*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
Just purchased it. This is the first expensive bait caster I’ve actually invested into. I always use cheap stuff because I barely used them as I’m inexperienced with them. After watching your video I figured it’s about time I invest into one and try it out.
Great video, have a Curado 151 DC HG and as a Swede it hurts to say SHIMANO whoops ABU any time. Also have a Nasci 4000 & Sahara 2500 and wouldn’t change for any brand. Keep em comming, thx!
Love mine.....spooled with 10Lb Nanofil.....I cast it on setting 1 throwing 5 gram lures....Chuck it as hard as I can with no issues....additionally i don't believe youv'e set your brakes correctly. I was told that when clicking the cast bar, the lure shouldn't move down.......It works for me
when they made the claim saying it won't backlash against a wall, your supposed to set the tension knob so the line does not move AT ALL when you drop the line. you should have it like that on every setting so the dc can do what is supposed to do.
I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.
Great video brother, thank you! Just purchased this reel, as a beginner with baitcasters. Am quickly finding out i made a good choice, with going bigger on the reel to help with patience & frustrations of being new to the style. Definitely liked, subscribe & hit the all bell. Thank you again. 🎣 🎣
I have a Metanium DC and it is a monster when it comes to casting; and I would recommend the scorpion dc over the curado dc. This is due to the scorpion having the same brakes as the metanium, which is more high end then the curado dc.
Set mine up with 20lb Fluor, BIG mistake blew up the reel on all settings. Switched down to 14lb and it operates a lot better. Still doesn’t work with your thumb completely off. I may have a bad reel but with a 1/4 plastic it’s problematic. Definitely better with heavier baits. Over all I was disappointed for the price point. Definitely works if you’re thumbing it.
People complain about how heavy the DC’s are, but I like heavier reels because I don’t get fatigued very much but please tell me someone out there agrees with me
Heavier reels I like because I feel the quality put into it. I am not a fan of extreme light reels where all the quality that goes into durability is sacrafice. I beat up my reels I rough it up. I am not a bait caster collector iam a fisherman.
Well its a problem for people like me who wade fish inshore. I throw a good 300 casts in just a few hours and when you are catching redfish and trout you get pretty tierd in you hand and wrist so its nice to have a lighter setup
Youre still going to backlash i have the reel and played with it for a while nonstop. On the cast it pretty much helps you thumb is all. but its not backlash proof. If you dont feel like picking out backlashes of birdsnest just set brakes to max and tnsion nob to the point where the lure doesnt fall. I set it up that way for my neice because shes learning how to use a baitcaater.
Chai tern if you teaching your Neice then you should let her use a dc. If you wanna teach driving a manual transmission you don’t teach them with a dct.
1. Is least resistant with fluorocarbon max distance casts. 2. Is for braid and monofilament. 3. Fluorocarbon. 4 . For casting light baits in the wind and for skipping.
Jinha I bought my curado dc reel about 11 months ago and I’ve used it in fresh/salt water and it still works and casts beautifully. I even used it at a fishing pier with crazy wind casting up/down wind not a single bird nest and Caught trouts that day.
Great video and love the close ups of the reel. Sounds just like a Daiwa with an SV spool. Daiwa also claims no thumbing casts too. Question is which casts longer the DC or the K???
@@casiokids91 So far in my limited experience with Daiwas it's been the opposite. The Lexa was my first Daiwa about three years ago and sold that one, it kept engaging on the cast. I also have a Zillion TWS 100 XSL, it engages on the cast occasionally but nothing like that Lexa, casts great and was very smooth but now grinds after a little 3 lb. peacock. I've never had a Shimano problem but did the brass gear upgrade in two of three Metanium HGLs after the Zillion started crunching, just in case. Two Curado Ks and a DC, so far I love them. The TranX 200 for throwing big prop baits is awesome, much better than I'd expected after the big 400 which you feel after a bunch of casts. The Abu MGXtreme is my lightest reel and weighed 4.5 oz out of the box but it's so light that it feels like a toy. With a naked BFS rod sitting here that Steez sounds good, may have to give it a go. The BG spinners are great and dirt cheap with more line capacity than the Stradics, good throwdown reels for travel and save the Stradics for home.
