my family. I always kept 6mos to 1year worth of food, personal items and household goods. It allowed me to restock during the seasonal or lowest price time period during the year. It saved us numerous times. It convinced me that all families should have the same stockpile to see them through the rough times and save them thousands throughout the year.

I need to get roast beef for protein stock up!
@creinicke1000
@creinicke1000 2 года назад
I have used several types if the canned roast beef.. and just noting that I prefer the beef with gravy type.. it is thick and I like to put over pasta potatoes or rice. The beef in broth or water is a different consistency.. and like in this clip would be better for soup.. but I often use both in meals since 1 can isn't enough... ( Could be my hubby and I eat too much for our own good)

Thank you! I love knowing I can survive for many months with just what I have on hand.
@kenyonbissett3512
@kenyonbissett3512 2 года назад
Thank you! This is the common sense approach that makes the difference between surviving and even thriving in hard times and everything falling apart and crashing. Having that 2-6 mos of pantry items is a form of savings account. With careful rationing that 6mos can be stretch by a food pantry until you are back on your feet again. Food is a major item in everyone budget, your planning can save your family and can be a jumping off place for future success. My parents owned a heavy construction company. On a cold, sleeting type day they couldn’t work. On my way to dropping my son at his daycare, the road was clear. On my way to work (15 mins later) a large deer was dead on the side of the road. I mentioned this to my parents. My dad and a few workers came and got the deer. It was a large buck. Everyone got about 35-40lbs of meat to take home. I felt great because meat is $3-7 a lb so that gave them about what they would make after all taxes for a workday, meaning those men still provided for their family’s that day. Win-win!
@DishingDelights

What a great story Kenyon, you are so right! It's great you all were able to make great use of the meat. 💗

I was watching your video and finding myself getting upset because you do not have to explain yourself or your reasons to anybody! You are taking care of your family for the unknown life events that we all have from time to time and you are doing a great job. Thank you for sharing your pantry recipes because sometimes that is the hardest part of having a pantry - meal brain farts. 🙂 I am starting a binder of pantry meals that I can make in a pinch because when I am stressed I have a very hard time trying to figure out what to cook using what I have. Again, thank you and have a wonderful day.

For many reasons but especially with the direction that our economy is heading it's so important to keep your pantry stocked. We have been eating from our pantry a lot more this year. It's stocked well but I have been needing new ideas. Something different. Your channel has been so helpful. Great videos, keep them coming!

Thanks for sharing. I have a pantry, but nothing stocked like yours. I do have our fav "pantry meal" stocked at all times...Tuna Noodle, but it requires the addition of onion, tbsp of butter and milk. Which I always have on hand, but I'm looking for meals that require zero perishable foods for food pantry bags to be shared in our community as our church does an outreach in May. We've done this before and a common response when asked if there is anything we can do, or help with is "meal for that night". Our church has a food pantry that I oversee, but is sadly underutilized. I'm trying to create meals from what we already have stock piled (its ALOT). I've got some money to purchase additional items, but would like to use up what we have and at the same time create "nice" meal kits. I feel very strongly that just because someone is in need doesn't mean they should have to eat gross food. While I use canned tuna (chicken when we camp), I've never used canned beef (not sure I've ever noticed it on the store shelf). Again, thanks for sharing your video(s). I'm going to type out some recipes based on what you've shared and put together bags in the coming weeks. I commend you for planning for what the future holds and being self reliant. I know personally, nothing makes me happier than helping someone who truly is trying to help themselves. We can all use a helping hand at times, but knowing that someone is trying to help themselves goes a long way. Blessings to you and your husband.

Looking back on my life (73 years!) I wish I had done more of this. Yes there are always unexpected bills-especially with kids. And unexpected illnesses, surgeries, layoffs. I’ve concluded that every family needs just 3 levels of food storage: paycheck-paycheck, 5 days emergency meals, and 3 months hard times. This allows you to rotate your food items. The first is your regular planned meals. The Emergency bucket or tote is for power outages, local storms, or car issues. I should be able to get to the store within that time. Plus I have what is in the house for the first level. The Hard Times can happen too. But if the issue is not resolved in a month or two, then I’d have to look for other answers. If it’s something like a flood or tornado, the food I’ve worked so hard to collect will be destroyed.
@SouthernWifeEverydayLife
@SouthernWifeEverydayLife 2 года назад
I don’t know how fast you use your flour, but I put mine in a 5 gallon bucket with a tight lid to keep out bugs! Or you can freeze it in a ziplock bag to keep it fresher longer!
@DishingDelights
@DishingDelights 2 года назад
Great tip! I keep a 5 gallon bucket with a gamma seal lod for my excess flour and I pull one bag out at a time. I do have a lot of wheat berries I need to start working through but pre ground flour is just so much easier I need to get out of the habit of using it. 😊

My household is just me and hubby, we are both aging, we both have health issues. He is in stage 4 kidney cancer (both kidneys). He also has heart issues at 74 we walk a very careful path with him. I’m 57, I have Lynch Syndrome (I’ve had cancer 4 times) I have also had 5 spinal surgeries, so it’s been hard, but because of that I have stocked up for those days that I know we will not be able to go to the store. With my surgeries I’ve been 12 weeks before stores. I understand why you have built a pantry. I’m impressed that you have your husband look in one cabinet….lol how did you do that? Much respect

I love this video! We are so alike when it comes to food storage lol. I turned a utility closet in to a pantry as well, its one of my favorite spaces now lol. I'm not sure exactly how much I have saved up but I know its several months worth. I coupon really hard so I keep a stockpile of food, drinks, snacks and other home essentials. I keep the excess snacks out of sight so I am not reaching for them easily lol. I completely agree that it gives me major comfort and safety know I have it. I've been doing this for years but this pandemic really showed me how easy it is to loose a whole source of income and be happy that I had some cushion to rely on. Great video! 💛

Thank you so much for this info and recipes! Do you have any other recipes with no meat, perhaps using beans for the protein? TIA! 😊😊

These days and times are hard. Rinse all can food for salt. I have learned how to dress up all the spam, and other meats we would not normally eat.

Just found your page for pantry meal ideas (TY). When assembling the items, is there a reason the liquid isn’t drained from the cans and replaced with a broth? I’ve always drained them since that’s how I was taught so I never knew if there’s a reason to use the liquid?

Sugar needs to be store in air tight containers so it won’t get hard. I use canning jars for the sugar.
