Awesome! I was in HS in the early 60's and surf music was our thing, even in the midwest of Michigan. Love the guitar and your 60's outfit. You nailed it. Keep the music alive!
A couple of years ago, I was shopping at a Guitar Center and spotted a Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster with a 24" scale and bought them both. I haven't seen any ads or mention about them on RU-vid or in the guitar mags. I love playing them along with my Jaguar. Yes, stubby fingers are a bummer!
Nice guitar, Shermy. I'm a personal friend of Creston Lea, owner and builder of the guitar. He's in Burlington VT. I played his wedding. He's a great builder and also plays surf, as well as many other kinds of music and, further, is also a fan of the band I'm in, The Starline Rhythm Boys. He has really developed his business and is now known world wide. BTW, I dig the Surfrajettes - great playing; great 60's look. I know you young gals are really in to it - just wonderful that you're carrying on the tradition. People say, "they're from Canada" - no surf there (well that ain't really true). So what? The Astronauts, a great 60's surf band from Boulder CO (now THAT'S landlocked!) had a good minor hit with Baja, a Lee Hazelwood composition, in '63. So stay on it, Shermy - you gals are delivering the surf goods in your own way/style. And remember, Surf basically celebrates 60 yrs (!) in 2021.
It’s amazing looking and sounds great! I never heard of the make before until you posted the guitar on insta - Creston do some beautiful guitars. I have a similar problem and would like something smaller. I’m quite a ‘slender’ built guy - I have two JM’s and they look HUGE on me. Would like something smaller and lighter (we rehearse for 4 hours and my back starts to hate me!) so thanks for the demo, definitely one to consider!
How are these girls not big stars? Great Musicians,Attractive, Great Retro Music. Girls need to do some soundtracks. Maybe to a Tarantino Movie? Or some TV.
@@davidleidy9288 David, I am afraid we are living at a time where these women would have to trade their art for fame. I love them as they are, if the traditional track to fame in popular music were to be followed, they would be over produced copy of Taylor Swift ect. Hope I am wrong, if they have a way to break through that would be a great thing for popular music. Wish them all the best and look forward to new music from them.
@@davidleidy9288 Just a matter of time. Their live playing has few peers and they seem to be the gonna do it our way because that got us this far types.
sounds alot different, less pop in those foil pickups, but that helps when you hit those full chords, they sound fuller. very cool. now you need them to make you one with your name on it..
@@rickgehring7507 not saying its better or worse, just that those foil pickups have a specific sound. just because you like or dont like something doesnt make it THE PERFECT TONE, the tone she picks is her tone, you dont have to play it.
@@StymyParsley - people like Chris and Artie must think all the hospital workers (like your sister) around the World are just faking it for the last year because they have nothing better to do with their time. Same with the people who died from Covid (like my 58 year old neighbor who also thought Covid was a hoax).
Shermy that guitar is really you! You can never have enough guitars. Lol I appreciate you girls keeping this music and sound alive. I grew up listening to my dad play music from groups like the Ventures and the Animals. Your sound really takes me back! Thank you for that. Stay safe and keep the videos coming.
Sounds killer, looks good too. Never seen a bridge like that either. Shermy, would be interested to know what amp/pedals you were playing thru cuz that was a great sound.
Okay, Mastery Bridge. Apparently a must have for the pros. Jessica Dobson talked about having a string slip off her Jag in an audition for Beck which was solved by the Mastery. I'm a Boomer who doesn't want to hate on my own gender, but I like the tones the women are getting, though there is Johnny Marr and a few others (including Josh Scott's pedal demo jams.). I crave something different from the zillion-notes-a-second all the time. I love EVH but the Shermys and the Jessicas are playing licks like the ones that drew me towards guitar in like, oh no, 1962. Cuz I was there.
Really cool guitar with a great sound. Your Jaguar has a particular “scream” that I haven’t heard duplicated, so don’t let it get too dusty. It’s a special guitar. But, I like this one too.
Another great sign that women are now the torch carriers for Rock n Roll. The Surfrajettes are one of many bands to keep the beat flowing. Awesome guitar, Shermy!
Maybe what you say is true, but the Surfrajettes are really in a subset or corner of rock n roll, yes? The main patient is still on life support as I see it.
@@peaceonearth8693 Yet music shops and instrument manufacturers seem to have a huge range of guitar types, brands and accessories, with an incredible variety of boutique pedals and amps alone. Considering there's nothing more rock and roll as far as instruments go than guitars, an instrument that dominates most music shops, I'd suggest the patient is much healthier than the doomsayers predict.
@@deaddoll1361 Good point. The difficulty, I suggest, is that the industry finds it easier to promote an individual: Taylor, Madonna, Miley, Elvis as opposed to a group and that they think the audience, especially women are obsessed with dancing which leads to MOR and hip-hop. Nonetheless I believe the Surfrajettes may have a strong wider appeal.
