Star Citizen aims to span multiple video game types by combining space trading, space combat and shooter elements, in a first person massively multiplayer online game. In October of 2012, Chris Roberts, the creator of the wing commander series, launched a Kickstarter Campaign whose goal was to create the seamless persistent universe and the narrative player experience squadron 42. The project continues to break Guinness Records through incredible community support. Despite the technical hurdles, CIG demonstrates tangible results and continues to prove to its backers that the impossible is becoming possible. The scope and scale of the game increased as more funding was pledged, which became known as feature creep. Most accept that delays, although frustrating, do result in obvious progress. The player backers are given early access to the current live version of the game code, to test and offer feedback. The player experience changes from enjoyable to frustrating and back again, sometimes day by day. Star Citizen can be enjoyed, and take a break when it suits you. Numerous content creators cover the ongoing situation to keep you informed and up to day. As an early backer and tester, you need to be ready for its quirks but you can also witness the game evolve.

If I was spending my own cash I would buy the Valk, as I feel it would be more versatile. If I hadn't spent real cash I would look at buying a Valk in game for the same reason, it's versatility. If I needed to use a Prowler I think it would be rented for the mission. If I won a Prowler, it would be a Trophy ship. ;)

Well made and I'm loving the ship fight series :) You are in my eyes the man when it comes to star citizen vids for info and updates. Iv probaly made the mistake on my end, however when comparing the drop ships in SC I noted the prowler having 16 standing and the valk having 20 seated :) Regardless of this small detail I cant appreciate you're approach, value and diligence in each vid enough

I tried out the Valk today at the Fleet Week and I fell in love. I wish CIG would add a warfront somewhere so ships like this could be used properly, never mind all the torpedo ships, bombers & Capital ship killers etc.

UEE Navy "contractor" missions delivering supplies or something to a Foward Operating Base or squad in the field, perhaps even to Idrises, would make amazing missions for ships like the Valk or Cutlass type ships even if scripted IMO. Could even make the pay scale with the threat level in the area you are being asked to deliver to. with super bonus cash for resupplying units engaged or operating in Vanduul space!

Overall, I like the versatility and straightforwardness of the Valkyrie, but man I'm psyched to explore and push the possibilities of Prowler gameplay, (especially once they get those Dragonfly-like gravlevs working and it becomes a pseudo hovertank !)

I agree with you that the Valkyrie is a more versatile ship, with the Prowler being outstandingly good at one specific, niche purpose. There is one potential difference that you may have missed, and it's that the Valkyrie is meant for ground deployment whereas the Prowler, if I am not mistaken, would also be used for assaulting capital ships in space. As a side note, the Valkyrie can transport cargo as well instead of the Cyclone (not in addition to, AFAIK). You may want to add the Vanguard to a video in which you talk about future use of each and every available dropship, same way as you mentioned the assaulting the enemy corp's outpost without a trace using the Prowler in this video, which was a very nice touch. Good video, Noobifier, as always. Keep up the good work! :-)

Prowler: stealth assault and covert insertion. Valk: classical troop carrier/ground support Both have their unique use cases but if I had to choose one, I too would choose the Valk. Versatility is king

I CCU'ed my Valkyrie and replaced it with a Prowler. That is not a criticism of the Valkyrie, because I would love to still have one. The reason I made the change was because my brother and his Wife do not play much anymore, and that left my Wife and I to try to crew the Valkyrie with just two of us. So it's obviously less effective as a platform that way. The Prowler on the other hand is perfect for a crew of two, it is fun to fly, and is a beast in combat for System Patrol missions and Bounty Hunting. (For now) Maybe one day I'll get a Valkyrie again, because I did like it a lot. Great video, NOOB. The more I fly the lobster bird, the more I like it.

The one design aspect of the Valkyrie that's always bugged me is the lack of bulkheads securing the crew space. It is open to the cargo area. The drop troops are kept secure in their separate, 10-man rooms, but if the hull is ever compromised in space and any of the Valk crew is helmetless, they are subjected to the loss of atmosphere. It's an admittedly low-probability scenario, but it's still a design flaw in my eyes.

