Karpov Liam not to bright about info from where you dwell? yup, because I don't care. I assumed and it was wrong. see what happens when you assume? don't believe everything you see on Facebook kid, now move along.
This song popped in my head at work today out of nowhere, my mom use to sing it to us when me and my brother were younger, idk why that childhood memory came to me today, and I remembered the lyrics to look it up and after all these years I didn’t know this is where she got it from, amazing.
My Dad used to sing it to us as well❤ Plus he used to sing "Hello Mother,Hello Mother, here I am at Camp Granada",that used to make us laugh. Sounds as though your Mum was/is lovely. It's great we have wonderful memories❤🙏
And I'm throwing away all my toys.....I find it very sad. What these children stars go through and really always have just so we can be entertained :( that being said I used to watch them as a child, but it's very different now if I do. Back in the heyday of hollywood, of course nothing would be mentioned of something such as this
The sexual subtext was not lost on audiences of the 1930s. There were plenty of people who criticized the Shirley Temple phenomenon, especially Graham Greene. In 1937 he wrote that Temple played deliberately to "a public of licentious old men, ready to enjoy the fine flavour of such an unripe, charming little creature." Don't allow nostalgics and atavistic freaks to convince you that this time period was any more moral, just, or worthy than any other era, including our own.
Captain Ramen - Shirley Temple was terribly exploited. It is hard to enjoy a child singing when you know that terrible things were being done to her in order to make her sing so well.
@@isrulius Have you ever watch her other movie especially Baby Burlesk? The innuendo of pedophilia is strong in there. Even Shirley herself did an interview on how people back then exploit child innocence and how they punished the children actor/actress if they 'misbehaved'.
Shirley's signature song from her twelfth feature film, Bright Eyes. It complemented her work in other films in 1934 that she did, including, Baby, Take a Bow, Stand Up and Cheer!, and Little Miss Marker, among others. Thank you for presenting the above video clip.
Shirley looks really uncomfortable in this scene. I want to go in and teach those men a lesson. Edit: The last part of my comment seems unlike me now. Four years later looking back, I'm like, "Maybe some were pervs, but not all. They were doing what the director wanted. Besides, the actor she sits on was someone she trusted in real life."
They were actors you idiot! Don't get me wrong, there are some scenes in a few of her films that are just very disturbing to watch but the whole scene in this song was not one of them. Don't try to make everything that she's in was grotesque in nature and should be condemned. We have to learn to recognize the line between what's okay and not okay. I have to say in Shirley's case, that line is very thin.
I showed this clip to my mother-in-law Cleo recently. Cleo is the same age as Shirley Temple and a huge classic film fan. Unfortunately, Cleo is compromised from a stroke, and suffers from dementia and memory loss. In spite of her limitations, she sang along with this video and knew every word. The mind is an amazing thing.
Mark zxz then get on board and look at what's actually happening. Go look at the documentary made on her...there's the burlesque mini movie she was in where she was dressed in prostitute burlesque attire and was dancing like they do... It's already been proven that she was abused on set.
A burlesque is simply a parody, and people say "dressed as a prostitute" for anything skimpy which for a little girl is not unusual. My sisters when very little apparently "dressed as prostitutes too.
BOO KAPONE BROUGHT ME HERE TALKING BOUT PATT I MADE BEATS FOR KRAIG SMITH SKITS BIG JAHH WAS IN ONE ON EM TO MUCH LOVE TO ALL THE PPL THAT KNOW GOOD COMEDY THIS SHIT FUNNY
In real life the man who takes her into his lap was one she trusted and felt comfortable around. He was one that actually wasn't creepy, regardless of whatever the director made him do on camera. I believe his name was James Dunn?? And no, he's her on-screen father, not real one.
