Its shimano or nothing for me. Ive been through lews, 13 fishing, diawas, and abu garcias and none of them compare to shimano. It is the standard that all other casting reels are graded on and compared to.
I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.
Three things: 1. I hope Matt has a speedy recovery & enjoys his "used" DC reel. 2. I get skeptical every time I hear "almost no backlashing." 3. Fans, (some of you) please stop arguing about go fund me pages. It's human nature for good people to offer help. There is no shame in that. However, it is shameful to be a douche to people who are concerned about a survivor & the well being of his family. Let's get back to Bassin'...'nuff said...
Just played with the Curado DC at my local tackle shop; wow, a true game changer. I have mostly Garcia Revo MGX but was impressed with the DC. If I end up homeless its because the wife threw me out of the house for replacing all of my Revos.
Hope Matt and his dad are good. Good video Tim. Been binge watching all your stuff to do my little part to help and to learn some new technics. Really enjoy the Smallie clear water vids!
The face you made at 5:07 when reacting to the sound was the same face my girlfriend made when she heard the price lol. Good thing she likes fishing😂 great video Tim.
Glad I saw this episode. I bought the curado dc and it just became my favorite reel. This thing is fantastic. You can’t make it backlash. I’m replacing all my casting reels with the curado dc.
If I am not mistaken you did not explain one of the most important features of the DC reel: how to adjust the tension knob, which is different from a traditional baitcaster and is key to avoid backlashes and also when properly set helps get the most out of the reel.
I appreciate the effort you and Matt put into telling us about all the different tackle! There is just so much to choose from now days. If nothing else it gives us a feel for what we we are looking for. I spent a lifetime fishing the Gulf of Mexico so I am now having to re-learn bass fishing and OH has it ever changed in the selection of tackle available! As an old fart I had to learn the whole transition from mono to fluoro and braid fishing saltwater now I prefer the finesse side of freshwater fishing and doing things the bass don't see 100s of times a day. To each their own as I just like to fish for enjoyment and if I happen to catch a big one I let it go. This new Shimano is an amazing reel for the price! I'm glad they brought the digital reels back to the American market.
Old Lady Angler was watching an w2f video the other day and they linked me to your Underwater Jackhammer Chatterbait video. Great stuff OLA much appreciated :-)
Alway bring the chest mount and the big camera tim!was excited to see that dc peel one in.maby do a short clip vid of the dc catching a few? Idk.also not gonna lie i am soo grateful matt and his dad are ok best wishes to them making a steady recovery. I am endlessly grateful for all you guys do for us,i am a better fisherman today because of you two and life would not be the same without you.thank you and know that im expecting some oregon footage in the future boys! One of the most underrated bass fishing scenes in this great country.soo come on out and let us pacific northwestern folk put you on some toads!
As usual Tim, you've done The Best video I've seen regarding the new Shimano 150DC and I've been a Shimano user for 50 years... Best Wishes for Matt and his family, and I'm happy to contribute to help recover. 🙏😇🙏💯
Awesome video Tim! It’s insane what the fishing industry is coming out with. And ya, the Chronarch MGL is insane ... one of my favorite reels for sure.
Not only am i super excited to have the micro module gearing and an 8.5 speed, but i love the placement of the dial. The only time i ever get a backlash with my scorpion is if the dial gets knocked down to 1 and I'm throwing something heavy and don't realize it. And my curado ks are my strongest and smoothest reels I've used but my only 2 dislikes are 1. The outside dial is a nightmare to turn, 2. compared to the scorpion the braking system just feels ancient to me. Both problems are completely eliminated. I am so excited for this reel lol
Finally....I been asking if dc reels are worth the money to everyone and nobody has gotten back to me. My problem is we fish 3 people on a z18 nitro so I am stuck sharing the deck with my nephew and can't sidearm my baitcaster. I backlash it more now since I had to change up my cast. I will be keeping an eye out for these when they come out. Thanks for the great content as always. Tight lines from KY.