Very informative. I tried the valk today and I own the prowler. As of today, playing this game alone, my prowler can do most of the missions other than cargo. The valk seem useless for now, other than cargo. Thanks for the vid as always. Merci!

I agree, but have reservations about why. Thank you for taking time to mention the other dropship craft that are available for quick comparison. I would agree that for a classic dropship, which can provide excellent support to the ground troops, the Valkery wins this fight by a decent margin. So I agree. However, I am surprised that every content creator I've seen cover the Esperia Prowler completely glosses over the main unique strength this ship was designed for. The Prowler was designed to stealth its way onto enemy ship hulls and deploy its troops for boarding actions in space. You hinted at this capability when you mentioned the door shields, but only as some sort of protection from enemy fire. The atmosphere retaining shields and rapid deployment style doors make the Prowler better designed for this role more than any other ship in the Verse. The lack of any vehicle carrying capability doesn't hinder this role since deploying anything that might aid troops deployed in space, like Dragonfly, could compromise the stealth of the assault group due to the EM signature of the vehicles. Even comparing the two ships color schemes points to the difference in their roles. I still feel you made a good comparison, but based on your criteria for which is best, the Valkery couldn't lose. The Prowler is more specific in its design for the purpose intended, which makes it better than any other ship when looking at it from that perspective. To me the Valkery is the APC that drops off combat troops overtly and can do so in the most intense situations. Whereas the Prowler is the ship that drops off a strike force like SEALs for covert missions. I also feel the Valkery is the better all-rounder, and if I had to pick one over the other, the Valkery would be my choice. Thank you for the video. As a member of ZDF the valk is my favorite. Many good times were had in that ship. Many good times to be had are coming. Valk 10/10 ship, would listen to Rex scream again

Well done delineating the distinct differences. Valkyrie wins for me for same reason it does for you, more common uses resulting in more often use. For me its mostly utilitarian. Carrack has drop ship usage too. Pisces can forward deploy and scout with 3 -5 personnel, Carrack can quantum down on top of Pisces position and deliver two Rovers with several more troops and it has beastly tanking to take enemy ground fire including from Ballista missile trucks which the side and bottom turrets will make short work of. Bonus, medical bed is going to get troops back into the fight faster.

Nailed it. I've seen a lot of people dismiss the prowler because it doesn't do x. But if you stick to what it was built for, it's an awesome ship. My org plans to run them for Data theft raids, paired with a Merc, mantis, and Nautilus.

Like you said! Both ships have their own work field! The Valkyrie is a open war field Drop ship and on the other side I see the Prowler as a special OPS Drop Ship. To compare them is a little bit off, because if you take both ships for a opposite work they have not the same effect. For a standard Battlefield it would be the way, that a Prowler comes in stealth mode first and disturb the defense and after that comes Valkyries to land the main force. So the question would be which role I and the boys would play. Special Operation or Shock troopers?

I personally love the scary look and feel of the Prowler over the clunkier appearance of the Valkyrie, but I also see the benefit in the ability to bring a ground vehicle along for the ride. Ultimately, though, I'd have to go for a Prowler for my personal playstyle over the Valkyrie. Thanks for detailing the differences!

I think that the Valkyrie's ability to deliver 20 troops, 2 ground vehicles like a Tumbril TR, and be able to loiter and provide covering fire and logistical support to ground troops, makes the Valkyrie the hands down winner in a drop ship/gun ship role. I agree that the Prowler is scary in its intended role, but it's too niche of a role to be useful all of the time.

I personally prefer prowler, but that’s just because of my play style, in most games I’ve always taken to the Stealthy approach if it’s offered, and in the future the prowlers stealth capabilities, gravlevs, and phalanx shielding should allow for the undetectable boarding of an enemy cap ship, a small teams of 16 players could do some real damage. Gives the prowler an anti capital ship role.

