What did you think of this very short fight? Did Shinji stand a chance against Aizen? Let me know! I'll soon have a poll up for the next battle analysis, so stay tuned!
Shinji could have beaten Aizen. He only lost because Aizen used Kyokasuigetsu to manipulate Shinji's senses, which makes his advantage in the Inverted World disappear. Aizen had already activated Kyokasuigetsu, as Ichigo's screaming at their killing of MoMo is exposed. Shinji could have used Bankai but it would affect his own teammates and was forbidden by Central 46, which he didn't know was murdered by Aizen.
Aizen always makes a point to say he's using his abilities even when it looks like he's using none. I always thought Aizens bankai was to make his perception reality. So when Shinji said his bankai also controlled the senses Aizen actually worried if Shinji had the counter to his ultimate ability.
I loved it. I loved the setup before the fight, knowing that Shinji was his captain and suppose to be superior while Aizen is tiers above in every regard. Their dialogue exchanges are one of my favorites. It is a crime that they didn't talk in TYBW there were sooo many characters i would like to see interact with Aizen during that time.
That one's good too, but my favorite Shinji line is when he was fighting Grimmjow. " If you keep blowing up a building everytime you miss me with an attack, I won't be able to dodge. I'll just feel bad"
Shinji has really grown on me over time, him and Urahara seem to be the only two characters with at Aizen wasn’t 20 steps ahead of. I wish we’d seen more of him especially in the final arc, he had so much potential.
I really agree with you man Shinji and Urahara are the characters that shown their guards up against Aizen before he even showed his intensions Kyouraku is like them as well because he went and checked on Aizen on the pendulum arc at his barracks but sadly Aizen already prepared for that. These 3 characters are my favorite in bleach even more than Ichigo himself.Shinji is very underrated his Shikai is probably one of the trickiest of all but damn the author doesn't want to give him a spotlite.
Sakanade would be op if Shinji could turn off/on the reverse thing at will bc that would completely mess with the targets mind and they’d never really know where he’s coming from
With the exception of Aizen ,Yamamoto, and Tosen(maybe cause his heightened senses) He wouldn’t even need to turn it off/on. It would be a pretty simple win.
Kubo shafted the shit out of the Vizard. Kensei got done even dirtier than Shinji honestly. Base Renji punched around MDM just as hard as Kensei in bankai in TYBW and I really think it's one of the worst examples of garbage power scaling in the series. As well as an egregious example of his desire to have tons of side characters, but do virtually nothing with them.
Its an interesting interaction. Shinji never trusted Aizen and to that extent Shinfield is the only person in SS who beat Aizen in that sense. Does Aizen actually care? I don't think so. Imo its a taunt, possibly by repeating a fake show of emotions he probably doesn't feel. Either that or just some verbal fencing to figure out what Shinji thinks. But I don't think so, i feel like Aizen understands Shinji and is just slightly frustrated the Shinji understands Aizen enough to know he's not to be trusted.
Just thought I'd add something: out of all the Vizards, Hiyori is the one who normally has the most interactions with Shinji in the series even back when they were still a part of the soul society together. Even Captain Hikifune said it was unusual to see Shinji without Hiyori by his side and we know the last time they would've interacted was back 110 years ago in the series before Keisuke took her place. Meaning Shinji and Hiyori's sort of love-hate relationship was well known among the members of the Soul Society which obviously includes Aizen. Shinji was the first one to arrive onsite where Hiyori was being attacked by a Hollowfied Kensei even though Lisa was sent well before the Captain's meeting was over. Which indicates Shinji flash stepped like his life depended on it and despite being yelled at by Hiyori to put her down he never did until she cut him during her Hollowfication. But even while he was going through his own Hollowfication the moment Tosen slashed Hiyori he said fuck it and attacked him because of his attack on Hiyori. Now cut to his fight with Aizen. The moment Hiyori was cut in half by Gin Aizen taunted Shinji to fight him and compared his eyes to the night he was betrayed and transformed into a Vizard. What connects these two fights intimately is his relationship with Hiyori. We all know Hiyori has a short fuse and he actively tried to calm her down by reminding her he was baiting her to attack him but the moment he reminds them of the night they were turned into Vizards that sent her over the edge leading to a similar attack that happened that night. It's interesting that Aizen decided to taunt Shinji the same way he did the night he betrayed him and used Hiyori as a way to bring out the emotional side of Shinji that is rarely seen. Like you said normally he's a jokester but after Hiyori apologizes for the first time and he's holding onto her while she's moments away from death does something to Shinji mentally. While people focus a lot on the back and forth between him and Aizen, not a lot of people talk about Shinji's emotional state after witnessing a similar if not identical attack on Hiyori before the fight.
