What's up, people! I'm back to finish off Tears for Fears' The Seeds of Love album (1989), so join me as we listen to "Famous Last Words" (a well-chosen title for the final song on an album before a single note is played!). I hope you enjoy the song and video! Cheers.

This song is based on the fallout of a nuclear war, the narrator sings lines like "insects and grass are all that remain" and "when the light from above burns a hole straight through our love" I love your TFF reviews and can't wait until you start another album. I've said previously Seeds Of Love is my favourite album of all time, a lot of experts choose Songs From The Big Chair as TFF's best work, and while it does have 3 of their greatest ever songs on it, I don't think it is as good as Seeds. You need to listen to Elemental as well.

'when the light from above burns a hole straight through our love,' Nuclear bomb Matt, sadly apt for 2022.

Matt once again I can't thank you enough, as big of a fan of Tears for Fears that I am this is probably one of those i would never listened to, not sure how I missed you posting this but I watched your video a few days ago and I've listened to this song probably 100 times or more lol its definitely one of my favorite songs by them, just when I think there's no way I can get blow away by another song by them I do, I've said it before that there catalog of great songs is astonishing, so again thank you for reacting to songs that were not mainstream, even there songs that were not played on the radio blow other artists/bands out of the water!

I have also heard that this song is about nuclear war, as someone already mentioned. I find myself thinking about Curt and Roland's breakup, which was imminent in 1989/90, and how that last dissonant note suggests something ominous and unresolved. After this, they split up, didn't speak to one another for 9 years, and wrote diss tracks to each other on their respective albums. Thankfully, they reunited 22 years ago and so now they've been together for far longer than the initial breakup. Of course, they've continued to have issues, what with the 'broken album' prior to 'The Tipping Point, and in 2019, they apparently stopped speaking to one another while on tour. Roland said his new wife, Emily, encouraged him to reconcile with Curt (again) in 2020, so that's how 'The Tipping Point' eventually emerged, when they were both on the same page, even doing interviews together to promote the album. In early July, before their home gig in England, they did a radio interview where they told each other they love one another on air. (Granted, the host prompted them, but they also didn't hesitate). :) They have certainly come a long way, and it's amazing to me they've known each other for 46 years. As Curt said in an interview, if being in a band is like a marriage, they are in the 'yes, dear' stage of their relationship. Anyway, here is the link to the radio interview. The sentimental stuff starts at about the 19:37 mark. soundcloud.com/user-774985138/tff_rolandcurt_radio-bath?

Thank you so much for these reviews, I’d forgotten how amazing this album was. I think this track is based on the concept of the expectation of an atomic bomb attack. “When the light from above burns a hole right through our love”. I think Roland’s vocals half way through mirror the soaring wailing sound of an air raid siren. Incredible song.

You are very welcome! Indeed, I'm out here doing what I love---talking about and enjoying music---and it makes me so happy to hear you say that. And wow, I need to re-listen to the song in light of that comment about Roland's singing! Cheers, really appreciate that insight!

If you’re a synth pop/ new wave man, “The Hurting” album is a masterpiece. The meaning behind the songs are deep and personal (based on their childhood and trauma). Also instruments are brilliant.

It’s about a nuclear holocaust. Specifically, it’s an homage to the novel On The Beach and the film of the same name, which chronicle the last remnants of humanity who have gathered in Australia while they wait for the fallout to reach them and wipe out the human race. The book and the movie are very good but also extremely depressing.

You need to react to: The Kings of Spain by "Tears For Fears", released in 1999. It is FIRE!!!
