Shimano Nexus Alfine 7,8. Gear cassette Installing and adjusting

Brilliant video. Couldn’t have done this without it. This is the craziest piece of bike gear I’ve ever come across. Turns a basic rear wheel puncture repair into a complex nightmare.

I spent hours trying to do this after stupidly removing the rear wheel of my bike. You couldn't have been clearer. My friend, you're my fucking hero!

Had to watch it a second time, but it is actually really clear. Heads up for those with a slightly newer model (with the longer rubber housing) I believe the length from the end of the rubber to the middle of the nut should be 127mm (longer than the style of housing shown here).

Thank you for doing this video. You really saved me. After coming in from a 20 mile ride I decided to wipe the bicycle down. Must have bumped it with the polishing rag because the lock ring came undone along with the other parts. Anyway I had it back in order within minutes after watching your fine instructional video. You sir are a Prince.

Thanks mate, worked well. If anyone else was being a t*@# like me and had it reassembled but then couldn't figure out how to get the tension back in the cable, run the cable the other way round, duh. My minor additional tips: 1. The newer alfine 8's look different to the one in the video but the principle is the same. Mine does NOT have the 3rd red dot at the top of the inner most part, but there was a little round recess in the plastic, line the other 2 red dots up to that instead, with the yellow dot to the left of them as is shown in the video. 2. Might be a bit silly to point it out but it's not visible in this video; the sticking out cable guide bit points towards the front of the bike so put the part on with the red dots lined up with the guide pointing to the front. 3. About the cable run direction for final tension. If the bike is upside down you run the cable under and round towards the floor then back up into the hold, if the bike is right way up you run the cable over the top.
