She gave so many of us the CAN DO attitude in the 70's and carried me through to today. I used to drive my boyfriends car at OCIR in Irvine.. some of you remember that awesome drag strip! and ..... Love that Shirley!
I sure miss the 70's especially because drag racing was much better back in the day. The cars were nicer, who cares if they weren't as fast as now? Today the horse power is too high and I don't think a dragster or funny car is going to go any faster than they do right now! Shirley was the greatest. I love how she made the boys so jealous and in love with her at the same time because this girl brought so much drama into the sport just by being there. Shirley was hot for more reasons than one and no other girl in NHRA will ever come close to her!
A very brave brave woman I saw her race I personally talked to her. The men she raced did not like her because she beat them. They didn't like getting beat by a woman so they would say that there cas were not running right she also paid the price with some bad accidents I love that woman 👍🇺🇸🌹
indeed if it was not for her there would be no women drivers, there would be no Ashley, Brittany, and Courtney, and there would be no Team Force she paved the way for them to get their wins.
Shirley Muldowney where would the women of the NHRA be without her? She got the sport going and taught countless women how to race. If it was not for Shirley Muldowney there would be no women racers, there would be no Ashley, Brittany, and Courtney, and there would be no Team Force she is the one who started it all.
In 1973ish we rode our bikes down to see who we could she and we saw her with her funny car. The motels at Valwood and 35 in Texas. She was racing at the Dallas Motor Speedway. 1973 was right before we got our drivers licenses.
My buddy and I were at Renegade Raceway in 76, joking with Shirley and Connie about how fast his dad’s javelin was. She challenged us to a race: the two of us vs her and Connie in their crew truck(!) Dee ( track owner) knew better, but let us make a run after the night’s events….she blew our doors off! What an honor! So, I think that you statement is in error.
IS THIS REALLY RACING????? Sorry i don't mean to rub my American friends up the wrong way, but Drag seems to IN straight line and over inside ten seconds. Where i come from in Europe that's a bit DILUTED to say the least. Like MOST of American racing seems to be IN A CIRCLE. Now i've watched some NASCAR races and i admire the way they do sometimes 300 laps, that's very hard work and very gruelling.....but it's still IN A CIRCLE, ...for most where I come from that would still be a bit DILUTED. But i guess America's entitled to their ways. But don;t have anything with CORNERS in it. I know there's a lot of U.S. tracks with corners, and you used to have ALMS which was fun....SORRY, but from my side of the pond it just seems a bit strange. Nuff said.
If you ever get the chance to witness two eleven thousand horsepower fuelers in person you will understand. You really do have to be there. Try Santa pod raceway on your side of the pond.
There is an art and finesse to drag racing. You don't even need to line up next to an opponent to do it - you're racing against the clock, either way. If your timing is off, if you miss a shift, are too heavy or light on the throttle, etc, you lose. The difference between first place and loss could be a matter of thousandths of a second. It's intense. The rush I get when I stage deep and run a 1/4 mile in a matter of a couple of seconds is second to none. I highly recommend trying it out. It's a test of pure skill. Some have it, most don't.
Watch her interview starting at the 4 minute mark. Things like this is why she was not well liked, and is still not well liked. She was just a classless person...