I wish there was something you can change out on the HGK so it would make that sound, I have probably 10 of them, all mint condition. But it’s just to expensive for me to have to buy all of them over again in the DC version. 🤔
That’s cool, good review. I have one and I have tried to “no thumb” it and I see it throws some line off. I just use a little thumb and all is good. Nice vid
I assume you leave the brake at factory setting as these reels are not made to change brake settings. Only time you adjust brake is if the spool is shifting left or right and has gotten off the factory setting. Having said that, what settings beween 1 and 4 on the left side of the reel do you use for both pitching and flipping?
It can do fine in salwater. Prm all shimanos are great in salt from the 150+ price range. So is the slx it does good too. I like my lews a little more than my shimanos though. Well baitcasters atleast
Like this reel so much I might get the metanium dc low profile or just get 2 more of these I was launching this with the wind even into to the the right way it goes if yoy have the cash treat yourself all the fisherman good luck this Season stay safe 🐟on
I can trow 5 grams easy with the Curado K too and better because the spool is much lighter the the DC. Luv this Curado K it make some centr break noise in the cast but the DC makes that sound explod and some of us like that. Then the part weight and money and internally its the same reel. So less money, same great reel, lighter spool and reel, no bad promises like casting into a wall or else with no backlashing. If i got no thumb I buy maybe one, otherwise be smart keep the extra money for some good rod.
The DC is use for throwing light lures and against wind with reduce backlashes. "Reduce". It does not mean completely eliminate backlash. I think people misunderstood the wording of it. Overall when it comes down to skipping the DC > SV
I actually thought about getting the dc but end up getting something else when i first started fishing with baitcasters but, ive since learnt to cast without mag control , as fisherman we shouldnt have to rely on gadgets to makes us good fishos but i guess if that how fishing brands makes money then so be it
More or less 2 and 3 is for the lines, 4 is for windy or newbys, 1 for distance on calm days. I have the curado dc. To put it simple this reel helps you thumb so you dont need to thumb. But you still need to stop the lure before it hits the water or its still going to backlash.
Cleaning, use Bantom oil and wash under fresh water. Dry and spray a water dispersement on a cloth and wipe it down. That comes from the shimano manual. Also for best results ship it to shimano to get it maintenanced. They do it free the first year.
Im a firm believer that expensive fishing gear does not make u a better fisher man and does not catch fishes for u. With that being said. Those dc model is sick. I might have to get one nust for that whine.
Lets put ot this way. I have the reel used it nonstop since i got it last month. I have my tension set to how the company wants you to. Doing it this way all it does is help you thumb on the cast but you still need to stop the lire befor it hits the water.
Son Tran In normal conditions they are honestly about the same if you have the curado K tuned right. In windy or lowlight conditions it’s much easier to throw the DC due to the electronic braking.
Digitally controlled, computer chip, monitors speed 1000 times/second...but you still have to adjust it manually and use your thumb to keep it from backlashing. I don't get it. What's the point?
Chuck Barnett when casting normally you don’t really have to thumb it. When you throw it directly into the wall you do get a bit of backlash.. but nothing like you would on a traditional reel
jayrough it definitely would but you don’t have to start with one this nice! There’s a lot of companies out there making good $100 dollar reels. Like the Shimano SLX or the Lews speed spool LFS
It creates its own power. It works like a generator. It has magnets that spin along side coils. A current is created when the spool spins. So it doesn't use batteries. It really is a technological wonder.
@@doinitoutdoors184 It's mechanical, it needs maintenance. Just like all the fishing reels available out there for sale, it takes a bunch of parts to make a reel. The manufacturer ships a schematic with named or numbered parts with the reel. If something breaks, you just order the parts. I do know that the older a reel gets that the parts start costing more. This is because eventually they stop Mass producing the reels and parts become more difficult to get. I have some old Abu Garcia ambassador reels that I have repaired and every time I order parts for them the price keeps getting higher. So to answer your question... Yes the reels can last a lifetime, if you maintain them and the parts are available. Fortunately fishing reels are not to difficult to work on.
Yea I know it's really just the dc chip i was wondering about longevity of. I guess they probably would sell that seperarely as a replacement part as well though probably