Michelle Bitch how are you unable to comprehend this movie is from the 1940’s? It’s meant to be portrayed as a wholesome kid’s film featuring a girl on a plane with a bunch if war time men singing a song with her. They aren’t touching her sexually, they aren’t saying anything sexual, literally the only thing sexual about this is the way YOU perceive it because of your modern day overly sexualized perception. If the first thing you think about when you see a little girl with a group of men is pedophilia then that is a YOU problem, not an issue with the film. This movie has existed for more than half a century and literally no other generation than this one has ever complained about it. Know why? Because our generation has had sex shoved down our throats in every form of media that we tend to always see things in a sexualized light, past generations did not. I really hope this makes sense to you now because if it doesn’t you truly are a simpleton.
sick short skirt, she pulls it down, dont you see? this child is pressed to play and sing something she doest truly understand, with a bunch of elder men touching and grasping her. not to menntion the symbolism of the lyrics. and no, I'm not twisted. Its just if you know what happens in Hollywood circles with children from then till nowadays
Shania Caines Tina Tally its legit a bunch of 20-30 year old men touching a four year old girl all over. These films were putting kids in grown up positions, so if that was an older woman in Shirley’s spot it would be seen as sexualized.
Jacob Thornlow Well, if you took the time to understand the lyrics, you would know that the men are her crew in her candyland fantasy. They are supposed to be helping her run her candy ship. But, no, no, let's assume that a) little girls are not imaginative b) all the mens are pedophiles. LOL. This comments section is full of boneheads.
OMG watching this 25 years later as an adult, they were definitely sexualizing children' and exploiting them, this is sick!! Look up the info and researches done on these videos.
To those who think a little girl being passed around and touched all over by grown men is innocent. Would you still feel the same if it was YOUR daughter??
She said there was one incident where a producer flashed her in his office, but she never said any of the cast or crew of her movies came onto her or made her uncomfortable.
8DFahren Are you people really that dense you’re not able to understand what i’m saying? No, of course it’s not, however we live in a time where sex is constantly thrown in our faces by mass media. It wasn’t like that back then, those times were innocent. Of course pedos existed, but it was a rarity, and the majority of the public didn’t look at something and immediately see sex. You’re watching something from a different era with a modern day outlook. Thats absurd. These types of movies were wholesome and this scene depicts nothing more than a bunch of fatherly type men doting over a sweet little girl and singing with her. It really goes to show how far we’ve fallen as a society that all you perverts see this and your first thought is pedophilia. That shows theres a problem with you, not the movie.
Considering how talented Shirley Temple was, and the time in which she grew up, it's a M - I - R - A - C - L - E she grew up to be a compassionate, decent, giving, and kind human being, better know in later years for her wonderful parenting, and volunteerism, particularly with Veterans. Her supreme talent should be viewed with the periscope of that - the lens of talent - and we should dissuade ourselves from focusing on those that surround her, as uncomfortable as they may make us feel.
Abused people are loving, they learn others didn't love them the way they should have. I think there comes a time when you decide not to let others change your heart. It is not a Miraculous thing that Shirley kept a good heart. I'm grateful she did.
@@lisasillence7887 Not all abused people are loving. Many go out into the world to abuse others. It is a complex issue, like the abuse perpetrators, and victims, and a one size fits all, and blanket statements oversimplify a complex, multi faceted issue.
@@AriannaAyers As someone that was abused by someone who was also abused.. yes, it is multi-faceted but I don't see how you can be on those grown men's side instead of Shirley's. She was a child and they were grown men
@@beausmom2317 I am on Shirley Temple’s side, of course, as a child or not, for any person that survived abuse of any kind. We must stand strong with the survivours.
Straitsfan she admitted to being abused. Of course watching these growing up we never see anything wrong with it but now that we know the story of her childhood it makes you sick to your fucking stomach. WAKE UP!
I remember when my mom would sing this to me when I was a little kid. She just passed away a couple of months ago. Thanks for posting this, it brought back some great memories hearing it.
This little girl stole the hearts and help take the depression off peoples minds . Back then the world was very small , heck there wasn't even TV then .
In the theater in those days they were 2 theaters every 2 block in the cities . Radio ruled in homes back then . These films were made during WW-2 and it took the minds off the dread of life with films like these.
Idk..scene just didn't look right.. she's just a baby..her dress all short in the back..just look like she was made to appeal to a disturbing audience..
It was the style back then, and in the 1960s short dresses for little girls came back in style. Predators do not target children because of how they are dressed, FYI.
