I never knew much about Shirley Jones the first movie 1956 carousel by Oscar Hammerstein but I love any movie that is musical I'm 52 and watching all these movies with legends like Ms Jones greetings from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I am late to the party here, but I'll add my thoughts. I am 72 and when I was a kid back in the late 1950's, I would sit down in front of our record player and listen to Oklahoma and South Pacific for hours. I always thought, and still do, that Shirley Jones had one of the cleanest and purest singing voices I have ever heard. Even to this day, I get goose bumps when I hear her sing those incredible songs. Thank you, Shirley Jones...!!!

Shes one of the last true hollywood icons left. Classy lady, very confident loving lady. Her boys were so lucky to have had her as a mother. And David too for knowing her even tho she was his step mother. Beautiful lady thru and thru

In the fall of 99, I was flying back and forth from Norfolk, VA to Jax, Fl seemingly every weekend. One Friday evening in Norfolk, I was walking down the concourse to my gate. There was only me and walking toward me, alone, came Shirley. Not wanting to embarrass her ... or me ... I confirmed it was her by whistling aloud the first several notes from "Oklahoma." She smiled as we passed, we both took a brief look over our shoulders, exchanged smiles and went on our way. I had heard she was going to be in town for the weekend performing in a musical. The one thing that astounded me to this very day ... why was someone of her stature, walking alone in the Norfolk Airport concourse? I, like millions of others, have adored this woman for decades ... and there she was walking alone in the Norfolk airport to where I can only assume, was baggage claim. Sharing the concourse with her was enough for me. Love ya Shirley!

Being brought up in the South, film musicals were as close to Broadway as I could get. I'm thankful that Rodgers and Hammerstein adapted their musicals to to screen. I adore this woman. ♥
My first memory of Shirley Jones was her role in Oklahoma. She is probably my favorite Broadway actress of all time. Incredible voice and a truly beautiful woman.

I'm from Pittsburgh most of my life. All of my family is from and around Pittsburgh too. Shirley Jones's aunt lived directly across the street from my grandmother back in the late 60's and 70's. I don't remember her aunts name though. I cant even remember the address or town. I was just a kid and I was not impressed back then. My sister was though. This is weird, when ever I see Shirley, it brings back memories of my past as a kid with my family at grandmas. I don't remember ever meeting Shirley's aunt but I know my grandmother has.
Shirley Jones was perfect as Laurie in Oklahoma and as Julie in Carousel. Interesting that Oklahoma was not filmed in Oklahoma but in Nogales, Arizona!
Emily Malden Marty Ingels was a very self-involved neurotic man and she really kowtowed to him. Jack Cassidy was also a huge egomaniac (though very talented) and resented her fame. But Marty Ingels made her laugh.
I read in her bio, Jack tried on her nightie during their wedding night when she stepped away. I read that he was bi, but a cross dresser too! LOL, Shirley sure had a lot of patience with her men!

Very glorious down-to-earth woman, seems Shirley Jones. I understand she insisted on spending time raising her sons and taking time out of a no doubt busy, demanding movie goddess career, to do that. So inspiring. Love Shirley. So sad David has passed on now. It's lovely that he had such wonderful relationships with his biological mom Evelyn Ward and his step mom Shirley Jones. Just wish he was still here. A rare talent, which we wouldn't have been aware of as such young fans (13 yrs old at the time). He was my first crush. I'm 60 now! LOL. I believe it's "Schirmer" -- not "Shermer" as shown above. Schirmer is/was one of the great music publishing cos. in the USA, found in the 1860's. Apparently Shirley's first agent "Gus" was a member of the Schirmer music publishing family.
Her description in her biography of the ménage a trois she had with her husband Jack Cassidy and a Vegas show girl shows another side of this classy lady.
