Millions of people have visited Joseph Sherfy’s famous Peach Orchard on the southern end of the Gettysburg Battlefield. But the story of the Sherfy family and their home along the Emmitsburg Road is not as well known. On July 6, 1863 - 158 years ago - the family returned to find scenes of unbelievable carnage and destruction. Some of this battle damage is still visible today. Other artifacts from the farm are preserved by the Adams County Historical Society and will be brought back to the property for this real-time digital program.
This program was recorded on Tuesday, July 6th with historians from Gettysburg National Military Park, the Gettysburg Foundation, and the Adams County Historical Society.

Very great content. I doubt I would have ever had the opportunity to see the inside of this historic home, so, while you may not have brought the bodies into our homes, you've done something much like it, lol. Mea culpa, I'm paraphrasing.

Great Program gentlemen. Always interesting to find out what happened at the family home in July 1863. Thanks so much. I have been lucky to get to tour in the inside of the home and was surprised by what appears to be holes in the bathroom door upstairs possibly made by gunshots? It might be fun if you could take us all on a tour inside at some point in the future.

I am very interested in more information on the 105th Pennsylvania that fought there I am an ancestor of Col Calvin A. Craig relation through this brother as he never had the opportunity to have children and only thing I can find is details in his after battle report and what is written in the book The History of the 105th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. I am most interested in the late hours of the second day when they formed back up to help take back the cannons.. if anybody has any further information I would appreciate hearing and seeing it.

This is so fascinating! One little thing. Could you please ask presenters that are showing pictures or artifacts not to gesture with those items? I know I sound picky, but it is so interesting and I want a good look at the wonderful things that you are showing us.

The government never compensated them for the damages that the war caused to their property. The government didn’t care about them or the people. Some things never change…

Lol, yep, a little distracting. I was trying to focus on that pic too, it was difficult. BUT ... that said, I always get a kick out of how excited these presenters get. Why? Because I'm excited about the content too! Who says history is boring? So, I've said it before, lol, cut the guy some slack. He clearly loves what he does. Shame more people can't make that same claim. Go Tim and all!
