This episode is all about the 5 to Install Aluminum Windows in a Tiny Shipping Container House. In this episode we are going to talk about the first 3 steps.
This video contains:
Step 1: Preparing the steel frames
Step 2: Cutting the openings
Step 3: Welding the frames on place
The second part of this video will contain:
Step 4: Preparing and painting the steel frames
Step 5: Installing the Aluminum windows and doors.
If you like small living spaces and shipping container architecture this channel is for you.

Etapa 2: Cortando as aberturas
Etapa 3: Soldando as molduras no lugar
A segunda parte deste episódio terá:

In welding we call that bit of grinding for better penetration "beveling" it is essential for structural integrity.

One suggested way to prevent the walls from warping is to weld 2 square tubings to the post and tack weld them to the walls , so when you cut off a section it will maintain its shape. Yeah I've had issues with that before when my fathers company does container repair work. great job :) Im enjoying watching all these videos of yours.

Man, your shipping container house is going to be a perfect place to relax when your back in town visiting your parents. I bet your back door deck will be awesome. I would build a hot tub to relax in at night. That gap between the top of the shipping container and your roof deck should have some type of screen to keep the birds and bee's from living in there. I would think that after living and traveling on your boat that you might want to retire out in the islands and build another home out there. I'm thinking somewhere in the Caribbean. That's what I would do anyways.

A dented container is always going to have more residual stress in the walls than a new container. Tacking on some stiffeners (inside) around the window cutout before cutting should make life easier - fit one window at a time. Remove the stiffeners and re use - start with the longest windows first. After fitting the frame and cleaning up the edges, paint with a weld through primer so no bare metal. No need to weld the inside - use autograde seam sealer. No need to fully weld the underside IF you add a drip guide to the sides so water will never get there - then use the sealer inside and out side. Cheers - from NZ

Great work! Do you know about flux core welding wire? No gas required! Or you can you gas and flux core together. Great for indoor/outdoor windy welding.
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 6 лет назад
+Fitness Devolution I read something about it but most of the people say the quality of the weld is not as good, the one with gas you get a cleaner weld. So we decided to go with the gas. 👌🏼
@fitnessdevolution
@fitnessdevolution 6 лет назад
Odd Life Crafting the weld is good and only requires a little brushing to remove flux residue. Most outdoors welders use it, some people use nothing else and get great results.

Odd Life Crafting yes the flux core eliminates problems with the wind blowing your shield gas away. It seems you grind your welds so you don't need perfect appearance anyway.

Love the projects. Im obviously not watching these in order. :D However, what I have gathered from All shipping container videos is that once you cut walls/windows out does that effect the integrity of the shipping container? Are you having any issues with the structure after completing the tasks?

The thing about welding vertical....on thin material like this you always weld DOWN HILL, much much faster and will look great. The only time you mig weld uphill is in high strength structural applications. It is very difficult to do even for professionals. More wasted time.
@OddLifeCrafting

Someone told the same thing this week. I think I actually should have more amperage and them I think would be better to go downhill. Well as you said before I do need more experience hehehehe. I did what I could but in the end even though it costed more we are really satisfied with the results and the learning.

When using the cutting disc on the grinder, first thing is throw away the handle. Then score your line the whole length, dont try and cut all the way through. Score it back and forth until the metal gets thin and the blade will fall though on its own. You will go through afr less blades this way...another huge waste of money

The other thing I forgot to mention is the as a new amateur welder I was afraid one of my welds fail. But I do understand what you mean. One thing I’m sure. In the end it will cost more than if we had experience. I guess that’s the cost of doing something for the first time.
