We got a black cat at an adoption event that you (Jackson) were helping promote. I remember you telling my soon to be wife and I about how excited you were we were adopting a black cat. She's the sweetest thing ever, and has been nothing but good luck and good vibes for us since we got her. Love our little void.
The first time I saw my black cat was at night and she was a darker black against the outdoor landscape so I noticed the "void". She was a stray cat coming for some kitty kibble I put out for the possums. She was friendly but reserved. We became pals and I adopted her and she ruled the household. I think she had another breed sort of brindle whatever that is called because one of her toes was many colored and she had white hairs throughout the fur on her body. She was not always friendly and developed a habit later in her life of ripping up sheets of paper when she was frustrated! All cats are individuals so I imagine she was unique!
All the black cats I've interacted with are the sweetest. Once a outdoor barn cat that didn't even know me was already rubbing up against me and asking for head pats. Later a sweet girl at our cat shelter named candy, she was so playful even though she was blind. It took a while for her and her sister to be adopted, luckily they are both now with a loving family.
I totally agree. I've had a couple of black cats and those plus every black cat I've ever met were super friendly. Witches in the new colonys and England were not burned. Lot's of other really bad stuff. Now for an un-proven idea. Because so many black cats were destroyed is it possible that only the friendliest, least demonic were allowed to survive??
I have a black cat and his mama is black n write beautiful fluffy. THEY are both so lovable i have had them for year's perfect kitty's i love them. Beautiful cat's ❤
So true! I baby sat some kids not too long ago and their black cat ,Schpooky, was so sweet and loving! As soon as I sat down, the cat was rubbing against my legs and purring and wanting love and attention. Also meowing to me. I was meowing back of course lol. When I picked her up, she never tried to get down after a few seconds like my 3 young cats at home do. She just let me hold her until I was done. Sweetest little thing! I hope I get a black cat one day! 🖤🖤🖤
I never wanted a cat, especially a black cat, and then my Bombay, Vinnie came into my life. He just turned 7 and we’ve had him a little over 2 years. It makes me cry thinking about how much he’s changed my life. He’s an amazing, affectionate little boy who follows me everywhere, headbutts me, and meows at me all day. He’s one of the best things to ever have happened to me 🖤
@@Maddie-5 , so sorry for your loss. We've all been there, and it's an excruciating heartbreak. But 17 years is a good, long run, so I hope you can find some comfort in that. Also, the soul is eternal, and I am sure that you and Felix will be reunited again.
@@Maddie-5 , I'm overwhelmed with joy and admiration for what you did! BRAVA! I wish you and the whole gang many, many, long, happy years of good health together! I also hope that everyone gets along. Check out Jackson's lessons on how to introduce new cats to each other. I even had to use his method for the time that my two had a fight and couldn't get over it. I had to reintroduce them to each other. It worked!
I adopted a black kitten a week ago and on the day 2 she was already glued to me, she is so affectionate, playful and sweet. We watch videos together, eat, play, sleep and she follows me everywhere, always jumping on me, meowing at me, wanting attention, a true warm and cuddly companion🖤
I adopted my black cat, Inara, during my senior year of college. She's helped me so much with my battle with depression. At my lowest points, she's given me a reason to live, so I think she has literally saved my life. I'm doing better these days - she's always doing something to make me smile or laugh.
my black cat Aomine I got her to get me through college too! I wouldn't have made it without her as my emotional support. She comes straight to me whenever I'm crying, and is so calm and gentle with me. The days I wouldn't get out of my bed on my own, I did it for her, because I knew she needed me, she makes me get up. She's so funny and dorky sometimes, and I love it when we curl up and nap together! I'm glad you had Inara with you to save your life, just the way Aomine kept me going! She got me through undergrad, now let's get through grad school together! Good luck to you in your future endeavors! Also is Inara by any chance named after Inari, the Shinto goddess of fertility?
