Ive got about 4000 miles on set of these on a gs1200 adventure. I live in Vancouver BC, and its wet here on tarmac a lot fo the year with greasy section so I always look for a soft compound tire thats is great in the wet. Also need something for occasional tougher offroad sections, they dont come up very often but when they do and Im loaded down I want all the traction I can get. Ive run a GS1200 for about 10 years now and have tried a lot of different tires, Metzeler Tourance Through TKC80 on the GSA. TKC would bum me out because I was only getting like 4000 miles or less even on a rear with loaded bike (And Im 260lbs as well). Heidenau last forever I got about 12k miles on a set with those but they are slippy in the wet and noisy up front. The TKC 70 I thought was my fav, and got about 10k miles with them, very good off-road in all but sand and rock, but stay away, anything over 60mph and the front end starts rattling around. I thought something was wrong with my bike for a good long time and it made riding not even fun. Mitas e05 is pretty solid, just did the job but not outstanding off road. In the end for the price the shinko 80x is the move for me on this big bike. they are cheap enough I can flip a new rear on every 7000 and a front too (could go another 3000 overt the rear probably from looks of it) for about 225 bucks to my door, which isn't even worth thinking about for what this tire does, and the other costs that go into this hobby. I noticed also as Kyle does that they can push a bit in the corners, but that goes away after the first 10% wear or so once the tires settle in and those corners come off.. Then they are very easy to ride with very gradual slip even when pushed pretty hard. Im just back from 2000 miles on twistys and I enjoyed them all the way through. Best thing is NO DRONE AT ALL from these tires. Stay safe out there guys... Great Vids Kyle thanks for putting the work in on them.

Excellent video, and excellent comment! I’ve run Tourance, 705’s, TKC80’s and heidenau scouts, and I agree. 705’s grip better than you’d think they would on hard surfaces and have good street manners wet or dry. TKC80’s do better in soft stuff and start to slide gradually and predictably when pushed on the street- but some of my rides last longer than they do... The heidenau scouts kind of spook me in the wet, suddenly and completely breaking loose. 804/805 will be the next set of tires.

Running 705s on my V-strom 650 now, had 804/805s previously. I think Kyle reflects accurately the capabilities and feel of both tire sets. The 804/805s hold notably better offroad with great acceleration traction though the back will slip a bit side to side when pushed hard off pavement. The 705s are smooth on paved wet or dry and just a bit ass-happy on gravel. The rear slide is easily controlled with throttle modulation, very predictable. The 705 front keeps me wide awake off pavement, though it gets the job done. I don't know which I'll buy next, maybe a blend of 805 rear and keep running my 705 front. I ran the 804/805s for 6,000 miles, I have 4,500 miles on the 705s now with no measurable wear showing on the front, maybe 1,500 miles or so left on the rear. I ride with "considerable enthusiasm" off pavement (5%), conservatively on road (95%). I have purchased lots of tires from Chapparal and always had quick shipping, great service and the best prices I could find. Thank you for the honest reviews, dirt naps and all, they really are helpful~

Thank you for sharing your personal insight Todd. I was totally blown away at the performance of both the 705 and the 804/805 tires. I was not expecting them to perform as well as they did... For sure the best value tire in the bunch with nearly the same performance. Nice work Shinko! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Update; The 705 rear lasted 7,541 miles and was beginning to lose traction with hard acceleration on dry pavement. Replaced with another 705 rear, now at 10,000 miles on the front tire, should last through two rear tires. These are really good for paved wet or dry, 2up, and gravel. Still find the front requiring much attention off pavement though a bit better aired down to 28psi.

Todd Roll. During a long mostly off pavement/20% single track ride, one of my buddies riding a Wee, a very experienced rider, used the 804/805 on the front, the 705 on the rear. I thought the setup was backwards but he proved me wrong; it was an excellent setup for the ride.