I am unreasonably in love with the Valkyrie. I went years without trying it due to my lack of need for a dropship, its extraordinary high price both pledge and ingame compared to other vehicles its size, and the fact that i was told it had almost no pilot controlled weaponry. Those factors are still true... but after having enough extra credits tbis cycle to throw at the Valk just for fun to try it out... i am in love. Even though it doesnt have all its features yet, it has EVERYTHING ive dreamed of in a post-release daily driver. Space for friends? Try 25. Space for Cargo? Not enough grid to compete with the other medium cargos, but enough space to fit even more vehicles than any of them, even Cutlass Black! Its armored, has VTOL, has more guns than most ships its size (even drake ships XD) has 25 jump seats, 20+ weapon racks, fits a full on Ursa or Nursa, fits snub ships like the Merlin, Archimedes, and Fury, and STILL has ungridded room for some 1-2 SCU loot boxes on BOTH decks! If it wasnt 375 dollars i would have pledged it the moment i discovered my love for it. Heck.... i may yet take one of my Galaxy chains and sacrifice its end step and just keep it as a Valkyrie path to upgrade from my C1... i will wait to see how much I love the Zeus... but the Valk has my heart for now. Even in the space its in these days less maneuverable and slower than ever thanks to Master Modes.

Good rundown albeit you missed the weapons coverage and get of dodge scenario... Also I would say the Prowler is the Black Hawk and the Valk is a battle tank that will be seen long before it arrives. Black Hawks come in quite drop, complete mission and get out without being noticed and if it is noticed has some descent defence capabilities..

Something that wasn't mentioned in the video, but is an important part of the Prowler's lore, was how effective of a ship boarding tool is was during the Tevarin wars. For ground-based missions I feel the Valkyrie has the edge when stealth isn't needed, but it might be a good idea to resurrect this ship fight once boarding mechanics are fleshed out to see how they compare for those missions.

Valk is your chinnok/osprey. Its meant for delivering lots of troops and cargo into battle and it is armed to the teeth to help support the fight after. It has become one of my favorite ships especially after theu gave it some cargo. The only real downside is the ridicuolous price

Can't agree more! While the Prowler certainly has its uses it's also less flexible than the Valkyrie. The Valk can not only clear a landing ground before letting the troops jump out, it can also provide cover for returning troops. Downsides are the depressurization when operating in EVA / non breathable atmosphere and certainly high profile, making it difficult to get behind the lines. In the end I decided to go with the Valk as the more traditional dropship.

My 2 cents. I have tried both ships and I think the comparison is good Noobifier1337. If you are in the market & want to spend $350us + on a ship then here is what I would say. If you plan on mostly being alone or in a small group of 3 or so and want some flexibility to do NPC combat missions, then the Prowler is a good fit. But if you want that full on, 5 guys on the guns, 20 guys on foot pouring out onto the field while unloading two rovers into battle kind on mayhem.... then it’s Valkyrie all the way. Cheers! Each has their own advantage. One is more towards Frontline assault while the other is more stealth, behind the lines black ops/reinforcement play style. And both can be used in the same theater of combat. Still awesome to have both and using them where they are best used.

One of the big factors with the Prowler is its grav levs and its ability to hug a ships contours in space, imo its a ship to deliver troops quietly to space born ships while the Valkyrie is a ground delivery system.

I finally picked up a Valk mostly as a support toy hauler in case trouble comes looking, and I also have the Prowler in the hopes that is might get a bounty hunting module to swap out the seats for Cryostasis, or restraints. My org doesn't do military ops, but we'll be defended while we function.

This is a tough call indeed. Once the nerf bat gets done with the Prowler, many of them will get melted because it becomes a narrower focused ship than the Valkyrie. For now, the Prowler is a meme ship that keeps it popular even at that high price. The Valkyrie on the other hand, really needs some love to bring it in-line with it’s outrageous price. Maybe as simple as slaving the lower turret to the pilot or upping the pilot guns to S3’s. It really needs a head for that many Marines and a couple of water fountains. Maybe trade all those racks for a low tier med bed to stabilize a casualty or two. Anyway, POS or not, I love my Valkyrie.