I can so relate. I suffer often but my cat is a source of support and unconditional love (well ok I pay with pets and food :D ) seriously cannot imagine an empty house without her. Sadly she is 15 years old. Still healthy but I am dreading every vet visit in case she gets bad diagnosis .. getting her tested every 6 months to make sure I catch things early if they come
@@liannna212 I understand that myself as i have ocd and so every vet and even a few days before, visit i worry and obsess they are going to find something with my 8 yr old pit mix who saved my life as she gave me a reason to live and get help instead of jumping off of something. I feel like i'm forever in her debt as a result but i know in my heart i already "repaid her" as I rescued her from a non kill shelter. she was returned after 10months with the previous family because of how fearful she was. It took me 2 or 3 months before the shelter trainer let me take her home as she was SO fearful of people. I had to give Daphne my shirt to sleep on and go to the shelter many days in a row to toss her treats and just sit with her etc for 2 or 3 months before she was comfortable enough with me to get the ok by the trainer. another person had tried the same thing i did but she didn't warm up to them at all before i tried. They engraved her name on everything before getting the bond sadly. Its interesting how the "underdogs" aka black cats and pitbulls etc are the ones who save lives in ways you don't hear about on the news to me personally.
We got a black kitten, Nigel, when my mother became terminally ill 2 years ago. He has brought us nothing but joy and love during a very difficult time. We don’t know what we would do without him ❤
My kitten is a black cat and he is super friendly. A few people have commented "why a black cat" or "they bring bad luck", "blah blah blah...". If you ask me, I consider myself the luckiest person just by giving him a forever home and in return he gives me lots of laughs, joy and love.
I also have a black kitten that is approximately 6 months old. My husband found him out on the street a couple months ago. We think he was dumped/ abandoned because when he found him, he didn't exhibit any feral behaviors. He's rambunctious, talkative and very affectionate. I wouldn't have it any other way!
My little fur daughter Freya is the sweetest girl. She brings good to me every single day. One of my neighbors recently told me that she has never liked black cats but she looked into Freya's eyes and was totally drawn in. She's a blessing, not a curse.
3 days ago I decided to rescue a teenage black cat I saw online. Thanks to Jackson Galaxy I decided to bring her sister along 😄 Celeste is black and white, and Elvira is completely black with green eyes. Even though they’re still a little bit shy, they’re getting comfortable by the day and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you for your work!
Gratulation on your new família members ❤ we gonna bring a friend for our littleone(1yrs old will be in september) and we want to rescue from shelter 🎉❤ i wish you good health and lot of happiness for all
I kind of did it the other way around. I found a tuxi girl and then realized she had a sister who is an all-black fluffy girl (they are both fluffy girls). They. now both live with me and I couldn't be happier.
My black cat is my little angel. She is painfully shy, has some anxiety issues, clumsy. But she’s got this heart of gold that really makes me believe she came in to my life when I needed her most. Fun story about her, we adopted her during the time I was being diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome (Lupus’s sister disease). I was constantly in pain and my joints were horribly inflamed. I was only about 26 at the time. I became so depressed because of how badly I physically felt. We went to my local shelter since we had just moved out from my mom’s home. She had a scab on her head from a fall of her’s. She was hiding the whole time under this bench. She only came out for me and my wife. The shelter ladies were saying this is our sign. So we scooped her up and have never been happier. Now back to my illness, I was having an awful flare up. Enough where I couldn’t even eat breakfast. I just sat there crying. Then all of a sudden she popped up from hiding. She had been with us for a month by that point. So she was still getting use to the home and only came out to eat at night. It was the 1st time she ever came out during the day. She kept head butting me to pet her. So I did. Little by little I fought through the pain and was finally able to eat. Then she went back to hide in her usual spot. After that day, she came out more and more. She comforts me on my worst days. Sometimes even laying on my really inflamed legs when the flare up is unbearable and I can’t walk. Her little body feels so nice on my legs during those times. I think she knows it too. She even showed my other 2 kitties to do the same. They stretch out on my legs and chest the most. She literally had no idea that if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have even bothered to try anymore. I’m doing better now since then. I take medicine that helps keep things from happening so often. Obviously my bad days still occur on occasion. But my sweet loaf Shadow (I love calling her sweet bread or sweet loaf), is always right there to make me feel better. I like to think she knows that I’m in pain and wants to do what she can to help me. Even if it’s just taking her afternoon nap on my swollen joints. She truly is my special little angel and I thank whatever power it was that delivered this angel when I needed her most. She’s still painfully shy and still hides all the time (we think she was abused in her past, she shows lots of signs of this). But more and more, I see her growing and opening up. She plays with her siblings more often. She squeaks when it’s time for meals! She has her favorite spots that she will push her siblings out of the way for! She’s become a little diva at times! She’s getting older and I recently changed her food to elderly kitty food. She really loves it! But best believe I’m going to shower her in all the love I can while she lives out her golden years. She is my reason to keep fighting and I can’t thank her enough for that special gift she left me. Sorry this was so long! But I couldn’t help but want to share how much she truly means to me! 🖤🐈⬛🖤
I could see your story. I got diagnosed with breastcancer last March. Got two cats Luna(16) and Loes (13). The first two months of the chemo was the worst. Felt so terrible, nasau and couldent eat. Luna was laying in my bed along with Loes. Luna was snorring and purring so loudly a calmness came over me. They made the terrible days go by faster and I felt more calm. Now I just got operated. But the times I lay in bed to rest and such they are my biggest company. Cats are just great
This brought me to tears. So sweet. I’m so happy you have your kitty. I have a lot of joint pain as well, and suffer from depression and panic attacks at times. Holding my baby bombay makes everything better. He really grounds me.