It's sad that this is probably Shinji's best moment in the series, given how The Thousand-Year Blood War arc made him look very weak. Being the first character to make Aizen bleed is a legitimate feat, the only comparable shining Shinji moment is dominating Grimmjow in battle, but that was a beat-up, one-armed Base Grimmjow, and Shinji was using his Hollow Mask.
Shinji was cool, and a clear outlier among the characters. He has a really cool zanpakuto, and he's incredibly powerful, unfortunately, compared to the rest he's garbage.

@@TheDonovanMcCormick On the other hand he used his mask against Grimmjow and not Aizen. So it's not just about taking somone seriously. More about matching the opponent's style and knocking them down a peg on their own field. As much as I love Grimmjow, he is just a brute, so spanking him in raw strength is more humiliating. He would've probably just been annoyed by Sakanade and started spamming ceroes or another AoE attack at random. On Aizen, he was clearly still stronger, but was forced to the defensive and strategize on the fly, showing he is not as invincible as he plays it up. Another nice Shinji moment is his bankai in Can't Fear You Own World. It also showed and reinforced why that was not a viable route in fake Karakura. Would've preferred a comment back then regarding it much like Shunsui's to make it clear it's not just omitted for writing convenience and saving it for later tho
@@janosd4nuke yea his bankai and Shunsui’s really only are viable when no allies are around. Don’t think he’d come up with them yet at that point. I never understood why the vizards don’t go hollow in TYBW other than Hiyori though. Definitely would’ve helped with hollows being poison too Quincy.
It has to be said, when Kubo has time and will to make the art speak, it lands like a sack of bricks. That leg-with-sandal vis-a-vis Shinji on a roof makes for a great visual.
Vizards literally suffer from the "I give away my abilities to my opponents for the kicks". have they not give it away, theyre kinda have broken abilities imo
Especially rose in the 1000 year blood war arc. Dumbass literally said hey this is how it works and lost when if hed said nothing he would have won it with little effort
Tbf what Mask de Masculine did to get out of the spell is kind of outrageous. Destroying your ears is so debilitating that it pretty much guarantees your death in a war. Your body can't properly function without ears, and it's not just about being able to hear. Rose did not expect that Mask de Masculine could revive little James.
Perhaps his experience with Aizen also inspired him to form the captain-lieutenant relationship with Hinamori Momo. The old Shinji might have not formed a relationship with Momo and treated her like a subordinate. There are people even in real life who don't like to form a bond with co-workers, especially subordinates and instead focus on the friends they made while in university or in school.
The thing is, it wouldn't matter in his case. There are simply too many things to mentally juggle when facing his ability and then there's your own muscle memory as he mentions. Even if you realize the attack is reversed, your body is already instinctively moving to intercept the wrong attack, leaving you wide open to the real one. The problem is Shinji doesn't immediately go for the kill when he has the chance. His ability makes him cocky.
Aizen: Any betrayal you can see is trivial, what is truly frightening is the betrayal you cannot see. Gotta love Aizen and I thought it was actually Aizens old lieutenant of Squad 5
I love Shinji it was always so strange to me how little he had to do after the arrancar arc but at least he was there. But I do actually really love the fight between these two, it was short but it did not overstay its welcome. I remember first watching it being super hyped up especially after the turn back the pendulum mini arc built it up.
