😂😂😂😂 Oliver is so funny when he gets frustrated and Grumpy !!! Love it. I can relate to not finding what you had hoped for. We are at the Mercy of The Sea and the gifts she is prepared to share !!
I have the best of both worlds ! I often go shelling with my sister. We split up on the beach and go hunt solo, then meet up further down the shore and show each other our sea treasures. Love it !
Holden beach is beautiful. i was there last summer and it was olive heaven during my visit. i only had a few hours there and i came back with an abundant amount of beautiful olives. thanks for taking us along even on slower shell days.
Yes, that's how it was when we were there last year, too! 🤯 It was a SHELLAPALOOZA! It's still fun to treasure hunt now, too, but yes, a little slower for sure. Holden Beach is absolutely a beautiful place! 😍🌊
Only got to see the table of amazing treasures SALTY REFLECTIONS has found and shared with us all. Catch this one later, taking dad to the doctor to get him checked out. Now when I get home I’ll have a good video with good folks to enjoy. Thanks again Oliver and Stef for sharing all your videos and Ives with us all good fishing and Gods blessings to you all. 🦐🎥💯👍
Thank you! We try to enjoy our time together & cut up. Thanks so much for helping remind us ... it's definitely not all about the shells. 👩🏼🤝👨🏻🌊😍 We are blessed to have each other to go to the beach with! 🙏 Thanks for coming along for the beach walk! 👣🌊🐚
This is very cool! I had watched a couple of the crabbing videos, and did not realize ya'll did this too. I like both! I make jewelry for my daughter, and lady friends, etc. with shells. Mostly from Sandbridge Beach, VA.
We love venturing out to barrier islands around our area and going to other areas looking for beach treasures. It's one of our hobbies that keeps us busy. We love shark tooth hunting too. We have thousands of shells and thousands of shark teeth. I really wonder if Steph and I have a problem. 🤔 😂
Steff wants to find a Lion's paw! Don't worry about not having great shell days all the time Oliver. You guys are fun to hang out with. Love listening to you both talk and joke around. I'm here for it all! And I think the mystery piece is a horse conch. Rachelle, Australia
Yeah, we are spoiled to finding so many beautiful treasures to share with our Saltaholics! 😜 I think he was hoping for big shell piles like it was last year & tons of 3-5 inch shark teeth like we had seen people posting online lately. Maybe we just weren't in the right spot. Because of course, location is key! We are thankful you enjoy hanging out with us nutty beach lovers! 🤪😁 Yep, I agree & it would have been a big one! 😕🐎🐚
I so miss my husband shelling with me for 30 or more yrs before he passed. Good memories I treasure! I finally got my daughter turned into a shell hoarder so that's all we do at any beach. I'm leaving tomorrow for North Myrtle for 4 days. Have not been there in over 20 yrs. Im going to slide up to Holden and check it out. I just want one sea biscuit. Never found one. I love any kind of fossils too so wish me luck!
Good luck! 🤞🐚 I hope yall are having a great trip & finding lots of goodies! Your memories treasure hunting together - new with your daughter & past with your late husband - are the best treasures a lifetime can offer! 👩🏼🤝👨🏻💙👭🙏
It would be nice to have a friend to walk with but not someone who collects shells! I used to go with my sister and she would find shells that she knew I'd like. She's not a collector so she was safe to go with!
How exciting to get back to Holden Beach! I remember the last time you were there. It was like you won the lottery! I'm glad to be able to walk along with you both. Love the sound of the ocean!
Welcome back to Holden Beach with us! You're right ✅️ there were SO MANY shells here last time. We still found plenty but had to search & walk a lot more this time vs them just in big piles like before. We are glad to get back up there & check it out again. Glad you joined us for another adventure! 🤗🌊👣🐚
I love the sea briskets, I never saw anything like that. When I was able I would go to the New Jersey beaches. The common ones for you at your home are the common ones for the Jersey Shore except olive shells which are really nice. Thank you for bringing us along. Really appreciate it.
That's what makes them SO AMAZING! Sea biscuits are not common in NC either, but they must have been ages ago. It is absolutely mind-blowing 🤯 to think of the changes our earth has been through. 🌎😲 Thanks for sharing your info about Jersey shells! 🌊👣🐚
Aww, thank you! Yes, ma'am! 🙏 After grieving the loss of my sister & we both have been working so much in the last couple of months, it has been exhausting, especially mentally. It was definitely time for a getaway, even though it was a short 2 days; we were thankful for it! Thanks for coming along with us! 🤗🌊👣🐚
We love your videos we love the shells, and all the information you give, we learn a lot from your crabbing. We’re just beginning our crabbing down here in the west coast of Florida. But we love the most, however, was when Oliver said to you you talk all the time, and you said to Oliver that you just like to argue, even if I’m agreeing with you” we thought that was hysterical because it gets home right here with us too, exactly❤😂 thanks for the awesome videos!