I love the Prowler and sneaking in with a crack team of players to take out a target is my idea of fun (Special Forces Drop). Once a dropship is detected you are in real danger of Missile attack from a Ballista or fighters etc Saying that the Valk is perfect for 2nd wave reinforcement and resupply so both is best used in combined arms.

The Prowler requires one pilot to fully operate. I find myself loving the Valkyrie but I don't have four additional people available to make it work. (And when I do, a Hammerhead seems a better option.) With that said, I'll keep my eyes open hoping for a shot at the Valkyrie next month! It is without a doubt my most favourite ship lookswise!

Can't really compare a Hammerhead to a Valk, its bigger but its not better for its intended role. With the valk's size and thrusters it would make it much more maneuverable and could find places to land much easier and quicker, plus ofcourse it has a ramp to let vehicles out, its a dropship after all. Also if its your intention to pilot/man a *dropship* alone, you are not using it for its intended purpose. If you just want a ship you want to fully operate alone, then it would make more sense to get an actual fighter.

The Valkyrie is also surprisingly easy to fly once you learn when to vector the thrusters. It's the ship I always come back to when I need to become space UPS.

The Conny Andy although not a dropship in design, clearly can act as one with the massive drop-down cargo section. And miny drop-down entry section. You drop the Merlin for cap on the way in. When they fix that.

Great assessment. For me, I think Valkyrie is the way to go for troop transport into hot zones, Prowler is the way to go for stealth, special, and ship boarding ops.

the prowler is far superior in my opinion, as it can use all of its guns for cas while behing oparated by only one person, the valk needs 5-7 crew members, which means that you can allocate the other org members for either more troops or for cas ships (or more prowlers which means that the prowler is much more efficient in terms of crew to troop ratio then the valk). the prowler is also stealthier and provides quicker dismount options for the troops. and most importantly when decompression comes, the valk will be only useful in atmosphere, as it has no air lock between the crew and the troops ramp, while the prowler has air shields that let it open all of its doors without decompressing . it also has gravlev which is sick af.

You forgot one very important thing: THE PROWLER LOOKS ABSOLUTELY BADASS! Seriously, if the put as much love into every ship design as they did in the prowler, I'd have a lot more of them. If they made a variant that has cargo space instead of drop seats and maybe a bed, that could end up the one ship I need. Too bad they already confirmed it's "OP" and they'll nerf it.

I kinda see the carrack as...maybe not a drop ship, but definitely a ship that can send a specialist squad in with any toys they require, its kinda like the normandy from mass effect. Maybe an investigative team ship?

I agree the Valkyrie will be more common and is better for its multifunction, but I think the Prowler can more uniquely complement other dropships. For example, 3 Cutlass Blacks drop 18 troops and several vehicles - adding a Valkyrie allows it to safely lead the charge and double the troops, if not the vehicles, but a Prowler can add fewer troops more flexibly, possibly flanking the engagement or on a mission target whose guards are distracted.

Agreed. Valk is a do-all and in a supported role will get used a lot. It's biggest weakness right now is the shield and that's an alpha thing.

the biggest issue with the valk is it's designed for in atmo missions only, when we have pressure and depressurisation, the valk will only really be able to operate in atmo for dropship ops without some issues, the prowler is space ops/low atmo, and the stealth even supports that, because when sneaking up on a ship, you need to avoid detection as much as possible from a ship radar, so I really think you won't be able to use the valk if you want to take over a ship, and the prowler is best used in areas the valk can't go.

Hercules C2. Deploy two tonks. or a tonk + ballista. Don't land right next to enemy base. According to CIG plans, there'd be areas where spaceships can't go. well.. a TONK seems like a pretty scary idea to discover without spaceship support.