@@clp3502 I think they may technically be bloomers. However, for younger girls they kind of had "dual citizenship", while they were technically a form of underpants, on younger girls it was often expected that they'd be seen, effectively making them fancy shorts. Little Lulu is also a product of that era, and her usual style of dress shows it.
Kait Sith you said it. It's the 1930s it was they're trend... and it was short because she was 6 and it looked cute and back then there was no dirty minded freaks
Her dress is short because back then, Pedophilia was less apparent in media. Sure it still existed, but it was not as openly discussed about. There were things considered voodoo that were not to be talked about, This lead to misinformation which confused Homosexuality with Pedophilia. It was a common misinformed idea that if someone was Homosexual, they were attracted to children of the same sex. Cost was another form, In the 1930s during the depression, it was cheaper for shorter dress's thus less fabric. Not to mention Practicality, Childrens cloths were designed for durability being as they would be outside a lot. Climbing tress and other things. It is clear that cloths now just focus on durability. Ever try climbing a tree with jeans? Much more difficult than climbing with shorts.
@@donkeykong6669 lol do you not actually know her history? She was abused alot back then. Why don't you look into it before telling everyone to enjoy this disturbing scene
@@Sukiv4 Yes you're right about that but these were actors who I'm pretty sure all dead by now. So I don't think it is right to assume them as predators just because they were in this movie and doing this scene. With that said, we have to learn to differentiate between disturbing and innocent scenes in her movies.
She was and still is a national treasure for all she was then, and what she did after Hollywood. A precious chubby-legged doll who got America through some of the hardest times in history.
We all knew Shirley would grow up and go on with her life that has been wonderful from beginning to end. Our dear SHirley passed away peacefully in her home with her loved ones by her side last night of natural causes, Monday, February 11 th/ 2014 . I just thank God she was a true dedicated born again Christian;- so that some day when it's my turn to leave this earth I'll meet her in Heaven.
EsotericOccultist Uh no you fucking dumbass, this isn't about sexism against men. If you watch the documentary on Shirley Temple, you'll know that there were actual pedophile scenes. And yes this just so happens to be a scene where a little female toddler surrounded by all men stare, manhandle and touch her in this scene. This IS disturbing. This girl in the clip admitted things herself when she became an adult.
You need to see the whole film and not just one scene and take everything out of context!!! jesus what is wrong with people these days, seeing things that they want to see making it out to be a totally weird and creepy film and its not. Its a film and they are actors, its not real!!!
not for me cause its my fav song science i was 4 years old now I finally found it back haven heard this for 4 years no.Now I'm 11 I love this song forever and ever
My grandmother loved these films, so I grew up watching them. I didn’t realize anything was wrong, I was always told this was “cute” and “adorable”… now that I’m older and understand, it is very unsettling. It breaks my heart that she had to go through that.
No, you literally can not lol she was fine. She was wearing short shorts under her dress. You choose to see it as creepy because you're looking at it through a lense and confirmation bias that you already have.
@@MrShenanigans28I knew nothing about her and saw a clip of this video and immediately thought it seemed creepy even though the video i saw wasn't framing it that way at all
I watched this when I was little (along with CD's that had old mini cartoons, and He-Man) and always remembered this one song. So I looked it up. It's so sad seeing how she was handled and seeing the scene again.
So first time I'm see this, and right away this appears to be a show for grown men, and the performer is a little girl. Right. This is f'ing nuts! But its all coming out!!! THE GREAT AWAKENING
R.I.P Shirley Temple Black ! You were the most famous and richest child star who ever lived and brought delight, joy , tears and laughter to millions. One of my all time favorite stars I used to wish I could've danced and sang like you as a child. And ofcourse I wished I had that fabulous mop of pretty golden curls ! I hope your in heaven singing Lollipop before God and the angels.
