14 year old Taemin actually didn't sing on Replay. His vocal training pre-debut was limited by the company because his voice was still changing. He worked his ass off to develop his vocals. This song came out in 2008. The video was reuploaded on to SM new channel in 2011. Shinee debuted on May 25, 2008. Replay remains Shinee's anthem.

SHINee was introduced as a contemporary RNB band which goal is to create a trend among kpop. Replay is my absolutely favorite of old SHINee songs! It was released in 2008 and yes, it’s an ICONIC debut!!! Can you believe their age range was between 14-18, with Taemin being almost a baby at that time, yet they are all so freaking professional??? Yes, SHINee is THE GROUP of Kpop, they literally paved the way! They have EVERYTHING - exceptional vocals, exceptional dancing, exceptional visuals, exceptional concept, everything in this group and this video is simply EXCEPTIONAL!!! And to think that Taemin almost didn’t even sing any lines back then due to his puberty and unstable voice... Look at him now, look at all of them now! Sorry, I know I sound overly emotional, but this is exactly how I am right now. I couldn’t even express the amount of love and admiration that I have for these dearest boys! Taemin had NO vocals on Replay, sadly enough. This is from an iHeart Radio interview with him, about his vocals not being included in their debut song. - "I was a little sad and felt a sense of pity too. That's because initially there was (my voice) before it was gone. It was there and I recorded it too but it slowly got decreased till it disappeared. But when I think about it, it's right to not have my voice because it helped more without my voice. Not in a negative way but to make good music for people to have a good impression of us at the very beginning. That was the right way but I was young at that time so it made me sad. I thought, 'It would have been really good if my voice could be included too since I am debuting as a 'singer.' There were expectations from people around me and from my parents that's why I was sad. But looking back at it, it became a turning point for me and a chance for me to work hard."

All the things you said in this reaction are the reason why SHINee is my ultimate bias. They are setting up the trend since day one. To this day, Replay is still consider one of the best debut in kpop. So many SHINee's songs became iconic and considered kpop classics , such as Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer. Please react to "Juliette" or "Love like Oxygen", I think you'll like them, you can feel the MJ vibe. Well around that time TVXQ was also a 5 member group , a senior (they debut in 2003) from the same company (SM) of SHINee. In 2008 their song "Mirotic" was such a massive hits. Replay is one of the bests debut songs in Kpop, at that time R&B was huge in korea. I starterd following kpop due to TVXQ and their album Mirotic that is almost an R&B album. You can check their title song Mirotic and the B-side song Wrong Number, them both have R&B influences, they're both from 2008

I’m so happy you did this reaction friend!!! I have such a thing for this song, I came into the K pop scene in 2008, I got to see these boys debut. Me being an older fan, Noonan neomu yeppeo means (older girl you’re so pretty) When I saw these boys I thought the same thing, they are ahead of the time. TVXQ came out a little before these guys and I love their song Mirotic. It has an Electro/r&b vibe to it. Mirotic is the VERY first Kpop song I ever heard. Replay came out in 2008, and is THE BEST DEBUT SONG IN HISTORY! About Taemin, he was only 14 when they debuted and his voice was still developing and he could not sing that well yet, so he did not have lines in their debut song. He has worked and trained so hard and become one of the best vocalist/soloist in kpop today. SO PROUD of him! And SHINee was formed as a contemporary R&B group and are very versatile and can do pretty much any style and are always trend leaders.

You need to check out Seo Taeji and Boys, he's the Father of Kpop. I used to like H.O.T. and Baby VOX too (think early Super Junior and Girls Generation). SM hit a home run with SHINee. They're songs are Old and Gold. Replay is actually what made me a hard core Kpop fan. Taemin was touted as a dance prodigy and main vocalist Jonghyun (my Ultimate Bias) didn't really sing until joining SHINee, he was a bassist and pianist in the background.

"Replay" is SHINee's debut song and MV from 2008. The Nuna (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***. Her name is Victoria and she is from the group F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Nunan neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Nunan neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Yeppeo is a term that means beautiful that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Nuna neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them. ***Groups are considered sister/brother groups to each other when they are groups who are under the same label who usually debut within a few years or less of each other and they are usually groups that are similar in size (number of members), the members are all close in age, and they often have similar concepts and music styles. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of their's. That is why they are the princes of Kpop. You really should check out some of SHINee's live performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. If you know EXO then you know how good of vocalists they are, well the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The EXO members and SHINee members are all around the same age and they were in the same trainee classes together and yet SHINee debuted almost 5 years before EXO, so that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends.

