Dr. Doeleman is an American astrophysicist, whose research focuses on studying super massive black holes with sufficient angular resolution to directly observe and resolve structures just outside a black hole's event horizon, where gravity is so strong that not even photons can escape. He led the international team of researchers that produced the first directly observed image of the shadow inside the photon radius of the black hole at the center of M87, the supergiant elliptical galaxy in the core region of the Virgo galaxy cluster. Dr. Doeleman now directs the international Event Horizon Telescope project, whose goal is to make movies of the structures around black hole event horizons. He and his team received the 2020 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and he received this year's Henry Draper medal.

✍I remember when this project was only theory.. I also remember that Mr Shepherd was an hard believer of this project.. for very good reason I think ! This man is a symbol of perseverance, And this very original project, proved that Scientists from all around the world, can work together on this planet ! Congratulation you have your name in the book of human history. 19:50 Thanks a lot for mentioning the work of jean-Pierre Luminet in 1979 🤘😎👍🍻 Bravo ! -From an ordinary citizen

Back when I heard of it, the scope of the project just seemed tooooo damn technically challenging but, the physics all added up and there was every reason to believe in those results. Before long, those years melted away and then boom ...heres your m87 image! Which I promptly ordered a nice big print to claim place of pride in my room. Nice to see Shep and undoubtedly many other equally inspired curious minds flying m87's flag! Now the ball is rolling and we have real momentum, I'm as equally excited over the future developments of this project as I was over the release of the m87 image. EHT team, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and offer you my absolute encouragement in your endeavour to take this observational tool all the way!

The finest example of probing into a reality of the universe where we reside. And a snapshot of God, herself. Gratitude for the patience of the patrons who have supported this work for decades and the multi multi national efforts of scientists. What an example of the quest of humans to seek reality. This work eclipses the manned space travel , ego driven, work that has wasted so many resources. I applaud this work with all of my being.

What astrophysics books in Spanish do you recommend? As far as possible, they are deep and give me a great glimpse of what astrophysics is. Although I have not even finished my secondary studies, I was lucky enough to read aliens by Avi loeb and I would like to know, learn and discover more about the subject.

Are you looking for textbooks or popular-science books like Avi Loeb's 'Extraterrestrial'?

@@tpuzia I do not know the difference between what you mention, I want to know and delve into astrophysics, discover the superficial but also delve into and try to understand the deepest part of the subject and how the cosmos and the universe work.

There are many books searchable on amazon for example. Just type astronomy in the search bar and you will be flooded with information. Many of those, mostly popular science books will have Spanish translation available.
