thank you, thank you, thank you. I have the exact same reel as in your demonstration. Mine was barely turning and I did not know how to disassemble it. Thanks to your video, my reel has now been cleaned and lubricated. Now it is back to working condition.!

How serendipitous!! I was just trying to figure out what was going on with an older FX-100 I picked up and this video popped up on my phone. The issue was that the reel would bog down when I tightened up the side case screws all the way but would work normal when they were loosened up a bit. Took the shim washers off and seems to work great now. Can't wait to ice some Crappies with it this winter. Love the channel Dennis and thanks for helping me discover an unbeknownst to me reel collecting addiction😂

Thanks - as I noted in the video, please make sure that the tabs on the side plate bushing is seated properly in the case slots. If they are not, then your reel will bog down as describes. The shim removal may have made it run better, but it is likely that the bushing is not seated correctly. If you have to reseat the bushing, make sure to reinstall the shim washers - Best wishes - Dennis

You mentioned being able to swap parts. Penn is great for this and that’s one of the reasons I have only used Penn reels for my offshore charters since 1994. Many times the entry level reels share many parts as their higher price point brothers. I find many people who toss them out when they have any trouble. I try to fix them and donate to a kids fishing program.

Thanks Great! Yes - the penn 85,285, 60 etc share many parts as do the 155,160,27,200 etc. Most Penn Reels get a 2nd Chance as a parts reel for others even when they are no longer repairable - Dennis

Good video Dennis! I guess this is why these reels and other brands like this are so inexpensive. When I service my big Shimano SSG7000 rear drag reels they are so much more substantial and full of quality metals and parts. There is really no comparison. - Chris

This is almost identical to the TX120Q that I asked you about the other day. Except the drag stack isn't all metal washers.

Ok - yes - there are many copycat models that just change the name or the color. Hard to keep track of them all

Hi Dennis. Hopefully you'll find the parts and be able to video the reassembly of this reel. I have this model and would love to see it.

I am hopeful, but not optimistic that I will find the parts. The reels are inexpensive and folks usually toss them if they break. I will do the video for you if I find the parts Dennis

I have picked up a reel like that, it's a quick fire 11. I have taken it apart an checked it out. Everything looks good but for some reason the drag doesn't want to work. Even tighten the drag it still doesn't help
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
The washers are either seized to the metals or worn. You will need to remove the drag stack to see what the cause is - Dennis

Good afternoon, recently decided to use Penn 209's for catfish rigs. Recieved my 1st one of 6 purchased in the last week on Ebay. The level wind "hoop" seemed loose, not side to side but forward and back. Noticed the slotted cross bar above and reasoned the top of the hoop should be in the slot. Is this correct? TY

@@2ndChanceTackle @2nd Chance Tackle Watching all the Penn vids.. 2nd and 3rd 209 came today, a lil polishing and lube and they will be as good as new. I think these will make great big cat rigs. The quality and robust design of these old Penns are so much better then "modern" reels costing 3-4 times more. #battlewagons

That thin broken drag washer . . . was that a typical felt washer, that dried-up and compressed with contamination? Or was it a washer of some other type of material? Thanks Dennis!
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
That was a plastic washer. They normally do not break, but this one dried out and snapped - Dennis

Thanks I took my fx200 apart to clean now the auto bail doesn’t close after casting, all springs a in good shape, any ideas ?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 10 дней назад
You need to recheck the trip lever. That is the part that closes the bail. Make sure it is attached to the bail arm correctly - Dennis

Shimano still makes a similar cheap reel like that and they are great freshwater reels. I can't find them anymore, maybe it is because salt kills them so quickly.
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle 2 года назад
Yes - the reels start at around $15 and can go long if maintained. If not, well, it's usually on to the next $15 purchase - Thanks Dennis

How do you put the horseshoe clip back in the rear drag assembly?
@2ndChanceTackle
@2ndChanceTackle Год назад
You loosen the drag cap and push it all the way up the assembly so that the slot on the cap is above the bottom of the frame. You can then push the clip into the slot