***** What does ' hey ' mean ? This was the best child actress that ever lived during the most difficult times in society; and regardless of depression days and war: was the one that brought great joy in the lives of others. Far from a spoiled Hollywood brat, she gave hundreds upon hundreds of her gifts away to children whose parents could barely afford to put decent meals on the table. When interviewed she spoke with respect but was still a child and would make so many reporters laugh as well as movie producers such as Walt Disney, Presidents and other political figures all over the world. There will never be another child actor such as she was because she was so genuine. ' hey ' doesn't exactly show any respect for her legacy left behind nor for her family that loved her or friends; as well as those of us that grew up two generations after her movies were made; enjoying them. Nobody looks worse then a person who places even one word of disrespect on RU-vid:- then the one who placed it.
You sound like you've got a pen of pigs. NO CLASS at all. Just the kind of so called mam; women despise unless they're hard up and want to have you in their presence! Now, do you really think you have that much s control over any decent women as to allow a pig like you bother them by your ignorant childish comments? Don't bother replying because personally I'm glad I know what a REAL MAN behaves like ! Do us all a favour, just stay off of any social sites until you grow up.
In 1:53 1:54 1:55 you guys can see when she wants to move but the guy grabbed her little arm so hard to stay . She looks like she doesn’t want to be there and the guys looks really serious and grabbed her arm to stay 😭
darling i think your taking it too far. this is a video their trying to get it right. he didnt hold her that tight it didnt even shift her dress that much but he could have been signaling dont walk forward just yet. yes sherley went through alot of sexual harrassment of sorts but in this particular case i feel their just trying to make a video and what makes a little girl look smaller and stand out more than tall men.
My heart really goes out to her. She was such a sweet innocent young girl. They shouldn't have done these horrible things to her. Nobody should ever get sexually abuse anyone on this planet, ever...
There is nothing sexual about this scene. It revolves about her singing about candy in a room full of pilots, since they were pilots, that is why you do not see woman since it was a period of time where woman weren't pilots or at least not as common. They only touch her so they could hold her up, not anything else. Notice they grab her up from the upper back and chest area, that is how multiple people hold up someone. Also, girls don't have boobs at that age (I believe shes 5) they aren't grabbing anything that doesn't exist yet, they are just holding her up.
Shirley Temple: Hollywood is run by pedophiles and Shirley was just another victim. There are people in these comments who call things like this “innocent” and say it’s not perverted at all. Go read Shirley Temple’s autobiography and watch a documentary on what went on when the cameras were off. Search “Shirley temple disturbing history” and watch that mini documentary and let’s see if you have the heart to say it was all just innocent and fun. Shirley temple admits herself that she was abused during her childhood by many of the actors and producers she worked with. They made her work long hours without break, and if she messed up or misbehaved, they placed her in a tight box with nothing in it but ice. She sat in there and froze all because she acted like the child she was or made a mistake. She was forced to work and act no matter what. Even when she was sick, hurt, stressed, etc. They even made her work a day after she had surgery on her ears! If a scene called for her to cry, the director would tell her that her mom got kidnapped and murdered, or some other equally scary shit. She would begin to cry and cameras would start rolling. Shirley Temple also admits that she got married to a man when she was 17 for the sole purpose of lessening the men who were sexually harassing her and trying to get with her. She talks about times when grown men would try to seduce her, chase her, etc. all while she was a kid! She even had a man expose himself to her. The man she married turned out to be a mistake and she was depressed, suicidal, and lonely. She got divorced after being abused and mistreated by him for many years. Shirley Temple acknowledged that what she was made to do in front of a camera was inappropriate, disturbing, and exploitive. I know we want the world to be innocent and think this is just a fun little film, but it’s time to realize that childhood abuse is terrifyingly common and for every four children, there is one who has experienced abuse. We can’t sweep pedophilia and perversion under the rug. We need to realize it’s happening and not ignore it!
@@shirleytemple5658there’s literally a movie where she was this old, kissing a grown man on the lips. Hollywood is run by pedo, they’re not going to do a movie showing a man having sex a kid, but they’re will try to show her all the time as a cute intelligent girl who knows how to talk, act and behave like and adult. This is not normal
This brought me to tears. My grandma used to sing this to me to get me to go to sleep whenever I would visit. Now she doesn't sing this to me when I visit. It makes me sad. She's getting Alzheimer's and forgetting stuff. Mostly short term memory, but some long term. Like this song. Sometimes she can remember it, others she can't.
gamingwithvee Things were innocent back then you idiot, this type of shit didn’t even cross their minds. You ever think maybe you’re the perverted one?