I agree entirely, except that the way I phrase it is that the Valk is a traditional drop ship that clears a drop zone, protects the disembarkation, and then provides direct support of the advance while the Prowler is a direct assault ship that shoots its way directly to the target and then drops troops right at the assault point. Why unload a vehicle when you are already there? Another way to put it is that the Prowler is like the stealth Blackhawk helicopters uses by Seal Team Six while the Valkyrie is more like a V22 Osprey.

The Prowler can be used in space and on planets/moons without a breathable atmo without venting the whole interior. It will probably be more effective on such planets and moons, and will also be more effective in boarding opperations in space.

What about capital ship boarding? i believe the prowler would be much better suited for that over the valk since it's a smaller target and you dont need the additional vehicle space (although you coud just swap out the vehicle for more marines). I do wonder how well the lower signature of the prowler will do when trying to get by sensors of capital ships in that type of situation though. Also, i believe it is much better to have 2 transports splitting up the marine compliment as opposed to 1 carrying the entire platoon. In the event that the transports start taking fire the 2 transports splitting the troop compliment will have a higher chance of delivering at least half of the assault team in the case that one gets shot down. If the valk were to get shot down then that would mean mission failure right there as you've lost your entire team in that single ship. Definitely very situational in regards to which ship you decide to pick for a mission though. If you're already going in loud with a very large compliment of ground forces then valks would be highly effective for getting a high volume of said ground forces onto the field at once very quickly.

TheNOOBIFIER1337 in a recent interview CIG still said it’s all so still a drop ship... a drop ship with more guns I believe the 3 guys responsible for ship deployment said it.

All very good points, Great video, as usual. I know that the stats page is a mess, but throwing the Constellation Andromeda and the Mercury Star Runner in the ring seems to be the next logical video.... Or just hold off till the Mercury is flyable.

I went with the prowler. Henc i have multiple Hercules for other missions. I still dream of landing on someone 980 jump undected. Then killing them all. Will that be a thing? Ship to ship boarding was not mentioned

Valk is full scale frontal assault. Prowler is covert ops. Impossible to say what will be more useful in the future.

Great video, would be useful to know how flight characteristics compare (particularly climb rates). Drag race with a friend? (since stats are unreliable)

I figured you would have compared the prowler to the hoplite... but i see comparing it as a pure drop ship.. I really love the solid exterior and how the view of the pilot ‘opens’ and ‘closes’. Very unique... p.s. I want one ;)

I've always considered the prowler to be uses for spec ops, small fireteam insertion and target extraction for a few

As a single pilot ship, the Prowler hands down. I could take this ship in with its high dps firepower, scan the area at an extremely long range, and maneuver about unseen. But I'll always know where they are. As a troop carrier, if your intention is stealth, getting in and out unseen. Then hands down its the Prowler. If pure support transport and you've got a crew to man those extra guns, then the Valkyrie. The thing with the Prowler is that it can be piloted by one. The Valkyrie needs to be crewed to be effective. I choose the Prowler mainly because of its solo capabilities. Its got great guns off the bat for dogfighting. I pretty much blow through claim jumper missions with ease.

I noticed that on NPC bounty missions, Valkyries seem to be a fairly common pirate tango. No experience against a Prowler. Probably too new to be implemented.

Prowler might be really good for crime and piracy related game play once NPCs cops have to detect ships using signatures.

You are right, the Valk is the better value as it can do more with cargo, vehicle, more troops. It mostly lacks the pilot firepower and shielding of the Prowler.

I like everything on the Valkyrie except the lower turret. I feel that it is super vulnerable to crushing during a hard landing and reduces its ability to land on uneven surfaces.

The one big advantage the Prowler has if you are the only one available for an extraction. Since the Prowler can be fully controlled fro the pilot seat you don’t need to wait for extra crewmen to jump on and man the turrets. I don’t like the fact that you can’t enter either of the ships from the side doors, only the back ramps. And if you need to get out of Dodge fast I would want the wider door of the Valkyrie to run or drive up. One body on the Prowler and you are limited to body dragging speeds. Another way to look at it. The Army and Marines would use the Valkyrie, the Seals would use the Prowler.
