What a true song from the heart of a women who wants a man who can HOLD SPACE for her & LOVE when she is real and vulnerable. Thank you, Cheryl Crow for being AUTHENTIC!
Agree. Her voice has so much more volume (not 'loudness') in this live rendition. I stopped two other studio recordings before I came across this one. Copy states "best!" and I believe their claim is correct👍
This song means so much to me. I got out of an abusive relationship and now i met someone utterly wonderful. There will be days when certain things trigger bad memories and I am always afraid that he won't be able to handle it when I get into that dark place.
It would be the lucky man that could sit and listen to her play this on the front porch with no microphones or accompaniment...just that voice and her guitar.
That slide accompanying her ( Jaguar or Jazzmaster guitar, can’t tell?) is fabulous. Sheryl is one of my favorite singer- songwriters and a very good musician in her own right…gifted.
She graduated from the University of Missouri. When she comes to Columbia she always goes to a billiard parlor/bar and buys drinks for the house. She's such a class act that she tells the bartender not to make the announcement until she's left. She's a Missouri girl. You can hear it in her voice.
Sheryl is truly a sweet, lovely, beautiful lady with incredible talent and a wonderful heart and an excellent voice! She's nearly a perfect example of what a woman should be. Bless this earth angel.
Not a huge Sheryl Crow fan, but I love this one. Her voice is straight from the heavens. The thought of her with Lance Armstrong makes me throw up in the back of my mouth a bit.
The bass guitar is plugged in. Looks like a second guitar, electric, is there too. And there’s a whole orchestra playing along as well, so I don’t know if this is all that simple, or acoustic… ha.
Just an excellent song, from the heart (and not a studio engineer/producer). So much posturing by "entertainers" now that anything truly emotional is sadly all too rare. Wonderfully done Sheryl.
Magical performance! The icing would be the slide guitar which I think is Peter Stroud. Looks like a Duesenberg string bender providing that pedal steel sound, played magnificently 👏
I looked this up specifically to see if she actually played that lead acoustic guitar part...I've been playing for 10 years, and I gave up on it after trying for a few days. She has to be the most talented guitar player of any mainstream female artist for sure.
Weirdly she didn’t play any guitar on the entire first album. Which came as a shock to me. I’ve been a (more casual) fan since this album was new, and I just assumed she played a ton of the guitar parts on the first album like she did on the follow-up albums. I guess I had never looked at the first album’s liner notes all that closely? Anyway, I still don’t understand why she didn’t play (or she and her producer didn’t use) any guitar parts herself on TNMC. If anybody knows, I’d love to find out.
Simply wonderful Always a plaintive, truthful and yearning song; perfect version Voice a little cracked, makes it more powerful And what an ending One of her best songs and sounds as fresh and original now as it did when it first came out Sheryl nails it every time
