IU did great in the Sherlock cover. Most often when singers do covers they try to imitate and sound the original singer or singers of the song but it can never be the same. Taking the song and interpreting the song made it more authentic. Even SHINee sang Dear Name differently than her and in a different key.

You should read the lyrics to Dear Name. SHINee was given an option to sing any IU song and they chose this one and the lyrics were so intended for Jonghyun. It's a tear jerker of a song when you read the lines.

SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so if you haven't heard the original version I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- as you may have realized, SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun. So the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. (If you have never seen the English translation of the lyrics for this song -- there is a version of this performance with English subs. -- I encourage you to look up the lyrics.) Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock -- which features Jonghyun -- was wrote by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun was originally thinking of the song for himself, but he said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously wrote the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- they could have chosen any one of her dozens of songs -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. Before IU sings "Sherlock (Clue & note)," there is a short segment where she talks about and shows how she actually rearranged and remastered this song to create her own version. It's interesting to see how hands-on she was with the whole process. Plus, the whole episode is really good. It will help you to get to know SHINee better and to learn a little more about IU. This interview will help you to understand why SHINee are so highly respected by their peers and what it was like in the early days for SHINee, etc. (SHINee were on the show promoting for their "Don't Call Me" comeback, so this was in February 2021.) As you may know, IU is a solo Kpop artist who debuted 4 months after SHINee, who is known as "the nation's little sister." She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. She is also one of Korea's top actresses -- she has even acted in a drama with Minho, who is also a top male actor. And she has had song collaborations with Key and Taemin when they were younger. In the show, IU actually mentioned how Onew was one of her favorite male voices and they talked about how they should do a collaboration together -- which I am sure would be heavenly. (Frankly, after 14 years I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already.) Yes, all the SHINee members' voices are very dynamic. And just think, Minho and Key are rappers. How often do you hear rappers that can sing like them? That's why SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry. And notice how Onew doesn't even have his in-ears in, so he is only relying on his voice to make sure he hits the right notes -- he actually says it's easier for him to sing when not wear them. Onew is also known for his ability to hold notes for a very long time. As you may know, he actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch -- 40+ seconds -- when he performed a cover of the song "Friend" in concert. And now you understand why SHINee's live vocals are on such another level. Because this is the SHINee standard and it's what they are known for. This is the standard that changed the Kpop industry and took live singing to a whole new level. Kpop would be so different today if it wasn't for SHINee. This also is what makes IU one of the top female solo artists. She is known for doing song collaborations with some of the most unexpected artists and songs and being able to create something amazing that surprises everyone.

Thanks for reacting our boys I believe that SHINee's does harmony be two members or all in the same song, on almost in every song they have, but most notably on ballads. IU's RU-vid channel has released a clip of her opening song of her recent 2 day concert. Where she became the 1st female kpop artist to perform in the Olympic stadium in Seoul. Her opening song was Eight. Which is additionally poignant considering her last song performed in Concert in 2019 was Dear Name which she wasn't sure she could sing because she had just learned of Goo Hara death. There is a fancam of that performance which is extremely powerful. Then she opens her next concert performance almost 2 year later with Eight, about all three friends she lost to suicide. NOTE: her 2019 concert performance held in the Olympic Gymnastics arena marked the first time a female kpop artist had performed their and the first time anyone had performed a 360 degree concert there. Her concert in the Olympic stadium is one of the best produced outdoor concerts in history. She sings Strawberry Moon from a hot air balloon, so that she can get closer to her fans in the upper deck of the stadium. There is an incredible drone light show leading into You & I and Above the Time. The choreo of the light sticks is amazing. She will be releasing the entire concert on Blue ray but hopefully she will release a few more clips of the concert before then.
