From the “You Learn Something New Every Day” file. That trick with the toothpick for applying superglue was a new one for me. Great idea.
@TheInnerNerd
@TheInnerNerd 3 года назад
Yes this was a new one on me at the time of filming. For even more precise application you can also use a piece of solder wire and dip that into the superglue for tiny amounts. If you see my later videos I do that there. Thanks for watching :)
@AFV85

I make a small tear drop loop in my solder wire for a more precise application or a split in the tip of the cocktail stick seems to work 0pretty well

Hello mr.nerd!i just build my tamiya marder1a2. An i am totally satisfied with it. There was no flesh or ejector pinmarks.and the fit was almost perfekt.i highly recommend this great kit to other modellers building tank modells.and after i finished that bad boy he goes directly on the shelf.with sticky greetings and best regards. One of the reasons I almost always buy Tamiya tank kits are the one-piece tracks. They take a bit of work to make them sag between the return rollers but they eliminate hours of tedious work that can be devoted to painting and weathering. I’ve even bought spare one-piece tracks for Dragon kits that Tamiya doesn’t produce. I know you spray-paint boys aren’t going to like this, (and I do think spray paint is excellent for aircraft), but after spraying on the primer, I use large tweezers and some pieces of ladies make-up sponge to daub on the paint. The thicker paint gives the model “weight”…and tanks are heavy beasts. I personally think spray paint leaves the model looking “ light” as if the tank is made out of tin.

@@TheInnerNerd That is true, however, I noticed that your channel name would be a problem for some. What do you think? :) Edit: Maybe changing the profile photo for any model related image thing would be a good idea!
@TheInnerNerd
@TheInnerNerd 3 года назад
Yes I can see that too since it doesn’t mention anything to do with a plastic model anywhere... To be honest when I started the channel I never thought it would get this big, so for me the name dint have to be limited to just modelling. But here we are with almost 45k subscribers and I’m a little stuck 😂 A total rebrand would be social media suicide I think as the branding that I have now is the one in which the majority of my followers recognise (it was different to this before I hit about 5,000 subs) so not sure if people would understand it’s still me. I will look into changing the name to The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling though so it’s a more descriptive. A mouthful yes but as text would make more sense. The logo is a difficult one. I chose this one since that is actually my silhouette inside the rings - therefore by definition, The Inner. Also the colours are the RAF roundel. I am British and make mainly aircraft models so relating this back to my home countries’ airforce ties in the logo nicely. Simple aircraft illustrations have been done by almost all the other channels so I feel that would be just falling into line with the norm and not really stand out. Plus I’d have to limit myself to my favourite aircraft, which is impossible because I don’t just have one 😂. One of the concept design I made was of several but on such a small screen like a phone, you couldn’t see the details and the logo looked incredibly messy. Rebranding is tough and something you don’t get a second chance at. But I understand that it could help non-subscribers understand what the channel is. It’s tricky. *If anyone reading this has any suggestions for a logo I’d be happy to hear, who knows, you might even inspire the next one!* 🙂😎
@salazartankworkshop97
@salazartankworkshop97 3 года назад
@@TheInnerNerd the logo is a fantastic idea! Do not change it, the name as with others it doesn't neccesarily have to say something about scale modelling just see Martin Kovac's channel called "Night Shift" it doesn't sound like something about modelism. Probably you need to revise your youtube settings to see how youtube is showing your channel, for example as an arts & crafts or else, this is very important and last join other channels there are a lot of good modellers that do group or tema projects, reviews, ect. and combine your channel with FB and Instagram as many modellers can find through these forums too. All in all your channel is great! Keep it going!

I’m a bit older than you I think. I’m retired with illness and hoping modelling will fill some time for me. My dad was in a Sherman in Africa and Italy. He said that when small arms rounds hit the outside it would send a bit of paint off the inside which would sting if it hit bare skin.

Excellent work. The whitewash is very well done. It’s easy to overdo that effect. If you want another armor mode to consider building I would recommend the Ryefield Models T-34/122. It’s a very unusual vehicle. The kit itself is of the best quality. It has the fit and simplicity of a Tamiya kit and the detail of a Takom. The photoetch is a tad tricky, however.

The white was mainly applied with a mop. It ranged from special paint to house paint and some depots used plaster and added in wallpaper glue. It wasn't a sprayed on paint. Most aircraft didn't even get paint in theatre because supplies were very hard to get 7,000 miles from home. Thank you for the video. The plaster mud was very informative. The oil drags, you may want to try a soft makeup brush. It allows more feathered looks and blends the center in the heavier areas better. Ammo is removed from the crates and stored in cans because the crates are flammable. All flammable goods are usually removed from the tank because fire kills in a big metal box full of explosives. They even go as far as wearing special fire resistant uniforms and eat from rations that are flame resistant from the outside packaging. I got the lecture from an m1 abrams commander when I sat a crate of 50 cal ammo on his tank. He said it has been that way since ww2 because they watched British and French tankers burn in their tanks in ww1. Since then flammable objects are a huge deal. Please don't think of this as criticism, I just want people to think more about what they are doing. A stryker or m-atv would be awesome.

I gotta say, having watched a few of your videos now. To me, what sets your builds apart is your combination of camera shots, narration, and music. True some of the builds seem tedious but I enjoy watching them anyway because of the aforementioned elements. Well done and thanks again. 12 minutes of build, 31 minutes of weathering 👍 Seems like if you took an actual Sherman tank and shrunk it down, it would look less authentic than the nerd version.

Thank you. A lot of time and thought goes into the capturing and storyboarding of the builds to bring something new to each video. Weathering is my favourite part of any build so I like to take a lot of time to get this accurate. Thanks for watching :)

Hi everyone. I hope you enjoyed the video. As always thank you so much for watching. I have now started my Patreon page at www.Patreon.com/TheInnerNerd where you can catch some in-detail videos featuring some of the most voted for topics and techniques! Spaces are filling up fast so go and join the others using the link! Even though this seems to be the most complicated kit ever created, it’s actually very good and worth the money. The tracks, as I’m sure you saw, were the biggest downside to this kit. However there are alternatives like the Masterclub (no paid product placement. I’m not sponsored.. by anyone) which will make life a little easier, although more expensive of course… If you liked the video and want to see more military vehicles, let me know what you’d like to see in the comments and I can take a look at doing those at some point in my life. References to the M4A3 are linked in the description Thank you so much for watching! Aircraft will be back next!!!