We had that lamp at home when I was a kid. I remember my mom was sitting where you are on the sofa, I was sitting on the arm beside her, so we could both read something in her lap. I absent mindedly reached behind me, my finger went into one of the lamp sockets, which didn't have a bulb in it for some reason. That's how I learned what 110 volts feels like. Great lamp though.
I love this. The lovely lady comes on to tell us all about the tools of her trade and we reply about lamps....or raccoons. I hope they read through our stuff and laugh out loud.
What's the little thing you play at the end? it's great! ...You ladies are seriously the future of surf music, everything you do sounds so fresh and innovative, and the songs you cover are so interesting. You should really write some original stuff in the same tempo as some of the songs you cover, I love your version of "In A Gadda Da Vida" but you should do some of your own "groovy, sexy, slow jams" like that... I think it's that willingness to "mix it up and have fun", plus adding in melodies is what makes you all special. So many modern surf groups are so tied to the past, they put themselves if a box creatively by "only doing what was done in the 60's" but most end up feeling kind of stiff, but Your track "Undercover Secretary" is one of the best surf songs since the original groups from the 60's, and it feels so effortless, I don't know how you do it, but keep doing it
Sounds amazing. Great action. Love that tone!!! The color is very groovy. I sure hope you girls are okay. There seems to be less and less of you 4 in videos as time rolls on. How can we help you stay a band? I really want to see you the next time you play San Diego. Great show.
You have a good eye. That guitar does fit you and your show perfectly. Too many bands these days show up for gigs looking like they just finished mowing their lawns. I appreciate the effort that goes into changing into stage clothes and back to work clothes for tear down. Been there. You do a great job with your music and presentation.
My son lived in Toronto for a year and told me the locals said "oo" instead of "ow". Once you hear it, it's quite noticeable, and I think unique to Canada.
@K H Yes, thinking aboot it, there are bound to be other places with a similar accent and Minnesota borders Ontario, so it's not surprising if they sound the same.
Damn right Jaguars are heavy. Don't blame you for making the switch. Comfort is very important when playing. Great looking & sounding guitar there. Also your tremolo technique is faultless!
Wow nice guitar, love the sound and of course your playing. Heard your pronunciation of the word "about" and remembered you are Canadian. Lol. Hope to see the band live someday soon. Take care
Since it is a gear rundown I’m curious to know the rest of your signal chain? What amp? Pedals? It’s a cool unique guitar for a unique cool player in a unique cool band!
I like the guitar. Did you do anything to lower the action. Love to see next video all the pedals, settings & amps you use that would be an interesting video. Like to see both you and Nicole and do you use the same pedals and settings. That would be cool to see in the next video.
Will you be recording with this Crestin electric, or just using in your live shows. Very nice guitar. He did good work on it. How bout making a video with you playing a couple songs solo on the crestin guitar,? Hopefully y'all will release a new album soon. At least an hour long album. Looking forward to it.
Shermy, that guitar looks like a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to hearing how it inspires your playing. I really like the new space you two have set up there, nice work!
Nice guitar. I like 24 scale guitars as well. I have a Johnny Marr Jaguar that sounds and plays better than any Jaguar I have seen. I bought a Mustang Vintera a while back that I really like as well. You play as good as you look.
It sounds superb! I must add, it is a unique take on the offset shape. Slight alterations on the shape and other nuances really change the feel of an instrument on a personal level. As always, I enjoy your playing and I’m looking forward to what you create with it😀.
That really is a beautiful guitar! I love how the color is not too flashy, but there still is that sparkle finish and the brown rosewood fingerboard fits in right there! Maple wouldn't look so nice with this. All this combined with the matching headstock!! You need a good name for it!!
The tailpiece section is just like one on a Fender Jazzmaster or Jaguar and those are GREAT for having a whammy bar that won't throw you out of tune. An excellent choice for anyone playing whammy bar heavy music like surf. Rock on.
I'm not very good on guitar, but i literally found a guitar in an alleyway in Toronto when I was about 18. It had a wammy bar like yours and it had a good "Jang" which you seem to have totally mastered. I LOVE your sound and I'm your biggest fan. I usually put on your Britney Spears Toxic Surf cover first thing in the morning and it seems to give me a jive and a cool vibe for the day. Sorry for messaging before how I wanted to take you guys on Tour but I just find your Act so positive and so uplifting! I would really give anything to see The Surfrajettes live! You guys are all business and complete professionals!
A good match for your style, but their prices are WAY too high for what you get. The pickups sound great and they’re definitely the best part of that guitar.
@@chrisst8922 I'd thought for sure that they used a tube driven spring reverb tank. But I guess the quality of the solid state option is beyond that now. Thanks for the reply... :)