The epic boast Shinji gave to Aizen was perfect, you know just laying eyes on the man Shinji briefly returned to that night. Even if Aizen's OP nature eventually dominated you could feel the poison and who could blame Shinji and the others.
The counter to Sakanade as Aizen is very simple, Aizen uses *complete* hypnosis, Shinji's is partial. Shinji hypnotizes his hearing and vision, Aizen can hypnotize the mind, not just the senses. All Aizen needs to do is hypnotize Shinji so that he too flips his sense of "backwardness" and so even though Aizen is still hypnotized by Shinji, he counters the hypnosis by reverting it's effects. Thus why Aizen gives this little chat after of how Kyoka Suigetsu is superior to Sakanade and treating Sakanade as though it is a cheap trick in comparison.
I think Kubo missed a real chance to have the cut Shinji inflicted staining Aizen's white outfit with blood. I think thematically it would fit the making god bleed metaphor and make the strike feel more meaningful and helps illustrate that ultimately Aizen is a mortal with pretentions of godhood. But maybe it did and Aizen is just vain enough after that to use his shikai to pretend it didn't happen. But hey hindsight is 20/20 and maybe Kubo just didn't want to have to draw blood stains cause the white outfit is simpler draw and he doesn't have to color the blood stains to be consistent. Weekly manga drawing is already hard enough when he had to draw so many different looking characters in that part of the story.
23:31- this was a momentous moment that shows the previously unstoppable Aizen can bleed- it sets up the buildup to when he’s ultimately defeated- though it goes from a few scratches to completely outclassed too quickly in my opinion without a proper balanced fight in the middle to make the ahem Mugetsu fiasco less egregious.
While the reveal of Shinji's zanpakuto was certainly a treat, the real awesome moment for me has always been Aizen's grand speeches. Say what you will about Aizen, the man know how to give a good speech.
I mean i'll always enjoy more Kubo-made Bleach fights, but i wasn't disappointed with this fight at all. Aizen already demonstrated before what a monster he is in battle, and he's really just feeling out Shinji's Sakanade here. He quickly figured out a part of Sakanade which surprises Shinji, then figures out the rest after getting hit. And of course also figures it out thanks to getting free information from Shinji. Now the TYBW is where he's vastly underused.
Personally I disagree with the notion that the end of the fight is a cop out in any way. Aizen himself mentions that it appears Shinji's Sakanade is basically a watered down verson of Kyōka Suigetsu. If we're to assume that Aizen has a complete understanding of his Zanpakuto's abilities, in my opinion, it makes complete sense that Aizen is able to over come the effects of the inverted world so quickly.
Shinji revealing he has the most broken AoE ability in the series in CFYoW really made up for how he was used in TYBW. You can definitely tell Narita likes him even if he doesn't get the most to do he's used really well.
Listening to the back and forth between Aizen and Shinji, I would love to hear your thoughts on the dialogue between Aizen and Urahara after his fight with Ichigo. The whole interaction between Aizen and Urahara is worth a separate video - I've always seen Bleach as a chess play between those two.
12:40- that is a sadness that it’s implied that even if they managed to defeat the Soul Reapers with the Royal Guard being the most remote possibility- he’d dispose of the Arrancar like nothing. There’s no outcome good or other where they come out happy. That makes these mostly crazed, arrogant, and bloodthirsty upgraded Hollows surprisingly pitiful- especially the ones that were shanghaied against their will.
Ending of the fight as copout? I don't think so. There is two ways Aizen could have overcame this ability, both based on idea that sakanada's ability is "merely visual illusion". One is Aizen closing his eyes and relying on his other senses to deal the deciding blow. Second possibility is Aizen using kyoka suigetsu on himself to reverse the illusion back correctly.
Shinji was always one of my fav characters, his personality, drip, powers, and vibe were all just badass. I wish they would have showcased him more prominently. My fav vizard besides ichigo and one of the best bleach characters imo.