I adopted my void kitty specifically because she was a void kitty. Best impulse decision I have ever made. And she is DEFINITELY lucky because she has extra toes on ALL her paws ❤
My first two cats were black, I was instantly drawn to them at the Rehoming centre. The lady that was walking round with me said afterwards it’s a shame there aren’t more people like me because black cats are the hardest to rehome. I specifically wanted older cats. The female blackie was six very petite a sleek absolutely gorgeous. Very verbal the older gentleman was approximately 10 or possibly older, and had been in the Rehoming centre for several years. I took one look at Gem and knew he was going home with me. I didn’t change their names. Unfortunately Gem was much older than first thought and he had undiagnosed kidney failure. The first week both cats slept most of the time. The vet wanted me to put Gem through several stressful tests and I refused. I made sure he was on medication that would support his kidneys but I wanted this old man to be loved, to eat anything he wanted and to know that his last few months he was loved, warm and safe. He was my first cat to pass away in my arms and I was devastated at the time but I least his last months where happy. Blackie lived to the ripe old age of 18.
Those kitties hit the jackpot when they came home with you! Thank you for rescuing older cats that were overlooked, even knowing that Gem had little time left and would break your heart. You are a wonderful person! My cat Spaz had diabetes and at 18 he had renal failure. When he was diagnosed with diabetes, 4 years before he passed, the vet told me to take him home, say our goodbyes, and bring him back for euthanasia. WHAT! I wanted to kick that guy. I told him my aunt has diabetes and we aren't putting her down. He said it's different, because my cat would hate me if I gave him shots and I wouldn't be able to do it anyway. Wrong! I found a much better vet. Spaz knew the medicine helped, so he would go to the fridge and meow when it was time for his insulin shot (very tiny needle btw). I even learned how to test his blood by poking a blood vessel in his ear where it's less sensitive. When he had renal failure the vet showed me how to give him infusions of lactated Ringers solution, basically kitty dialysis. Spaz trusted me even though it hurt and never complained. When he couldn't stand up one day, I took him to the vet one last time to help him over the rainbow bridge. It was one week after my mom died. 😭
My black cat Layla, passed in the spring of this year. She was almost 17. I adopted her when she was over a year old. She came right up to me against the glass at PetCo. She picked me. She was born without a tail. My current cats are an American bobtail(she’s black) and a white and brown cat.
@@LazyIRanch loosing a pet is hard and heartbreaking. But loosing your Mum a week prior you must have felt extremely lost. I’m so sorry for your loss. Nothing can replace your Mum.
I have four gorgeous Mini Panthers 🖤🖤🖤🖤 Fae, Morgan and twins Flynn and Fergus. All adopted 🥰 In Morgan’s case all his orange and tabby siblings were adopted immediately but he was left behind. 😢 He was 7 months old when I got him
My black kitty Luna has honestly been so good to my life, even helping me improve myself by learning to take care of her. One of the best things to happen to my life, she's brought nothing but positivity and love.
My sister's black cat is the best cat ever. Several years ago, Mom was having a heart event and Kelly had just gotten off a work shift and was dead asleep. Leela woke Kelly up in time to call an ambulance and get Mom to the hospital. Mom is still with us today at 101 years old! We also call Leela Nurse Kitty.
