Welcome back to the next episode in our Vanlife UK series where we are exploring England’s least visited Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This week we’re on the east coast of the country in a place we’re betting most of you have never heard of - Dedham Vale.
This tiny AONB on the border of Essex and Suffolk has us stepping back in time in an area made famous by one of England's most celebrated artists, John Constable, where the gorgeous rural scenery he depicted has remained pretty much unchanged since he painted it over two hundred years ago.
Join us as we do quintessentially English things in the most quintessential of English landscapes, and are shocked by an unexpected reaction to us being there. Why? Well you’ll just have to tune in to find out!
Catch you in the comments,
Sarah, James & Ady

I live in Manningtree and I can’t believe you guys came to see our little town! We are always at Dedham and Flatford using our paddleboards/kayaks. I’m glad you guys enjoyed the area. I just wanted to say you’re the reason my partner and I are going to begin full time van life after we get married next year, we have finally decided to take the risk and go for it! Xx

Oh wow, what a lovely message, this has literally made our week ❤️ Thank you so much. Firstly we really loved the area and Manningtree is a beautiful town, we couldn’t believe the variety in such a small place - beach, estuary, lovely high street etc, really chilled too. And people were SO friendly! Must be an amazing place to live, and with Dedham and Flatford so nearby 👌 And secondly, that’s so exciting that you’re going to go full time vanlife! We hope you love it as much as we do ❤️❤️

What a fab video people. I'm loving this series...really different. How lovely to get out on the river instead if a boating lake👍🏻. I'm a scone as in on person, and a cream first 😂

We picked it up in Ireland last year, we love all the old Guinness adverts (and Guinness of course) and it’s just a lovely little reminder of one of our favourite places in the world 🇮🇪❤️

Salted caramel, yum. Scone (loan) jam first :).Horsey Gap if you are Norfolk way. (Oh. Maybe not if going to London. The most seals you will ever see. Amazing. Many a time spent at Cranborne Chase, beautiful. Enjoy x

Great you got to take a canoe out on the river and have Ady helping! 😉 I have two favorite ice cream flavors black raspberry and pistachio. I'm with Sarah on the scone and I agree clotted cream and then jam. Looks like an absolutely gorgeous place and a very relaxing place.
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing Год назад
Yeah Ady loved it, her first time on a row boat 😀 Never even heard of black raspberry but that sounds delicious! We’ll keep our eyes out for that. Pistachio is possibly my (J) fave as well 🙌 We did really enjoy it here, beautiful part of the country ❤️

Thanks, glad you’re enjoying it! You’re living in an awesome area! We’ve loved Cranborne Chase, quite different to the other AONBs we’ve visited too. Have you explored it much in your van? I guess you might tend to go further afield?

I'm with Sarah on the scone front. It's a scone not a scon (Jay)😂 Stone/Scone. If you asked me for a Scon I wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about.😅 Love the video guys, ye are amazing and Ady is so cute and growing so fast 😊

Plain scones!! Nothing on it. Sometimes a nut of butter 😂 but I know it's shocking. As much as a croissant served with butter and jam 😅

Hari Om A Oh be still my beating 💓, Ady learning to row just as I did near 60 years ago 😂 gal after my own self. Anyway, having spent many early years around Woodbridge and surrounds it was a joy to watch you discover this gem. I spent two nights almost on the same spot at Dedham. Idyllic. Now at Farley mount park near Winchester which is also very beautiful, free ... But the weather has changed completely!!! Hope you're staying dry wherever you are just now. Hugs, YAM xx

Hi! Re: hayfever being debilitating, I know what you mean - sometimes you just need to lie down until it calms down, and the itchiness in the back of your mouth can be unbearable. I used to get it really bad, and cetirizine hydrochloride tablets (Zirtek) weren't helping much. I switched to using beclometasone nasal spray (Beconase) and after a couple of weeks of building up it was much more effective. Also, I've found that each year my symptoms have become less, to the extent that I don't even use the spray every day through the season now. I suppose it might just be that I've grown out of it as I've got older (I'm 52 - much more ancient than you two), or it may have been the Beconase. Give it a try, and keep up the great videos!
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing Год назад
Yeah we’ve resorted to sitting in a dark room with ice packs on our eyes in the past 😅 Ceterezine is what we take, similarly it seems to be getting less effective the older we get so we’ll definitely try that beconase spray, thanks for the tip. We can only hope ours eases with age as well!

Just like Asthma and allergies, hay-fever are auto immune responses and it is your body over reacting to threats it encounters, that aren't really threats at all. I had all of them until I was around 46, when they all stopped abruptly. I think that as you age, your immune system weakens, so much so, that it's sensitivity and ability to fight diminishes greatly, to a point that Asthma and Hayfever etc. no longer are problematic, like me and a lot of other people, or lessen greatly with age.
@tommi.r
@tommi.r Год назад
Get yourselves some nasal spray if you haven’t already! My partner and I both suffer badly with hayfever too and we find the spray works better than the tablets, but it’s best if you take both. Pirinase is good - pricey but stronger than other brands. Take care guys!

Hi, I have a question. how do you go about the small space in the van whilst baby is growing? Mine is 10months old and honestly thinking going back to a house as is driving me crazy keeps falling / hitting on all surfaces(pre walking stage)UK full-time.TIA
@polythenepam3236

Have u tried local honey from local bees for hayfever? I know that’s worked for my kids who suffered so bad it resulted in hospital visits on more then one occasion each! I don’t know how or if that would work on the road but if ur staying out for a bit thru the summer (highly unlikely I know) it may be worth a try?!
@TheWholeWorldorNothing
@TheWholeWorldorNothing Год назад
Oh no that sounds like they suffer even worse than we do! We did used to use local honey when we lived in one place but we’re also not sure how it would work whilst travelling 🤔 Although interestingly our hayfever tends to be much worse in the UK than when we’re overseas, so maybe the best solution is just to go abroad 😅