Each of your videos is a new opportunity to check out and admire what new stuff was added to the shelf. I forget half of these light novels like "Death Saves the Strawberry" or "Spirits are Forever with You" or databooks like "13 Blades" even exist because they never left Japan. And is that the Burn the Witch upcoming volume in Japanese?
I just thought about this remember when Aizen is fighting the gotei and Soi Fon hit him with her shikai ability Aizen says a fight between shinigami is a battle of spiritual pressure and his was so much greater than hers that he was able negate her ability what if he did the same when he was fighting Shinji and negated Sakanade's ability. Probably not the case but it gives so sort of explanation for that scene
Honestly, i think it would have been much cooler if Aizen used some kind of kido spell or if we actually got a monologue of him trying to figure out a way to beat Shinji.
Yeah Shinji didn't stand a chance! I don't think it was a short fight, Aizen did later fight 90% of the heroes all at the same time! You should continue the discussion and discuss how Aizen just crapped on everyone at the same time! One of my favorite episodes!
Shinji is right there with Shunsui and Kisuke. Criminally forgotten and underused like most of the vizards. He really was a brilliant guy with an amazing zanpakuto. Sakanade is no joke; against anyone but Aizen he would be damn near unbeatable.
I always find it weird when people celebrate a "good guy" dying horribly (or nearly dying). Momo got the same treatment. It's just weird to me... And I didn't like either character.
@@TsarDragon I think in the case of Hiyori, a lot of people didn't like her because she was so bitchy all the time. Momo at least showed some emotion besides anger! lmao
Honestly, love this series because this fight is deceptively brilliant. Unfortunately anyone who was to be put against Aizen was doomed. however shinji really does verbally spar with Aizen to great effect
@@UnityStars26 that's why I love the new arc we're getting. Glad to see that not only Boruto but Bleach also moves into the next generations with new captains
well they also trained Ichigo before that, saved him from Grimmjow, and the Turn Back the Pendulum Flashback. They had other moments that made them feel like their own unique faction imo
I've seen people try to argue that that wasn't really Aizen and Shinji was under the influence of Kyokasuigetsu, but Aizen is too proud to even let someone think their winning
@@edgeofultima7483 Aizen being proud would be a failure of great magnitude. Which is why the moment he gets proud, he looses. Up until that point, Aizen was simply pointing out the obvious... He was more powerful than everyone combined. Not as bragging, but as the plain hard truth.
this fight was set up. Shinji's shikai is inferior to KS. It would be the same even if aizen had less spiritual power than shinji. It the same thing as in one piece where flame is weaker than magma. Shinji would have to have at least double SP of aizen to maybe have a chance.
Shinji is actually a very interesting character. He’s a captain that not only is strong but clam and calculate his chances in winning a fight. However because of story requirement, his a character is totally wrecked by kubo
Shinji: "You're at a disadvantage because you don't know my Shikai" Also Shinji: *proceeds to explain his Shikai step by step* I honestly hate this about the Vizard. Especially with the Rose fight.
@@TheDonovanMcCormick It's one of those things that depends on the story, like JOJO has some characters that spill what their stands do but then you have some that don't
Shinji sure had bad match ups to fight when he wasn't training Ichigo. Against literally any of the other bad guys his abilities would've been nice but he went against: Aizen: a guy with even better Illusion abilities that is smart enough to counter him. And Bambi: a psycho with bombs who decided to explode everything around her and ignored his ability altogether. So his weaknesses of going against someone who had an even better version of his sword, AND someone who can just do an omnidirectional attack. Wish his ability was used against someone it worked against.
Not just that, he was never once given a situation in which his insanely powerful bankai was allowed to have any use. He also didn't use his visored abilities and consistently told people how his stuff worked, he got shafted nonstop
I can't speak in regards to the manga, but in the anime Aizen states that he used Kyokasuigetsu to alter Shinji's senses a little and that's why Shinji lost. At least that's what I understood.
I don't know if you are into any other manga but I would love to hear you talk about some other series also. That is not to say I am sick of the Bleach content cause I love it. Can't wait for the new chapters!!