Love them to pieces... 💖 With that being said they were not the first for me... It was actually SS501... A 5 member boy group who debuted in June 2005... SS501 was only active until 2010 but in that 5 years had an awesome run... Leader- Kim Hyun Joong, Prince- Heo Young Saeng, Center- Kim Kyu Jong, Sexy Charisma- Park Jung Min, and Maknae- Kim Hyung Jun... Even though they haven't performed together since 2010 the group is still just inactive... They have never disbanded... After their military services they still are doing solo work... Still praying for a comeback for this group... If you want to check them out I suggest- Warning (debut song), A Song Calling You, Snow Prince, Love Like This, Love Ya, Because I'm Stupid, Fighter, 4 Chance , and Let Me Be the One... Just to name a few... 😊 Even though I don't know these other 2 as well they are still in my top 10 which is Big Bang & Super Junior... Check their early works as well... My friends pushed hard to sell me kpop since 2005, but I resisted until Shinee debuted. It's their hip hop R&B sound and Jonhyun's vocals that got me. I was sold hook line and sinker. And shinee has remained the only kpop group that holds my heart till now despite many other awesome kpop idols. The rest just don't cut it for me. I listen to them but not as much as Shinee. I love kpop Listen to exo, bts, super junior, bigbang, got7, etc. But SHnee they have some magic in their voice, music, dance in everything. Now I am a big fan of them!

SHINee was the only idol group at the time doing a straight R&B track for a debut single, but the K-pop scene at the time was dominated by R&B soloists like Rain and Se7en who pretty much were Korea’s answer to Usher. Actually, TVXQ was pretty much the template for all the groups now. SHINee was called “Baby TVXQ” when they came out. And Taemin barely ever sang in their debut album because he was 14 and his voice was still breaking back then. Let’s just say he shocked the K-pop industry when he started singing and sounding like a softer Jonghyun circa Lucifer days.

this was very much inspired by the chris brown era of r&b from the west. however it was done in shinee's own unique way and it created a wave of trends in korea at the time. edit: also fun fact, the female lead in the video is named victoria, she was a chinese trainee under sm at the time and debuted a year later with the group f(x). you should check them out too!

No this song came out in 2008 it was reuploaded in 2011, Shinee was very influenced in R&B, they have another song Love like Oxygen, Jonghyun's favorite song was Ribbons in the Sky by Stevie Wonder, they loved R&b, Jonghyun has a cover of that Woman's Work by Maxwell and when Maxwell went to Korea in 2016 he visited him on his radio show he was shocked at how young Jonghyun was and how well he knew his music and the music from that era. Listen to their song 1 of 1 too you'll be surprised. Another Rnb group 2AM, Mblaq had same style electronic, dance and r&B and of course Urban Zacapa...

You should also check out the older DBSK (a.k.a TVXQ) music. They pre-dated Shinee and had a large international fanbase. They are still around but 3 of the 5 original members left. They were at the start of the 2nd gen groups.

For some reason, (may be is my youtube app, or my phone) I reponded to you in the question I did, but a couple of hours later I cant see it ,so just in case My reply about TVXQ,: I think you should check them since you are very inclined to vocals. They are SHINee seniors and till this day I think SME tried to replicate some of the TVXQ formula in SHINee, since they usually do it a lot example Super Junior- EXO. They had several names since they translate it depending of the country. TVXQ- international name DBSK-Korean TVfXQ- China Tohoshinki- Japan They are kpop, but are considerate Jpop as well because they are huge in japan. The interesting thing about TVXQ is that all members could be Main vocalist in any other group as well they are famous for being an *ACAPELLA* group, you dont see any group this day with that concept anymore. They had 5 members for nearly 7 years, they debuted in 2003 : - Jaejoong: Main vocalist, visual -Yunho: Leader, main dancer, main rapper, vocalist -Junsu: Main vocalist, Lead dancer -Yoochun: Lead rapper, Vocalist Changmin: Lead vocalist, The youngest. *Yes they officially had 2 main vocalist* thats how good they were. They had a lot of problems with the company and 3 of them left and formed an other group *JYJ* (jaejoong,Yoochun,Junsu) and The corrent TVXQ are Changmin and Yunho. I think part of the reason why SME did not gave Taemin vocal lesson were because the problem they had with Junsu, he had vocal classes since he was like 8 years old (junsu was a prodigy child, watch him as 12 years singing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UHYxrknyoUA.html ) if I'm not bad, when he was in to puberty they keep going he got frustrated that could not sing like before and keep forcing his voice in the end he nearly lost it, he basically had to go to the doctor and even re-start learning to sing with his new voice (he ruined the first one, and nearly ruined the second), you will notice the tone he have when he speak(some people say he sound like an anime character). So I think they were kind of scared it happen the same with Taemin, so I dont blame them. Today he is one of the best korean singer anyway. They had a lot of problems since SM keep refusing TVXQ members to release their solo music and only focused on the group, they changed and let SHINee did it afraid they would ruin them like they did with TVXQ. They also had alot of restriction and money issues that they fixed with SHINee as well.
