Imagine legitimately thinking any Code ultimates are a downgrade. Shimano are cheap and work that’s why you get them. They’re not on the same level as these brakes. BTW I’ve just had another XT calliper fail on me and the lever is on its way out. They’re the worst of all the mainstream manufacturers.
Having finally owned a full XT build bike. I can never go back to Sram again. Only becuse the gear ratios on the cassette are far better for me. Other than that I could be happy on either.
I am using a Deore cassette 12 sp with Sram AXS derailleur and KMC chain, it works perfectly. Cheap sturdy cassette - wireless transmission. Extra weight is not applicable to the e-bike, but steel works much longer the Aluminium.
@@vladivanov7645 I don't really ride bikes (at least nothing fancier than a random el cheapo stuff), and this short was randomly recommended to me by algorhitm. This wireless transmission - how is this powered? I saw mentions of firmware, and the controller buttons are electronics and require CR2032 battery. Is the transmission powered directly from the wheel or something?
@@FaiscaaaH it just happened to me this weekend XT calliper seals failed. the lever went two weeks ago lasted for years though they were a warranty replacement for the brake that failed after a few months. Had the worst luck with deore / SLX, never had a calliper last longer than a year lost count of how many that have failed over the last 3 years but it’s more than five and less than ten.
Its crazy, cause there are Lab tests that show both brakes are more than adequate, your tires cannot produce enough traction to overpower both sram and shimano brakes, this applies form the strongest to the weakest of shimano and sram's brakes.
@@jayswavely6371 I stick with XT 8000 T since the XT 780 T and XT 780 M shifters are no more made but the XT 8000 T group has shifters, rear derailleurs, front derailleurs and triple crank that are of unmatched quality price ratio. XT 8000 T pedals offer the advantage to be used wih normal shoes and shimano spd. I too buy a lot of XT cassettes.
@@Adreno23421one of my bikes has a 2013 Shimano break. Never serviced and still working perfect. 5 years ago I switched on my other bike from sram brakes to Shimano. The sram always stuck and got air in it.
@@datschinken6927 Yup, I completely believe. I`ve got some Shimano Deores that have been working flawlessly for 7 years. The tektros on my other bike are quite shitty.
@@ntallocatevirtualmemory8488the only people who think that have never ridden sram brakes at that level. Those codes are in a whole different category to XT’s. My XT calliper failed today and the lever isn’t far behind. They’re the worst brakes of any of the main manufacturers. Sram is so much better.
@@TheNotoriousMIC Agreed!!! I have Shimano brakes on my CF FS Canyon Neuron (SHIMANO TRANS) and SRAM brakes on my AL FS Commencal Meta (SRAM TRANS). While I prefer Shimano Shifter, I far prefer SRAM Brakes
I have no problem with Shimano or Sram brakes. I just don't like Shimanos shifters, (road or mtb, mechanical or electronic), they dont fit my hands and Shimanos mtb shifters feel cheap to me. I also hate thier cranksets, but more than anything I hate thier customer loyalty. It took a total of 6 months for Sram to identify a problem and to issue a recall. Shimano knew for 11 years that thier cranks were bad and did nothing, and even when they did something, it was a fake recall. For this, I can't forgive them. Enjoy your bike, man
@@diehardbikesI kind of agree because SRAM still has DUB I go for Race Face or something else. The same thing with cassettes, SRAM is a little bit too heavy and expensive. If you get a lighter cassette with similar range for less money...
@@macvos Are u serious? Many times you just brake as late as possible to carry more speed, or you just controling the speed, when the world ''modulation'' is important. They are not using a heavy set of 4 pistons with the biggest rotors avaible with 200 or even 220 mm with ticker rotors (to control better the heat) because ''they dont brake much''. The TRP is the first brand to initiate the trend of 220 mm rotors and accorndly to Sram, every 20 mm is about 14% more torque.
@@hooyabaaa2 point is that brakes don't matter as much for top riders. Avid used to sell Juicy/Elixir WC brakes. These were probably the weakest pieces of cr*p from any major brake manufacturer available, but were still used by succesful riders. WC wins have been achieved on both Shimano Saint and on SRAM brakes, both on the opposite ends of the boat anchor versus modulation spectrum. Fast riders tend to brake as little and as short as possible (because of technique). A trained DH rider is therefore much less likely to overheat his/her brakes or not have enough power than an overweight amateur dragging his brakes all down the black descent. Of course athlete racers prefer good equipment and minimize risks, so they'll use powerful brakes regardless. Give them weaker brakes and they'll large rotors to compensate for that. But give them SRAM Code RSC with 180mm rotors and they'll manage, while I would set them on fire and crash.
@@macvos The concept is the same as F1... Brake as late and as hard as possible without locking the wheels to improve lap times. We know that montain bike have areas where you do this, or some areas when you need to control the speed. Saints have more power than almost any brake in the market (maybe Trickstar or Hopes have more power), but many top riders will prefer riding XTR´s or even a mix of XTR levers with Saints calipers to have more control. The initial bite of Shimano brakes are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more powerfull than basically any brake in the market (so they feel way more powerfull than they really are). Codes ,SLX, XT and XTR´s at 40 nm of pressure in the levers (or about 4 kg), all have similar breaking torque (this is tested in a dyno). Pads plays a huge part in braking torque... I have a pair of Avid Code 5 from 2008 that still works perfectly, but i swaped the pads for some really cheap ones... I cant even explain how bad my brakes are now, lol.
April! I was just thinking about that I hadn't seen you in a bit and poof! Here you are! Great interview with Rachel! It's nice to get insight on how racing families keep things going.
Pretty much what I did to my Nukeproof megawatt. Xt in the bin. Eagle GX axs fitted as my XT gear shifts were the worst I have ever owned. Will replace my brakes next as the shimano brake work well but are either on or off... Will go with Hope tech3s or 4s as they give best progressive braking feel for the price.
I will never understand why people clean the bikes after working on them. With all the sand, it's so easy to accidentally scratch the frame or even a threading.
Waste of money. Every bike I get with sram brakes i swap them out after riding ~250 miles (to prove to myself they are still as sh1t as ever, and I need to drop more money on proper brakes). Also swap out anything GX or under out for XT.
As a Mechanic, congratulation you invested in the most expensive, unneeded, Stifter System availbile. Last autm i saw this Stifter Group at a bike Park, the Under swinging arm was bended, but hey, the shift Hanger was still ok...
I ride by shifting gears on my Shimano XTR and you never hear me, then my friend rides by with his Sram drivetrain and he goes click click clunk clunk clank clank! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