@@nileyfan1998 She wasn't abused though in those days. I only remember her saying someone exposed himself to her when she was a young teenager. It's very awful what happened to her and it shouldn't have happened. However, it's not like she was abused by a lot of men she worked with in the industry.
Little Shirley Temple was a sweet precious little child. And I will always admire her for all of the hard work she's done to entertain America and to represent and care for our country .
Statically it's impossible all those men in the film were pedophiles. Not all men are pedophiles, I'm sure a few of those men are thinking that she is adorable. That being said, the whole scene really should never have been done, a tiny child being grabbed and handled by that many men is just uncomfortable.
Yea if she was older and other woman where singing with her then it could pull off as a very musical theatre/ broadway dance but she’s young the only girl it just...it didn’t age well
😭 my mom passed a year ago. Growing up in the eighties she know I love Shirley Temple she was so girly and cute and cute with her dresses and her beautiful girls singing singing and dancing everywhere everybody loved her.. I put it up today just to reminisce about my mom and now I see there was molested in Shirley Temple Listen to the words with the actions and her songs she didn't want to be there touched by those men she wasn't happy doing that stuff that they made or do. #SpeakToText #DontComingAtMePlease #NowThatImCallingIC
Y'all criticising, but nothing bad happened on set, maybe you cringed, I understand. But bro, can we just put all negativities aside and appreciate this work of art? She's the cutest.
Read the book he wrote where he said that it was normal to receive sexual abuse on set. He also looks for videos about his life. I can even give you photos of her in sexual poses with men, and they made her act like a prostitute several times. Also in many scenes of kissing men
@Kimberlee Ponson While i don't believe that that move was sexual, and it is likely that they are just actors, in Shirley Temples autobiography she told many stories about the emotional and sexual abuse that she suffered as a child actress.
@@isrulius Re: the Shirley Temple clip go back to RU-vid and type in Baby Burlesque and watch the first one ever of Shirley Temple. Then tell me how innocent Hollywood was back then.
I just got recommended a video about her in RU-vid and watch it... I felt sad of her experience in Hollywood it kinda reminds me of Marilyn Monroe too 😭 RIP to them both
Yes, this was a completely different time and we are judging it by today’s standards, which is not fair. However, let’s not pretend like child exploitation and pedophilia did not exist back then either. It just wasn’t discussed as openly as it is now, among many other things. This video is creepy though, lol, but it was probably perfectly normal to an audience of its time.
@@emusaurus Audience of that time have literally talked about how awkward it was back then. Nobody was looking for problem, the problem presented itself. get away from children.
It's not because at the time pedophile overtones were more tolerated in certain circles that it was not a problem for the children thus exploited. Judging past events with current knowledge of systems of abuse and domination: I really don't see where the problem is! It's quite healthy!! :)
Wow, this brings me back to when I was 6. I had a record that had Shirley Temple songs on it. I loved hearing this song. She was such a wonderful, beautiful, talented lady.
Shirley temples who role was to have a short dress and be touched on, the shorts were meant to be shown, not in a wholesome way. She was a child actress that reacted a lot of porn, you don't need to say it wasn't right because even the people that made this knew it was right, including her dad. He allowed all of it to continue to happen.
Its James Dunn not her dad but quite a famous actor at the time. At this time she had worked with him before like in the song "baby take a bow". I think I remember Shirley mentioning him in an interview once. I think if Dunn had abused her or done anything wrong or inappropriate she wouldn't be bringing him up. I hope he hasn't though otherwise this clip would be creepy and kind of sad.
The song I mentioned is from the movie called "Stand up and Cheer". I also found someone saying that Shirley Temple remembered falling in love with James Dunn and wanting to marry him! In a cute way of course. So most likely nothing wrong went on between them.
You know what GOOD SHIP LOLLIPOP means, right? LOLLIPOP = Nope, not your ordinary candy. . . If you ate too much. Last part Shirley Temple rocking movement. With men.