These really are the best off-road ADV value out there but you can't run them at 30psi on the road, raise the pressure a bit and you'll see these perform better - on the R1200GSA and at proper road pressure they work very well - I've done 7+k miles on these tires and outside of vibration when worn, these tires were quite amazing - I've tested now the Karoo Street and the Amakee Adventures and neither was anywhere near the 804/805 in the off-road - on the street, of course, the Karoo & Anakee are hugely better - however, I found the 805 better than the Karoo 3 rear off-road in some common off-road conditions, even in sand, it was a wash (pun intended) though they did feel dissimilar but got the job done with a little adjustment in rider clutch and throttle. The Karoo 3 front though is significantly better than the 804 off-road but on road, the 804, pressured properly, felt better and more planted at speed on the R1200GSA with full tank, panniers and trunk - very big downside to 804/805 is the speed rating of only 99mph - yikes - I did push it past that a few times passing big trucks in the middle of nowhere but I did feel pretty nervous about it! in any case thanks for the nice review and ride footage!

Great review! I’ve got about 9000kms on a set of 804/805 mounted on a Moto Guzzi V85tt… I find that the front really likes to track and wobble all over the place on gravel and sand, it’s actually fairly difficult to ride those type of terrain’s and find them pretty scary in the rain. My over all take on these is- if you want a budget tire to get you through your off-road adventures not a horrible choice, if you ride mostly on road, these are not my first choice especially if you live where it rains a lot- that back end slides out a lot while cornering. TKC 70 rocks might be my next choice for a rear tire. I’d really love to see you do a review on the Rocks tire but mounted on a heavier bike .

Great review, great tires. I went through many sets of these and they are flawless both on and offroad. I had the rear slip once and it was within the first 100km. After that I would grind pegs on my Scrambler no problems. These are better than the TKC80 in just about every way, and half the price. They are obviously not sport tires, but no 50/50 tires will be :)

@@drewridesacrossamerica I did actually. I've only put 20 miles or so on it, but they seem to work pretty well. It's strange. I've been running the 705s for several years and I never really noticed any tendency for the rear to get loose in the dirt. Mainly because I know the limits of the tires and wouldn't really push. The 804 on the front is so rock solid that I push harder. And then notice the rear sliding more than expected. Easily controllable, but should've been expected given the tire configuration. For example. A local dirt road that I ride often. 705's front and rear I run 35 to 40 mph and I'm hyper focused on the turns to keep everything in line because the front feels twitchy. Same road yesterday with the 804 on the front and I'm running 50 to 55 mph and didn't even realize it. The rear would slide and spin mildly, but would recover with little to no effort. I'm not completely sold. Not with only 20 miles. But the combination seems to work.

We ran 30 PSI in every tire in every situation. This was a middle of the road pressure that would allow us to baseline each tire. Max PSI was different for every tire... as was the manufacture recommended solo riding. I don't think I've seen that angle of how far you had those tired leaned on pavement. That was a great shot. I seen how fast you were taking those rallyz tires on asphalt. And it looked like you were deep but the angle you had for this vid was great. I won't the most knobby tire that I can still trust on pavement. I'm a heavy guy at 300 plus. So I don't like a real squirmy knobby. I have the weight to push the knobby over. Which 50/50 tire or more off road oriented tire have you had the most confidence on pavement to this point?

Don't know how I missed this comment... Hands down the most solid feeling confidence inspiring 50/50 or knobbier tire is the Bridgestone AX41. I'd like to have something more dirt worthy than the 705, but every time I try something more knobby, the road noise and vibrations just aren't worth it.

Hello, understandable. Have you taken a look at our entire ADV tire shootout? We don't account for road noise, but there may be some useful information for you in here: www.chapmoto.com/blog/motorcycle-gear-guides/adv-motorcycle-tires/

How do these compare to the Anakee Wilds and and the Motoz Tractionator Adventure tires?

@@chaparralmotorsports I am now torn between the Motoz Rallz, the Anakee Adventure, and the Bridgestone AX41. I think y’all are somewhat generous with the Trailmax Mission tires, they are amazing on road, and ok off-road. But not quite a 50/50 tire. The Anakee Wild’s are noticeably better off-road. I really don’t like the Anakee at high speeds on the highway. But I’m looking to do 4 days in Baja slightly above my skill level off-road (and its gonna be about 500 to 600 miles of highway to get there). - Anyway y’all are awesome with these videos and write ups!