Leela is also the sweetest, gentlest and most chill cat ever. Dogs, kids, loud noises, nothing upsets this master of relax! She will also jump on the chair you warmed up for her 5 seconds after you've gotten out of it! 😉
Leela is a hero! Cats are incredibly smart. When my son was four, he was sick with the flu. He had thrown up and aspirated vomit and was choking. My cat, Spaz, jumped on my chest and yowled in my face. Then I heard my son choking and did Heimlich. He was turning blue, would have likely died if not for Spaz. I rushed my son to the hospital and found he had pneumonia
That’s incredible she did that! My aunt is diabetic and her cat woke her up in the middle of the night by head butting, sniffing her nose, and putting his face on hers. Her blood sugar had dropped in the middle of the night and when she sat up she knew it was her blood sugar too low. She ate peanut butter and drank orange juice and checked her sugar before going back to sleep. She was living alone at the time and people told her to get rid of her cat. Her cat saved her life and she never forget that. He’s about 14 years old and still follows her around like a stalker. He’s her number one fan!
Our black cat Mocha saved our lives one night when we were all asleep and the wind blew embers from the fireplace onto the rug. Mocha, who was our normally very polite and refined kitty, came screaming into my room, jumped on the bed yowling with her fur puffed out (like those Halloween black cats!) and alerted me to the danger! She was our Hurricane Katrina rescue whom no one would take because she was black, and that night she rescued us right back.
"Mocha" is a perfect name for your sweet girl! So many cats seem to be in the right place at the right time, it can't just be coincidence. I feel sorry for those who have never experienced the love and deep bond we can share with animals. Especially children who benefit greatly by growing up with pets for whom they are responsible for learning compassion and caretaking skills. 28 years ago, my cat "Spaz" saved my son's life. Spaz was my big, laid-back tuxedo cat who rarely got excited about anything. One night I woke up to him standing on my chest, yowling in my face loudly. When I was awake, then I heard why he was upset. My 4 year old son was in the next room, choking and turning blue! He had been sick for a few days, and he had thrown up and was choking, unable to breathe. If Spaz hadn't woken me up, I don't think my son would have survived. I flipped him over and hit him on the back and cleared his airway, then rushed him to the ER. He had aspirated vomit into his lungs and he spent a couple of days at the hospital to recover, but he still developed pneumonia and became very sick. I had Spaz for 18 years, and after he died I didn't think I could ever love another cat as much as I loved Spaz, he was one in a million. Spaz died in 2000, and 20 years later, December 2020, I had just experienced the saddest, loneliest Xmas ever. Everything was shut down because of COVID, so I didn't bother to celebrate Xmas that year. SIX of the neighbors in my small community of about 300 people died from COVID between December 2020 and February 2021. It was a bad time... until the event we experienced two days after Xmas 2020. I heard a noise on the porch, looked out to see the most beautiful tuxedo kitten looking at me through the glass front door, the doppelganger of Spaz who I loved so much. I thought I was hallucinating, and called my adult son to come look outside and tell me who he sees on our porch... "MOM! OMG, it's SPAZ! How is that possible?!" This kitten of about 4-5 months old looks exactly like Spaz did when I brought him home, 38 years ago when I was only 22 years old! My son and I live off-grid on a 20 acre property on a mountain, nearest neighbor is 2 miles away, and we don't get stray pets way out here (they wouldn't survive the wild predators). I put a picture of this beautiful little kitty on our local Facebook page to see if anyone lost him (while praying they didn't, because I was in love with him and he bonded with me right away). A lady who lives 8 miles from me recognized him immediately as one of a litter of 3 feral kittens who were eating up all her koi fish! She told me to PLEASE keep him inside, and DON'T bring him back to her neighborhood! His sister who also ate her koi fish had already been adopted by another neighbor who promised to keep her indoors, too. The 3rd kitten went missing, sadly. I don't know how Houdini survived his eight mile hike over here, or how he knew we _needed_ him, but he sure chose the right home. He not only looks exactly like Spaz, he has a very funny, silly personality like him, too. I named him after the famous magician, Houdini, because he's magical, and "dressed" in a tux like a real magician. He made my sad loneliness disappear!
I adopted a black cat a year ago, I was surprised they let me adopt him so close to Halloween (Because I respect that most places halt black cat adoptions). He wasn't even the kitten I was looking to adopt, and while I was looking at the one I was originally interested in...this tiny black kitten bravely climbed into my lap and stayed there. He chose me. And he's been my derpy buddy ever since!
Colony cats rescue in Columbus Ohio halts black cat adoptions in October as a rule. They let me take Tom then because I had worked with them so they knew me very well. I was still surprised that they didn't make me wait to take him.
