Eric Bogle is an outstanding singer/songwriter who hails from Peebles in the Scottish Borders. He emigrated to Australia in 1969 and this song was written to mark the moment when he really felt Australia was his home. The images were garnered from various sources on the web and I do not own the copyright to any of them. Similarly, I do not have permission to use the music. A lovely song. I am due to play a ten song set of Aussie songs at our Anzac day get-together here in the Philippines and plan to add this song to the set list. I met Eric twice in Hong Kong when he visited for the Folk Festivals there. A lovely man.

thank you, Eric Bogle, I spent the best time of my life in Australia. I met lovely mates and beautiful people there, I won't miss them. Your song reminds me very often of all my friends there

wonderful song about Australia. The sentiments about welcoming the homeless and the hungry were never more apt.

Beautiful song! Although this song is about an Australian performer and an Australian resident, I imagine it could apply to anyone anywhere in the world.

as an Aussie, who has lived overseas for almost 20 years, this epitomises the country I left and makes me fear for her being used by wrong=thinking people, both foreign and domestic, this song embodies the best of Australian welcome

My elder son left the UK for a new life in Australia 10 years ago, aged 21. He had no job, didn't know a soul and had nowhere to live. That wonderful country has been so so good to him. He now has a great job, beautiful home and gorgeous wife. He spends most of his working life in the remotest outback of Western Australia and just loves it. He took Australian Citizenship in 2018 and he was so proud & honoured to do so. I visited Perth and the south of WA in October 2022 to see him marry his beautiful lady, and the welcome we received was wonderful. Australia is a very special place indeed. This song sums up what he feels about his new homeland.