This is such a fabulous video! I visited here a couple of months back(because of your first video), and honestly, it's every bit as amazing as all of the hype is! It's crazy though, I got to the beach on a Thursday morning at 6:30am and there were scores of people already on the beach with headlamps. Y'all found a sweet time when you had the beach to yourselves! Shell on, my friends!
Glad you enjoyed it! Holden Beach was/is definitely an awesome beach ... absolutely beautiful & a sheller's dream! You can see how much it has changed as far as the shelling already since then though, we didn't come across any shell piles as before but it was still great to treasure hunt & enjoy the beach! Happy Shelling! 🌊👣🐚
I love your videos and have been wondering about this beach and shells available here. Now I really need to plan a trip! We have always gone to Sanibel but obviously will have to wait awhile to return but it's great to explore other beaches. Really appreciate all your videos!
I think the line was someone marking where they have already walked whole metal detecting. I saw a couple doing that this past summer. Wife was scanning and husband was dragging a shovel behind him to mark where they were.
I think as were walking and shelling we would like to hear the story of how you all met and fell in love. I love all your videos thanks for taking us with you
That's a piece of a Lion's Paw! That would be a cool find that far north. Those clear, white long thin objects...are they bleached out spines from spiny urchins?
Hi I think those are tusk shells. The sea urchin spines are straighter I think. Loving all the interesting things you all are finding! Had an aunt that said that we all from Indiana talked too slow! She was from California and couldn't understand what we were saying! Dont know what she would have thought of Olivers long drawl hehe but I love it!
I was just wondering if you guys ever metal detect along these beaches? It looks like a great place to do so. I think it would be a wonderful mystery walk and a lot of fun!
If y'all are still there....go to the Holden beach pier area early morning as soon as the tides out...great for shells and teeth. Also the west end of Holden Beach can sometimes be really good.
Oliver I like to shell with someone but happy to go by myself too...Love to talk to other people and see their cool finds IF they will share. We all know how people are with their spots and treasures!
The East end of Holden at low tide is the best shelling spot. The ocean floor is flatter there and the waves are smaller, allowing more shells to remain unbroken. We have found many live sand dollars and whelks there, as well as many large, perfect shells.
That piece of shell y'all were trying to figure out at 8 min sure looks like a piece of horse conch, but not sure they're up there... Steph, I know you know you're lucky (blessed) to have a spouse that likes to shell! They were probably walking the beach when the tide was higher.😊 Yep! You found a piece of a lion's paw! And those little pointed spiny shells are tusk shells! I guess I like shelling by myself because I don't want to find something that might make someone feel bad that they didn't find it. But once in a while I walk with a friend. We try to stay out of each other's way. We're both pretty serious about it! Lol. I was blessed to find a big 12 inch horse conch yesterday!❤️ YFSS saying thank you and signing off.
Wow! Nice! I bet you were so excited! That is AWESOME! 🤩 Yep, that would make a shelling buddy a little salty! 🫤😁 Those little tusk shells are so unique!
That one fossilized piece could it be part of a turtle shell? But I haven't seen you pick up that much coral before I love it. Y'all found great treasures, a great video.
We think so, isn't that cool!? It was so thick. 🐢 Yeah, we found coral here much bigger/chunkier than what we find in SC & so much of it. Thanks for joining us for another beach walk! 🤗🌊👣🐚
Good Morning Steff and Oliver ! Love your videos. The shark teeth amaze me. Just think how those amazing creatures have been around for so long ! I hope you guys enjoyed shelling on a different beach but I kinda missed the barrier islands. Oliver I love the way you talk. I don't think you talk too slow at all lol ! Sorry Steff that you didn't find your Lions Paw. I too would love to know what those spikes are from. They look like the spines from a sea urchin but who am I to say. I thank you once again for your videos. I am land locked and truly appreciate your videos and photos on FB, I love the photos of the beautiful sunsets you post. They bring me so much joy. You guys stay safe and keep posting these wonderful videos.
It is amazing to think about how long ago they lived. It's crazy to imagine! 🤯 We did enjoy it, but it was cold. 🥶 The spikes are tusk shells - a wild looking little creature & their shells are really unique & have a lot of history! Thank you so much for the kind words. We appreciate the encouragement! 🤗
Yes! Thats exactly what they are, tusk shells! I couldn't remember their name for the life of me at the moment, but I knew our Saltaholics would know! 🤗🐚🌊👣
That thing you found at 20 min. into it is a sea urchin spine . We have so many kinds of sea urchins . I have some about 3 inches long from a pencil slate sea urchin that I made earrings from. If you want to have a laugh about slow talkers look up Bob and Ray slow talkers. Now that's a slow talker . LOL.