Black cats are angels, my girl helped me through a lot of trauma, she sadly passed away on 18.10.22, love from a cat is unparalleled and a blessing. I’m totally broken. Thank you for giving them the credit they deserve.
I hope your beautiful, kind heart attracted another kitty to you who needs you as much as you need them! When you are ready, the cat distribution system will send you another friend to love. That's how I've acquired every cat I've loved in my 63 years. Every animal is unique and irreplaceable, but all are worthy of being loved. I can't imagine a life without our wonderful animal companions!
I just adopted my little spooky-floof Ichabod (Ichy-Boy as I’ve been calling him) earlier this month. I went to a free adoption event at one of my local shelters and I almost missed him. Had I not left my water bottle in their kitten room and went back for it, I wouldn’t have noticed him hiding in one of the upper kennels. He’s such a loving boy, very chatty, and wicked smart. He was a stray before and was pretty wary of new people, but he’s made great strides in the month that I’ve had him. I absolutely adore him and I love having him as my little buddy 🤗🐈⬛
My brother's friend had a black kitten and she couldn't keep her husband apparently threatening to throw her out on the street, idk if it's because she was a black cat or just a cat. I had been wanting a friend for my now 2 yr old orange cat and she's been amazing for both of us! She's so sweet ❤️❤️❤️❤️😻
As a previous black cat owner sadly he passed away. He was a feisty one not much for cuddles or being picked up. He was a "I'll come to you when I want your attention or require something." type of cat. Compared to my grey and white cat where she will let me do just about anything to her. I never felt like he brought me bad luck infact I wanted him specifically because he was a black cat. My heart still hurts to this day years later after I lost him because he was my first cat. I love him so much.
Oh, I totally understand. I lost my beloved all white cat daughter, Sox, in 2002. She had cancer, and had to be out to sleep. She was 17, and I still miss her. My new girl Babette, a Siamese mix, came coincidentally to me in 2018, at four months old. She's now four years old. I love her as much, but differently. I'll always love and miss my beloved Sox, but Babette has helped heal the sting of losing her🐱❤️🤗
I'll have to watch this with our Luna, the black cat who appeared at our ranch in the wilderness where the closest neighbor is a mile away. Her tail was freshly severed, my son found the other half a few days later. She likely narrowly escaped a predator as we have bobcat, lynx, pumas, wolves, and coyote out here. My son got her to trust him enough to bring her indoors, and she has bonded with him so that she won't allow the other 2 cats to be in the same room with him. She tolerates me, as long as I don't pick her up. She's never wanted to go back outside! To make this more mysterious, my son's beloved cat, Puff, passed away 3 months prior to Luna's arrival and he was devastated. Puff was solid black with long fur. My son snipped off the long fur from the tip of Puff's tail and kept it in a little box his grandmother gave him. I wanted to get him another kitty, but he wasn't ready. Then Luna showed up, injured, scared, and desperately needing a protector... missing the end of her tail! Sometimes the Universe sends you exactly what you need.
Sorry Jackson, I couldn't play this all through. But I'm grateful that you made this. The very thought of how stupid and inhuman so many people can be makes me incandescent with anger and grief. Thanks for being a voice for Cats. I hope that humans will learn something important here.
I wouldn't take it too seriously because we all know it's nonsense, but it just shows you how stupid people can be and how many cats died because of this ignorance, people who didn't know any better, people need to be educated about black cats so they are not left out for adoption
The end shows good and positive associations of the black cat! In Britain you give one to a bride for good luck. In Scotland it’s a good omen for one to show up in your doorway, in Japan the most suitable young women are single and live with a black cat-then there’s Bastet of Egypt! A goddess, and it was punishable by death to harm a black cat. This wasn’t in the video but there’s a wall painting in Egypt that depicts the pharaoh and the queen at a meal-the queen is feeding a cat a bit of fish under the table🖤 I know what you mean though. Just thinking of anyone harming a cat just because it’s a cat makes me very angry. People are sadly able to extend their discriminatory views even to the beautiful creation of nature/animals. Assigning morality to animals is absolutely maddening. People will vilify vultures just because they eat carrion when they are simply natures garbage collectors. Look what happens to us when we vilify cats-the plague! Talk about reaping what you sow-my goodness.
