SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so if you haven't heard the original version I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun. So the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- one of her older songs -- was wrote by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun always said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously wrote the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. Yes, in the show IU actually mentioned how Onew was one of her favorite male voices and they talked about how they should do a collaboration together -- which I am sure would be heavenly. (Frankly, after 13 years I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already.) Fun fact No. 2: The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always stand with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, (Jonghyun in the middle,) Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order. SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. Even as rookies they were highly respected by their seniors and peers for their live vocal abilities and the fact that they sound even better live then they do recorded. SHINee live are on a whole other level. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry. And just think, Minho is the main rapper of the group. How often do you see a rapper that can sing as well as him? Or Key who has such a dynamic vocal range and color, etc. Onew is also known for his ability to hold notes for a very long time. As I think you know, he actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch -- 40+ seconds -- when he performed a cover of the song "Friend" in concert. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l5wJDyko5z8.html IU also did a cover of SHINee's song "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" in this same interview. But if you have never heard SHINee's version, or you don't remember what it sounds like, check out the original version first, so you can understand just how unique and cool IU's remixed version was. Both covers are way different then their original versions. Yes, you really should see this whole episode of IU's Palette ep. 5. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2LnCaecCDd0.html (Fun fact No. 3: the show is named after one of IU's albums.) The whole episode is really good. It will help you to get to know SHINee better and to learn a little more about IU. This interview will help you to understand why SHINee are so highly respected by their peers and what it was like in the early days for SHINee, etc. (SHINee were on the show promoting for their "Don't Call Me" comeback, so this was in February.)
As minho says, some leaders lead from above or the front, Jinki leads from the side always supporting them and stepping aside to let them shine, taking care and taking charge from behind the scene, while Jjong was the Superstar frontman. It was always funny to me that these young guy barely adults teamed up to lead their young members to superstardom together. Love love love your reactions.
BIGBANG and SHINee have been my top 2 male groups since their debut, those groups were just meant to be. I always loved SHINee vocals, they put so much emotions into their songs.
@@leemi-cha3229 me too. I adore their vocals, their banter, how loud they are, their individual talents and how hot they are... rspecially the Mr simple era...
Perhaps you have seen it but I would highly recommend Sea of Hope Onew Selene 6.23. Its a duet he sings with a singer Sunwoojunga. Onew is already emotional from a song she has just sung on the show and then he has to perform Jonghyun's lyrics and so it was hard for him and everybody is a mess afterword but WOW it is sublime. If Yolonda hasn't seen it have your tissues ready.
I'm back, not that I want you to see Onew upset and crying it just amazes me how he was able to then sit down and give the performance he gave. Blows my mind. Also the other singer Sunwoojunga is out of this world so if you do decide to check it out maybe try the longer version so you see how hard it was for him at the beginning.
This is Joyce. We'll look up that performance! I've been looking for how to watch full episodes of Sea of Hope for a while now. Do you have any information on that?
Good grief. I can watch this every single day and still get overwhelmed. They sang their beautiful hearts out to reach Jonghyun and IU was in another place reaching out to him too. It is an honor to hear such a talented group. I stan SHINee for a reason.
Okay ladies, I know exactly what you mean with this song. I happened to find this performance and was blown away! As you said, hearing them sing together was EVERYTHING! I'm sure that I listen to/watch this performance at least 3+ times a week. It is so beautiful. Make sure to watch IU perform SHINee's song. She kills it. One question, where can I watch the concert that you spoke about? Thanks for the reaction ladies. Looking forward to your next one.😄💖
Hi!, This is actually a reaction we filmed a while ago. They did a virtual concert in April. I'm sure it's somewhere on RU-vid. It was called Shinee World Beyond Live I believe.
The sincerity in their voices makes me feel so overwhelmed gosh Yes the have the best of best vocals But there's one more extra factor that melts my heart...that's the sincerity in their voice I respect them so very much for this
I love them too! SHINee is awesome performers n they hve truly good personalities. Thank you for your cool reaction. Pls more reactions to their music videos.
omg first of all youre both adorable, but ALSO girl i OBSESSED about the "ara" line as well to the point where I had to find out like why it was so powerful each time and the best theory I could come up with was (and credit to IU's songwriting) is that the "ara" note is B natural (song in D major) and the reason that's impactful is that because of the progression of the melody, your ear is like subconsciously expecting to hear a different note - rather than the B natural, you'd be expecting to hear something that progressed on the previous two line-end notes. but instead it's like somewhat discordant or whatever the right word is, in the most pleasant and great way. it subverts your ear's expectations and gives it something complementary rather than consecutive or linear. but i literally love you for hearing basically the same thing as me, because i spent WEEKS on this song trying to work out why it's so brilliant to me, and specifically the tail note on the "ara"
