Wanda Taylor discusses the idea of taboo talking: words and topics that are avoided in everyday language. She discusses how we talk about topics that are easy and safe. She uses the analogy of duct tape on a mouth when talking about taboo topics and states that not talking about taboo topics such as sexual violence and sex work prevents society from understanding these subjects. The idea of her talk is to start discussing taboo topics so that there can be more understanding of these subjects and resulting social change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