I have now new front SHINKO 804 & rear MOTOZ Tractionator Adventure combo on my extra-modded DR650SE ('99) thanks to you sir! I'll admit it's quite an ADV tire adventure seeking the ideal 50/50'ish combo with the least compromise possible!! 😅🤪

Hi, thanks for watching our video. That sounds like a great combination. Let us know how you like it.

@@chaparralmotorsports before that I had a- Front KENDA BIG BLOCK Rear METZLER Enduro 3 Sahara Although a very nice and interesting 50\50'ish combo it still seems now that is felt somewhat more of a compromise when trying to max the positive experience on both *on* and *off* road put against the new combo which already seems to have either ¹more general grip & bite offroad and ²rounder more complimenting for onroad as they also have more contact surface on every block inspite the fact they sport generous spacing between the blocks. One 1st gripe I have is that the new rear Tractionator Adventure seems to have odd edge-chipping on the center blocks and I sincerely hope they're superficial. Tomorrow I'll have a look again and try to assess if its from bite or from braking.. inspite the fact it's the rear.. It's still too soon to give a decisive conclusion of course, but that's a present assessment.. Jo. P.S. I received some *MEGA(insane)-DUTY* tubes made by MOTOZ, 3mm thick front(!!) and 4mm thick rear(!!!!!) which made the mechanic curse all along the install.... oh boy..

how good is the lateral traction on the 805/804? seems like they would easily slide out on off-camber or braking in grassy areas? how does the motoz Rallz compare to these shinko 804/805's both on & off road? thx Kyle! ;)

Jamby7, I have not ridden these tires in wet grass or mud... but I have asked around and others do say that they are a bit slippery. As compared to the RallZ tire, the RallZ has a thicker / deeper tread pattern and I have run them in wet nasty conditions. I love the Motoz Adventure and RallZ, but I have heard a few folks who have had a similar experience to mld. The 6 or 7 sets of Motoz tires I have personally purchased and ran on my BMW R1200GS, KTM 950 Super Enduro and 1190 Adv R have all treated me well. 4k to 6k on the Adv / RallZ and 10K+ on the GPS tires. Just my 2 cents... -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Very similar to a TKC80 in the wet / sloppy from what I have been told from buddys who have run them.

Man... I have liked the Motoz tires so much... I am disappointed that you had a bad experience. However, I have heard a similar story from a hand full of people. They work well for me, thankfully!

On a wet road the 705 will be SO MUCH better than 805. The 705 is FAR better on pavement. Anyone who is on pavement more than 50% of the time should go with the 705.

With the AF (or any higher spec bike) are the Shinko’s really worth the cost of their installation? I rub through a lot of tires but, more than the cost of the tires, it’s the installation costs I resent. So, doesn’t the Africa Twin “deserve” better (IE: more expensive) tires? My not so rational mindset tells me if I’m paying that much to install the tires, I may as well spend 30% more and get the best performance possible. Opinions?

Hi Walter, thanks for watching our video. You make some good points. Check out our results video where we break down the overall testing from our ADV tire test series and talk about the top three performers and top three overall tires for performance, mileage, and price. We deemed the Michelin Battleaxe AX41 Adventurecross to be the best overall 50/50 tire. Here's the link to the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gjtgLz1LjnE.html Hope that helps. Ride safe.

No, the knobby is too thin. It is designed to fail sooner than the Dunlop 606 (I employed the D606 from Canada past San Francisco and back on 2,500 mile road trips at posted speed limits). And off-road also. I'm using the Shinko 700 inferior design this 2023 to refresh skills that I lost after going with D606. after 2008. Have a nice day. Bye-bye.........

Well yeah it can happen with you are just shooting on the fly. You get set into a speech pattern or get specific words locked into your brain and you just keep saying them without noticing.