Soooo many sharks teeth! Are the white, long & skinny shells tusk shells? The fossilized sea biscuits are my absolute favourite finds of all your videos. So exciting to see a new video with them. 😃 We find sand dollars here on Prince Edward Island, Canada, but never sea biscuits, and definitely never fossilized sea biscuits.
Yes, they are tusk shells! Thanks for helping remind me of their name. We think the sea biscuit fossils are so 😎 cool! Just to imagine a time when they were alive. We have never found sea biscuits either so to find the fossils is 🤯😍!
Thanks so much for another great video. I'm interested in going to try to find those seabiscuits. DO you have any advice on places to stay, parking or best section of beach to find sea biscuits?
We have only visited this beach twice, both times for very short trips so we don't know, really. We found the rentals online & there were plenty to choose from depending on proximity, size & budget. Also, online search showed a few different public parking areas. The beach is pretty long, so there are plenty of areas to explore. We had heard from viewers around the pier is better so we explored that area so I don't really know about anywhere else. It was a lot more to be found last year when we visited but we still found plenty of good finds ... but we had to look & walk a lot more this visit than last year. Good luck & Happy Shelling!
@@SaltyReflections Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I think I'll try my luck in February. Happy beachcombing and thanks for taking those of us who are land-locked to the beach with you in these videos!
Is that a piece of a lions paw or a pen shell? I have always wanted a whole one of each. Can’t find those up here in Massachusetts. Thanks for taking us along. I’m so sad we will not be able to take a trip down this year due to my health. Thank God for your channel allowing me to almost smell the southern sea air 🙏🏻💜
Oh no, I'm so very sorry to hear that! We're glad to have you hang out with us since you can't travel yourself, though! It was a piece of a lions paw, but no luck finding a whole one this trip. We'll just have to keep treasure hunting! 😉
@@SaltyReflections thank you for your kind words. I will keep virtual shelling with you and hoping that you find a whole one. It’s amazing how different the shells are from here to there. You guys definitely win as a lightning whelk, knobby whelk and angel wings are my bucket list shells and they are next to impossible to find up this way. The closest I have gotten is a false angel wing. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be able to get on a boat and hit an island and I thank you so much for taking us with you.
@@SaltyReflections I agree 100%. The water calms me. Our closest beach is 1 1/2 from us so we are limited with my health and the distance but I get out there every chance I get to breathe it in and when I can’t now I have your videos 🙏🏻🐚
@@SaltyReflections I have a friend who lives in Beaufort, beautiful town with so much history. I didn't know about the shells or when I was there, I certainly would have tried to go shelling.
First off I'm so Happy that so many wonderful people love our little piece of paradise, here at Holden Beach NC!!!! Second the piece of shell at 8:33 in the video is a small piece of "FLORIDA HORSE CONCH". Thanks for sharing our small piece of paradise with the rest of the world in such a beautiful way. I am an avid sheller and have been my whole life, but due to health issues I am unable to get out on the beach in the winter, when the weather is so cold. I've really enjoyed watching your video's. I'm praying that the warm weather hurry's and comes back!!!! I can't wait for the HOT SUNNY days of spring and summer!!! Thanks again for your video's and because I am a local, If at anytime I can check on anything or answer any questions please feel free to contact me. If your interested let me know and we can figure out a way for you to get up with me.
Holden Beach is a beautiful place! We enjoyed our visit! Spring is here now, so we are wishing you lots of 🌞 beach days ahead! 😃 Thanks for joining us for the cold beach trip! 🥶🌊
Yehbudi! Congratulations, you're the first commenter for the lions paw piece! Send me your mailing address to saltyreflectionsbsc@gmail.com please! 🏆🐚🤗
That white piece of a shell was a portion of a horse conch…the thick chunky black piece that Oliver said was ‘the largest sand dollar in the world’ was part of a giant tortoise shell….but yawl probably knew that cuz you joke a lot🤪
In reply to Oliver’s question: Do you like to shell alone or go with someone? I love going with my husband Tony…He is my buddy and I can’t imagine going by myself❤
Yeah, we think it was turtle, too, possibly. Although that would be one heck of a sand dollar to see! 😁🤯 Glad you have a shelling partner, too! 🤗 Thanks for coming along for a cold beach adventure! 🌊🥶👣🐚
