Episode 5
Namaste
Greetings from Shirish and Pooja and welcome to the new episode of @RedSoilStories
"Story of Traditionally Made Shirwale ( शिरवाळे)"
Pooja's mother and brother were visiting Pooja's aunt's place, so Pooja also wanted to go there for a family union.
As I was busy with some work, Pooja decided to go there by bus, Maharashtra's favorite State Transport's ( S.T.) bus. Lovingly called as " Lal Pari" ( Red Fairy).
Pooja's brothers Pavan and Omkar came to pick her up. They all reached home and Pooja's aunt and Mother were all happy to see her after a long time.
They decided to prepare " Shirwale ani naralacha ras"
शिरवाळे आणि नारळाचा रस ( Rice noodle with sweet Coconut milk) for next day's breakfast.
Pavan ( Pooja's Brother) went to "Areca nut tree" farm to collect Areca nut leaves for next day's breakfast.
"Shirwale" (शिरवाळे) is a traditionally made "Rice Noodle" recipe often eaten with "Naralacha Ras" नारळाचा रस ( Sweet coconut Milk). It is a simple yet flavorful combination.
Next day the preparation started with Omkar ( Pooja's Cousin) making plates out of " Areca Nut tree Leaves". First step was boiling the water then kneading the rice flour in hot water and making balls of that dough and putting them back into the boiling water. Let the balls cook for 10-15 minutes until they cook well and float on the water.
Once they are cooked Pavan and aunty Strained the Rice noodles ( Shirwale) शिरवाळे on the Traditional Rice Noodle Maker which is a century old machine used on the occasions like this and some of the festivals e.g. Holi.
Pooja prepare "Naralacha Ras" नारळाचा रस ( Sweet coconut milk) by squeezing grated coconut into water then strained it through muslin cloth. Then she added turmeric powder, salt, jaggery and cardamom powder.
" Shirwale ani Naralacha Ras" शिरवाळे आणि नारळाचा रस ( Rice noodles and sweet coconut milk was ready)
I joined them for the breakfast and we enjoyed the "Shirwale" together.
