As a kid in the 70’s my Dad turned me on to drag racing. In my 50’s now and still watch the races. Shirley and Don The Snake by far are my all time favorite drivers.

Wow very similar story for me. I am also in my 50s now. My father would take me to the Spring nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The coolest thing I ever saw as a kid was Shirley Muldowney and big daddy, Dan Garlits going head to head. These two were my favorites. The Snake was awesome as well!

Shirley's awesome. I met her at a NHRA points meet in Medford, Oregon, back in the 80's. Really nice person, and she could drive the paint of that fueler!

I finally got to see Shirley race at the '87 Finals in Pomona. While cruising the pits I spotted her and my jaw dropped at the sight of this bigger than life legend. She noticed me and then parroted me with a jaw drop of her own. How funny, and embarrassing! I'll never forget that moment.

I remember seeing Shirley race, against Connie too, a number of times at Raceway Park in Englishtown in the mid to late '70s.

From what I've seen she isn't very friendly to anyone. I love drag racing but don't care much for Muldowney.

I've never been a Muldowney fan and I watched her race in the 60's. I was more of a Shirley Shahan, Drag-On Lady, fan. Check out the article on her at www.nhra.com/blog/blog.aspx?BlogAlias=dragster-insider&BlogPostYear=2008&BlogPostMonth=04&BlogPostDay=30&BlogPostAlias=28567&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Comes off to me as a Very bitter person in a lot of ways. She really got jealous when Lori Johns, Shelly Anderson come out and ran well. And it was then that she was struggling financially - so anytime people asked her in the press about the new women racing - she snapped back and turned it around with snide and bitter comments. She still even does it today regarding the force girls Leah Pritchett, Pruitt, DeJoria etc. She obviously has a problem with people stepping into one of these cars with the proper resources and doing really well very quickly; instead of starting off at the bottom and paying their dues so to speak with nothing. I think her bitterness towards Kalitta also is money related and ultimately, jealousy.
