Can you tell me what happens when we get the dogs to honolulu? Do we get to stay with them or do they swoop in and take them? I have a rescue that just panics and acts feral due to fear of strangers and I am worried they wont be able to handle him at the quarantine station because he is going to freak out of them
If you have followed every single step on their checklist for airport release then they are just going to scan the dog for the microchip. If you have not finished every single requirement then yes they will take them. 😔 It also depends on the size of your dog. The airline may require they fly in cargo like mine did. And you don’t get to see them on you drop them off. When their plane lands the Hawaii authorities will start their process on the dog. If your dog freaks out this is a conversation to have with the vet and I would contact the Hawaii Quarantine station. Best of luck!
When I left Colorado to Hawaii I did not take my dog Koda with me. Instead we gave him to my speech teacher from school. We also did not take Harry or Quincy who were my 2 cats in Colorado either. My uncle took Care of Quincy when he was alive.A woman took Harry as her cat. We also had a cat named Artus but he and Quincy got out one day and ran off. We got Quincy back but Artus never came back to us. We did adopted my dog Henry when we were in Hawaii. We got him in August 2006 right after we got the news that my Dad had to leave for Iraq and back then I was afraid of dogs. I was 9 years old when we adopted him and I had him for 13 years and I did take Henry to Maryland with me when me and my parents left for Fort Meade in June 2009. We also take to the Henry Fort Meade Family Pet Care Center when we first arrived to Maryland before we had our house at Allsworth Ct,court as well when we went to New York the first time in November 2009. After that Henry would also stay at the Pet Smart on Snowden river parkway whenever we went out of town when we went to New york in April 2015 and when me and my parents went to California for Christmas in December 2011 and December 2015. We also had our friend Mariana watch him too when he got too old to got the kennel when we left for Kalahari in January 2019. Although Henry hated it when we traveled. However My current dog Ginger does not mind going to the Kennel. She went to Pet smart for the first time in October 2021 when we went to visit my grandparents in Oklahoma. Also My grandparents Dog Buddy was also very naughty when he was in Kennel when he was younger up to the point where whenever my grandparents had to go out of town they had to take Buddy with them in their rv or they have to my aunt and uncle to watch him and one time Buddy brought home fleas from my aunt and uncle house when they lived in California.
My parents made the choice to give up our family dogs, Rusty and Blondie. We bawled sooo hard. Still to this day, I've never seen two dogs that look exactly like them. Just mutts. Going from Oklahoma to Hawaii '79-'82, quarantine process was quite different.
Oh yeah! I feel very grateful and privileged to be stationed here. It's like winning the lottery. I also grew up as navy brat and my entire childhood we moved back and forth between California, Virginia, and Maine. Never stepped outside of the 48. My girls have no idea how lucky we are. Yes I did! I did all the work between scheduling vet appointments, following up on all the tests, to submitting all the paperwork to Hawaii and the airline, and bringing them to the airport and checking them in.
Apparently it still is a pretty expensive lengthy process 😢😢 As much as we loved our girls, they just couldn't come up with the money and info to do it. 😭
WOW!!! Fantastic video and break down. I am moving in two months and finished all my paper processes. I have 3 English Staffordshire Bull terriers... two dogs have digital signatures!!! I hope I am not screwed. Am looking at a third party carrier. Any recommendations? Thankyou!!!
Do you mean something like island pet movers? I didn’t use them myself but there were a few other families that hired third parties to help. I ended up just doing everything myself and shipping them through Alaska Airlines even though the army booked our flight on American. It worked out well. But was the most stressful part about the whole move!! If you already finished the paperwork then you are 80% through the process!
@@theWiggyFamily Yes and you are correct. My partner - unfortunately- had a nervous breakdown- said he couldn’t handle bringing the three dogs to the airport by himself- so I ended up hiring pet island movers. Really really expensive and I cannot afford it. But my partner has physical health problems so he cannot have any stress so I had no choice. The expense for 3 staffies is enormous- as much as the move itself. Yes- you are correct -. Besides the health certificate appointment and taking them to the airport it was done. Really frustrating experience to have your partner back out at the last end of the mission!

The military just changed its policy in January. They will reimburse you for one dog up to $2000 for oconus. Keep all your receipts. And keep in mind. It’s only for one dog. Hope that helps!
