In today's vlog, I will be showing everyone the "shelfie beers" that I'll be reviewing during the month of July here on the channel. Most of the beers should be able to be procured by many of you ... or that's the hope, at least. All of these beers will be reviewed every Tuesday and Friday this month, so I hope some of you can grab a few of these beers and drink along with my reviews! Thanks for the all the support!

Uncle Sam! JUST IN TIME FOR THE 4TH OF JULY! You sneaky ... LOL! Awesome to see you around, man. Hope all is well! Lots of fun beer in that lineup, for sure. Cheers!

Looks like another good lineup Joe, I look forward to your thoughts on the Surf House Lager. Cheers 🍻!

Thanks, buddy! I remember you saying you have thoughts on it, so I'm curious to see what those are after I review it. Seems simple and pretty straight-forward. Guess we'll see! Cheers, duder!

Hey Joe, keep an eye open for a brewery called Little Willow. The beers are local to me. The brewer Kyle Hume actually lives in the same town I live in. They started distributing to New York. Your buddy Dan FLX had one of his beers. Their beers are FANTASTIC! Cheers🍻

We did get a drop of Little Willow stuff recently. I'll have to grab a single and give something from them a go. Any recommendations? If so, throw 'em out there and I'll see what we have. I'm looking forward to trying them based on what you and Dan have said about 'em. Cheers, Angel!

Good Morning! Everything! Had 42 beers. The two that I just had were great Slow Down and Beachcomber. A sour dropped about a month ago Fruits of Labor. The brewer works at a brewery a few towns over and he makes his beers there.

I saw on social media that they just released Beachcomber, so that will be on the list. I'll grab something whenever I see their stuff, though.

Shelfie Beers is all I ever do! All the beer shops around me are adverse to singles.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
That sucks! I'm lucky that I have quite a few that sell singles, but if they didn't, I probably wouldn't do something like this. Too expensive, and there's no way I'm drinking 4/6 packs of all these beers. Cheers, man!

I've had the Northcoast and the 120 minute. Total Wine and more just opened up. They do a pretty good job of singles.

Nice! I wish we had a Total Wine around here. Maybe at some point. Cheers, Rodney!

Was hoping for your July shelfie even though it's still only June to kick off a holiday week. Saw big cans of either Arrogant or Double Bastard, I'll pick one up. I have a Samichlaus 2015, Boulevard Nutcracker and Grand Cru Elf for Christmas in July. Excited about your Dogfish Head but thought that's not a shelfie, what I have is not but same color label. Utopias Barrel Aged World Wide Stout. Don't know what to do with it, sounds just too special.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
Nice! I'm conflicted on whether or not 120 Minute IPA is actually a shelfie, but I'd say in the year 2024, it qualifies. It's one of those classic beers that many folks can easily grab nowadays, but the same couldn't be said 5+ years ago. I had to throw it into the mix, haha! I'm looking forward to all the beers, though. I have a bottle of that Utopias BA World Wide Stout that I'll be reviewing at some point this year, probably in August. Cheers, Jeff!

TRIPLE BOCK????????? I need to get my hands on that!! I hear you on the singles. Very rarely do I find a somewhat decent selection of singles which forces me to buy a 6pk. I share with a few friends luckily. Cheers, Joe!

@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
Yeah, man ... Samichalus is legit! Need to find it. Whatever store close to you that has a good import section should have it. It's such a wild ride, haha! And yeah, it sucks about the singles, but I think I'll be able to make it work. Cheers, man!

@@averagejoe716 I see Halftime carries it, I don’t have a great import selection near me, but if I talk to the owner I’ll see if he can get some of the Samichalus

I've had Purple Haze, Harpoon Summer Style, Brother Thelonious, and Sour Me Unicorn Farts. My favorite of those is the Brother Thelonious with Harpoon Summer Style in 2nd. I didn't love Purple Haze or Unicorn Farts. I have a 6 pack of Allagash Surf House I haven't opened yet. The one I most want to try out of these is the 120 minute. I've wanted to try 120 minute for years, I loved the Utopias version.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
Nice! Seems as if you've had a decent amount of these. I'm curious about the Surf House, too. 120 is a beast of a beer, and WAY different than that Utopias version. I haven't had a relatively fresh bottle in many years. I'm intrigued by what my palate will think about it nowadays. Cheers!

@@averagejoe716 I think it replaced Seconds to Summer which was a previous summer seasonal and lager they had last year. They also had Beach Report but I dont know if it came back this year. Its crazy to think some of these liquor stores I go to had some summer seasonals from last year still on the shelves as of a few months ago. Thats how it goes unfortunately.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
That's pretty gross! I'm sure if any bottle shop I go to has seasonals from last year, I'm not shopping there or I'm telling the manager. Like you've said in the past, though, some places don't care. Very unfortunate.

my krogers here has a make your own six pack section, i like it because gives me a chance to try new beer without buying a whole 6 or 12 pack
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
Same here with Wegmans. The unfortunate thing about the mixed six area at grocery stores is that you're limited to whatever is in the area. Most of the Wegmans have a pretty solid selection, but the vast majority of their beer I've already reviewed. Plus, they tend to have much older bottles/cans. I do occasionally buy a mix six pack from them, but only if there's at least three beers that I know I'll use for the month. I might have to check more Wegmans stores going forward, though. Cheers!
@Chaz4543
@Chaz4543 Месяц назад
@@averagejoe716 Mix a six at grocery stores for a fixed price is still better than a mix a six at a liquor store where there's no fixed price and they charge you for each can/bottle and only give you a 10% discount. Thats all I can get because the local grocery chains here dont sell alcohol.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 Месяц назад
It depends, Chaz. Wegmans = $12.99/6 pack, and it depends on the beer. Most places I go to, if it's a 12 fl. oz can, I can get it for under $2/can, so it's better value than Wegmans. However, Wegmans sometimes have beers that other stores won't break up for singles. It all depends. I'm going to try to keep everything going, but if it gets to a point where I can't, then I'm going to need to figure out something for shelfie beer reviews. I love doing 'em, so I want to keep 'em going!

I have a hot take on shelfie beers and Im interested in hearing your reaction to it. I really abhor shelfies in the 16 oz can 4 pack format. All the old sheflies we got into over a decade ago were all in 12 oz 6 packs and 12 oz 12 packs. The bombers were the specialty more rare beers. Flash forward to today and the 16 oz can 4 pack is used by everyone from shelfie craft to the macros. I really think the 16 oz can 4 pack format should be reserved for beer you can only get at the brewery or locally in your town or area. I hate that everyone went to that format. Do I really need Shiner Bock in the 16 oz 4 pack format ? No but it exists. Why am I going to buy a 16 oz 4 pack of Allagash White (which exists) when its also in 6 packs of bottles and 12 oz can 12 packs. I wonder if you agree with my point or do you think Im totally wrong lol. I like the 19.2 oz stovepipe can format by the way. I dont know why I dont mind shelfies using that format. Maybe because its just 1 to try.
@averagejoe716
@averagejoe716 28 дней назад
I actually agree with you. I've always thought 12 fl. oz cans in six or 12 packs = shelfies, while 16 fl. oz cans in four packs -- along with 12.7 fl. oz bottles, 16.9 fl. oz bottles and 22 fl. oz bottles -- are "special." I also think of the stovepipe cans as being more in the shelfie realm because most of the beers served in those cans are typically in 12 fl. oz cans. I'd much rather have a six pack of 12 fl. oz cans than a four pack of 16 fl. oz cans when it comes to beers that I'm going to session. I've always felt that way. Cheers, man!