It would have been interesting to see how the fight could've gone. If Shinji was able to use his Bankai. It would've been a better and more impactful story telling between these two former squad members.
Maybe stating the obvious, but what if Aizen gave himself the same debuff with his Shikai as Shinji gave him. dubble reverse would make everything feel "normal"
I love Shinji, he's one of my favourites in the entire series. It did bum me out a bit we didn't get more of him in TYBW, nor any (I think) usage of Visored hollow masks from anyone
Shinji is such a dope and cool character. His design, his personality, his zanpakuto, and his theme, I love it all. He deserved a better fight in TYBW. He became fodder immediately after this fight. Shinji vs. Bambietta existed just so no one asks where he is the entire time.
anybody else loves the fact that Aizen made Tosen the only person with his natural weakness his subordinate, like how Haschwalth kept ishida from fighting yahewh
Kaname joining Aizen makes sense because he hates soul society. Jugram joining Yhwach also makes sense because all he wanted was to feel needed. Not a good comparison at all. Uryu was not immune to Yhwach’s power, he gave him his power and could take it back at any time.
I really like the detail you take with the fights. Even with something as short as this fight you're able to piece enough of it to kinda make me appreciate it. I thought the shinji vs aizen fight was stupid and Shinji had a rather OP power but really not. Even understanding that it was a power that against almost anyone else would be a gamechanger but against Aizen not so much. But I guess the real battle was of words not of swords, it makes sense.
Shinji is one of the best Bleach characters, too bad he only gets to shine when he stomped on Grimmjow and that wasn't even that impressive because of Grimmjow being injured and missing an arm. I really hope we get to see him shine in this new arc because it really hurts me to see my boy Shinji keep getting shafted over and over
My two favorite Aizen quotes... Maybe my two favorite "Sinister" quotes in the main series, are both said to Shinji. 1. "Betrayal you can see is trivial... What is truly frightening... Is betrayal you can not see... 2. The whole "Kings and Gods" speech that you mentioned here. Good stuff.
I will forever be sad over how little screentime the Vizards got in the end. I mean we have this incredible team of Captains and vice captains with hollow powers and we see them for so little. Shinji is one of the most major and powerful characters in Bleach and they really did my boy dirty.
Wanna make a good video? Speculate the captains from hueco Mundo and fake karkura town swapping place and fighting espada/aizen. No one has ever discussed this!
This is the best Visard fight, which makes me pretty sad, cuz Mashiro vs Yhwah would be very good match, I know Mashiro is Overpowered, but Yhwah might hold his ground for a few panels
Aizen figuring sakanade out so quickly after reading what the ability was just let the reader know he's a monster intellectually as well as physically...or at least that's what I took from it
Dude Shinji did the dumb thing of telling aizen his ability. but Aizen reversed it. I'd say both were underplaying the effects of the others power. Aizen didn't reverse everything, that's why he got scratched. Shinji once again didn't think Aizen would make koka suigetsu reverse everything in time. Then it's technically base Aizen vs Base Shinji. And Aizen is way superior.
@@ubaidmohamed3956 I didn't think he used kokasuigetsu at all I just thought his reactions and intellect are so off the charts he can think it through in his mind quick enough to react accordingly, whereas I think ichigo would take a few days lol
I just wish the fight lasted longer, really. I get Aizen is significantly stronger and in a way, Shinji was never gonna win, he's a side character against a big bad, but because of how personal this all really felt, I thought he deserved to feel at least that he won in some way, even if he doesn't truly win the fight. The gaps between their powers and even minds were so big. His fight should've lasted longer. He tried too much to rely on his Sakanade, or at least had a role given to him by Urahara, like how Urahara planted kidos in Aizen, like maybe planting something on Aizen as Shinji would cut him.
I think a better way for Aizen to overcome Sakanade would have been to put himself under his complete Hypnosis. As he said, his Kyoka Suigetsu controls all 5 senses, so if Sakanade flips around his sense of direction, she should have been able to use his Complete Hypnosis to fix his perception instead of unrealistically just becoming adjusted to doing everything in reverse
