I’ve been using the 4000 for a couple of weeks, carp feeder method fishing and with braid feeder on the Gloucester canal. Extremely impressed so far, it has a brilliant clutch. I plan to do an independent review on my RU-vid channel after further testing.
so I bought this reel for spinfishing (light-medium pike fishing) without knowing that it is branded as a feeder?? Like whats the difference to a "normal" spinning reel? I like it a lot so far for spinfishing - seems like the smaller brother of the Excsence...
What are they supposed to be retailing at roughly ?. If we're lucky enough to afford 1 . Usually with the price of 1 Shimano we can get 2 other reels that can be good.
I have the 5000, use is it with the 13ft aero X5 rod. I love waggler fishing and this set up is brilliant. Silvers, F1,s or double figure carp it works really well. Effortless casting and smooth retrieval with or without fish on.
I got one today and an Aero BB as well tbh I'm quite underwhelmed really they look plasticy even if there not. It was chucked in the box it came in no plastic bags for protection the handle was loose hitting against the spool and body. The BB ones line lay for me is not much better than a £30er it's all to the back with no spare shims and even if you take one out it flies the other way. Daiwa are also guilty of not supplying adequate washers you now get 3 thick ones thats it.
No Anti-reverse its the reason I stopped buying Shimano reels, has common sense finally prevailed?!. I will drop in on my local tackle dealer to see what this reel is like. As for line reducers I have found them very useful.
Looks smart Nick, I use Daiwa TDR 3012 and 4012 QD. Alloy body which everyone maintains is better than composite body's?as there's no flex in the body under load. So many conflicts of opinion with reel body materials
imho the 2013 Aero 4000MAFA leaves this for dead (and also comes with line reducers for all of the spools, not just for one). Sorry, used one, sent it back, not impressed but that said, reasonable value for money.