I'm a Calcutta man myself, but It's crazy to think how far baitcasters have come just in the last 30 years. I Used to just have one real that did everything. Now they make a real for everything. 30 years ago my top of the line reel was $50. Heck, costs that much to put line on them these days. I am by no means old but to look at what I used to fish with compared to what I have now...WOW. lighter+stronger=more$$$ (Matt your still in our prayers brother)
Yeah but can you cast a jig with 12 pound floro 60 yards with no thumbing on a regular reel i think not btw it is good with finesse lures i bought a few and its amazing you can cast a 3/32 ounce neko rig 50 yards with 12 pound floro
Everyone should check out the other Shimano DC reels. Im not sure on this Curado DC model, however the other DC reels have an internal setting for Braid or Fluro and external dail from 1-5: with Auto dial as the 6th setting. Curious to see if this Curado has the same.
ALEXANDER ATACK Yep I noticed that after your reply. I meant Metanium the first time. Of course everyone knows that there are several model versions of both the Curado and Metanium.
Just bought one from my local tackle shop.... holy holy shit man wicked smooth & super super easy to cast light baits.! Going out on sunday to bass fish. It’s just as smooth as my cronarch mgl !
What would be your #1 application for this reel? What rod would you pair it with to use for those application? Didn't really "need" a new setup, but I love my Shimanos and Diawas, and at that price point its a no-brainer for me. Now just need to figure out what I will use it for and what rod to pair with it. Thanks guys for all the great info over the years
I now am a Right hand person but I fish casting with my left hand and reel with the right. It works for me I can use ether hand for most things this reel would really be nice to have but man 250 is a lot to pay for a fishing reel, I know if you have the extra cash go for it. I like shimano spinning reels I haven't used a casting reel from them yet! If they sent me one I would use it alright!
Tim is underestimating the Casting distance *by ALOT* . He said something like 35 yards. Now I am assuming the line was straight and no bow because of side winds or something like that and because he thumbed the spool at the end which usaly straightens the line: I counted the reel rotations and with braid it's been around 72 turns. 72turns*0.86(Yards/turn)≈62yards!!!😳
What a tank for a new reel at 7.8 oz. I thought they were state of the art? Did they forget and make it out of Hagane cast iron. I like it except the weight.
I was recommended a 150HG DC model but was told GLS what does GLS mean? It would be for a 4" plastic paddle tail with a 3/16 jig head as a common bait!
I was just about to buy the Curado 71XG now you have me second guessing. Love the sound of the dc. The question is is how long before they come in? Glad to hear Matt is ok. Great video Tim
So what's the reason you cast right-hand and wind the reel with the right hand as well? Does the reel not come in left hand wind? Kind of strange to flip your rod from one hand to the other. Like eating with knife and fork and keep switching when you eat...
You know how you tube reads the videos with captions as your scrolling through your recommended now? As I came across your yours it reads Welcome back to Taxable bassing! Lmao RU-vid still working the ole kinks out.
Training with my first baitcaster? Now that I got my first baitcaster ever, the Curado DC, what's the best line and lure to use for the sole purpose of learning. I am happy to just sit at the dock for a few 1000 casts, not trying to fish, but just Practice, Practice, Practice. What line and lure should I practice with?
Tim, do you think the 150 DC is just as durable as the 200 K? I try and keep it simple and only keep two rods/two reels in my arsenal. Thanks to an earlier video I pulled the trigger on two Curado K's and couldn't be happier! They're definitely absolute workhorses and I've that found as long as I take care of them (as with anything) they always perform. But in terms of wear and tear, water exposure, and the occasional impact do you think that the 150 DC would ever “crap out” as compared to the 200 K?
Some day people are not going to know the struggle of backlashing. Given its a 150 size reel and the $250 I'm guessing the technology is costly for them to put on other size reels at scale. Seems almost like its meant for finesse since thats when people run into most issues.
Why they left what was so good in the Curado series I’ll never know. Heard a lot of bad. I looked to purchase a DC 200 and ended up getting a Lew’s. I was so disappointed. I loved my 90’s Curado’s. Go back to those and I’ll be back. 😏😔
Where would you rate the DC compared to other mid range reels. Note: For me the DC would bd a HIGH end purchase. Also, what "all around" mid range reel would you recommend for this reel? See you on Clear Lake (I'm @ Riviera West).
