Well done for saving another Safrane, one is never enough! Love the period talking dash. I’m secretly hoping you’ll somehow obtain a phase one Renault 25 soon..
Quite a clean looking one for a safrane, I'm in the process of restoring mine, which also is a 2.5 20V, but with manual, but won't be for long, as planning on swapping a 2.3Turbo from volvo 850 T5 into it. Mine is also getting complete PH1 baccara interior swap, as ph1 interior, especially the higher trim variants is just miles ahead of the ph2 in terms of quality, Leather dash, door panels, B-pillar covers, smooth tan headliner, brown carpeting, seats and dash with tan accents. Fun fact. Ph1 interior is almost 100kg heavier than ph2 in comparable equipment level. PH1 also had power operated rear seats, which don't really add anything to the comfort other than ability to lift the front of the seat bottom a bit, and maybe lay downt he backrest a tiny bit more than it is in normal safrane, but its a cool quirk. If you're into period correct and cool tweaks, ph1s also had a nice 2 din head unit, which fits right in into ph2, but you have to also swap the radio display and the remote by the steering wheel. Body panels are mostly interchangable as well. One neat thing late model (year 2000) cars had was LED 3rd brakelight. There was also option for heated windshield and air adjustments in the seats (if you find the seats, they'd bolt right in to your car, as you already have electric seats. Only downside is, they will probably need disassembly, air lines replacement, checking and sealing of any leaks in the valves. I am very much jelous of the sunroof tho, that was a really rare option in eu market cars unfortunately.
Five-cylinder manual - SWOON! The swap sounds good. Would love to read/watch more about the process... Thanks for the info and input. Knowledge from people like you makes this channel worthwhile (for me, anyway). I knew about the heated windscreen as I struggled to find an OEM screen for my other Safrane. Desperately wanted to find another solar screen, but they've all gone. Settled for a pattern screen, as something is better than nothing. Your jealous of my sunroof, I'm jealous of your forthcoming Baccara makeover!
It is a genuine Questor - they have the electric and heated seats. Very rare. The Questor X had the seats and the satnav. Even rarer to have a genuine one of those!
First thing I spotted was the wheels and I thought, Laguna 2 facelift Extreme trim. As you know I've reviewed a 2.5 exec on the standard alloys and they really do ride superbly. The 5 pot is very hushed with a slight growl when poked. I also thought the Questor models all had a sat nav. I'm not sure if the exec cane with electric seats though so perhaps it is a questor or had them fitted as an optional upgrade. 🤔 My Laguna 2 Privilege had the sunblinds built into the parcel shelf and rear doors which looked really neat.
@@Petrolblog Nah, Keely Hawes was the star of a little remembered series called Tête à Tat, which saw her and her co-star, Philippe Chasseur chucking a Renault Safrane V6 Quadra around the Toulouse and Pyrenees area in a high stakes drama centred around the illicit goat trade. Worth a watch*
Why isn't this beauty shown on Twitter? I had to view it on RU-vid instead!!! Ps. Glad to see it in flesh, I never knew Safrane had a Questor trim level. Never heard of it, to be precise!
I'm not as active on Twitter as I used to be, but I'll be using my blog a lot more. Watch this space.

@@Petrolblog You know what, I simply watched this video yesterday without any sound (was too lazy to stad up and find a pair of headphones) so I'll just watch it again on work with my headphones on 😉 Lovely Safrane, I'm so grumpy that there's only FOUR of them on sale in Serbia and none is a nice piece with some decent equipment. Basically, the offer is very scarce...
I know it well. It's wearing a 'Too Good to Scrap' sticker with pride. I hope it survives, but the cost of transporting it from Scotland makes it a non-starter for me.
Hi Mick, just read your reply to petrolblog & as I live in Glasgow, I wondered if you can guide me how to contact the seller of the "Lovejoy" Safrane ? Thanks.....
The air-attack warning man is quite a character isn't he? When you said the calipers were leaking, I hope the fluid didn't damage the inner-wheel paint surface. Do these five-pot Safranes use four-stud or five-stud alloys, since they are hidden by the centre caps? I remember when some of the earlier RXE versions had the diamond-cut flat-shape rims that were 14-inch and four-stud, that were also optional on the first Laguna. They looked very special when new. The surface under the clear coat corroded quite quickly though.
I'm curious, how does yours shift into lockup? Mine is a bit clunky, has been since I bought it. All other shifts are butter smooth. Good job on buying the 5-pot, it's super smooth, torquey and the economy is suprisingly good, not to mention the rock solid reliability of the engine. Love the little sunshade in the back, when I have passengers in the rear, they are always surprised by that feature and wish other cars had it. Too bad about the heated screen, once you try it it's hard to go back. Wish I had the heated seats though.
@@Petrolblog I just reckon that he would sound even more imposing and dramatic in Portuguese. Add a greater sense of drama. Just guessing which world languages Renault include under "languages". Great video.
If you want rid of your old front lights i will happily buy them off you. I need a pair of front indicator units but will happily buy the full headlight units.