@@gildedpeahen876 it's true and it's sad that people kill cats because of the colour of their fur, should we kill people of colour because of the colour of their skin? This is the reason why Hitler was so Evil and Humanity hasn't learned from that, smdh
So interesting! This old cat lady learns so much from Mr. Galaxy. Figaro was my first black cat 63 years ago, and I have always had a black cat (among others) ever since. You are a treasure and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! 🐈⬛🐈
When I adopted my black cat from the Humane Society, they told me he was surrendered and flagged for aggression, but believe me when I say, I have never even heard him hiss before in the two years I've had him. He's a big baby, incredibly social and friendly, loves to cuddle and play. Every night he snuggles up next to me and we share a pillow. Black cats are absolutely good luck, my life has gotten so much better since he came into it. Mr. Monty man is my best friend
If a black cat crissing your path is bad luck, I wouldn't be able to leave the house. Onyx, my bombay rescue, MUST walk in front of me whenever possible. Thank you Jackson for addressing this!
I became a mom to a long haired black beauty named Gölge this summer. Can't say she brought me luck, but she definitely filled my life with joy and helped me improve my mental health 🥰 before summer I was struggling a lot with high pressure at work, which combined with unhealthy working routine at the home office (too short breaks, too long working days) caused some issues with stress management. This little lady is so active and social, that even though I still work a lot from home I had to introduced more active breaks during the day which made a huuuuge difference. And seeing the fluffball running towards me as soon as I come home and hearing her chirp to say good morning when she sees I woke up are the best thing in the world 😍
We just adopted a 5 year old Black Cat name Gus last week. He has been so calm, even at his vet visit. We drove a couple hours to see a Ginger Tabby that was already adopted by the time we got there, so we just decided to go by some other places in the area to look at cats, and there he was! All black with beautiful green eyes!
Thank you for talking about black cats! They are amazing! My fluffy Mishka( a gentle giant of a cat) has passed away recently from a heart condition. Never scratched, never hissed, just liked to cuddle. He was a handsome black fluffy. Now we have another black fluffy boy named Vlad and he is the cutest and sweetest little boy. I love all cats but black ones hold a special place in my heart.
I adopted a black cat a few years ago. Saw him on the Humane Society's site as a kitten, went, and was met by this incredibly affectionate teen black cat. It was him. We went home together, and I've loved him since. Black cats are awesome ! Yeah, they are tough to take pictures off, and it's way too easy to stumble over them at night, but the love, cuddles and laughs he brings more than make up for it !
I remember reading that in Venice there was one day each year devoted to throwing live cats from a high building down into St. Marks Square. How sick is that? The other thing I've heard is that there are very few completely black cats - most of them have a few white hairs or patches. This may be the case in the u.k. where black cats were hunted and killed so completely that totally black cats became extinct. I have no idea where I heard these two points. So they may not be reliable pieces of information. Linda Peace
One of the nicest cats that I ever worked with was a black cat. Whenever he was boarded at the vet’s he would always reach out his tiny little paws from cage and brush up against its bars so people would pet him. He was such a sweet cat, and he would even poke his paws down whenever I or another person would go to feed/pet the cats in the cages below him. And try to touch them onto our shirts or heads.
I've had my little black kitty Cecily since she was a four month old kitten when I picked her out at the shelter and she was meowing for me to take her home. That first night she fell asleep curled up in my lap. Ten years on she's still the same sweetie and I'm still a very proud cat mom. 🐈⬛
I have a different story. I was only a baby when this event happened, but it's had a tremendous impact more than 50 years later in my family and how we take special precautions towards keeping our cats safe and indoors (for those family members that have indoor/outdoor cats) on Halloween. Before I was born, my dad adopted a beautiful black cat, Ahab, whom he loved dearly. Ahab was extremely intelligent, was taught numerous tricks, was very affectionate - and a beloved member of a young family in New York City. He had an interesting quirk though, in an inability to meow - his meow was silent. My parents lived in a neighborhood of people, who in that generation of that culture, was highly superstitious. Tragically Ahab disappeared Halloween. We have always presumed the worst and each of us are struck sick with horror of what we presumed happened. So Happy Halloween everyone, but please keep a special watch out for our beloved cats, even more so, the black ones.
We rescued our black cat from Autozone, where somebody dropped him off at about 2 weeks old. He's over a year now and the best cat I've ever had! He's absolutely precious. Likes cuddling, talking and being wild! As a bonus he's gorgeously shiney, like he's been swimming in an oil slick!
My black kitty fur baby's name is Nova. Nova is certainly, without a doubt, good luck. She has kept me alive. I struggle with my mental health, and I have become Nova's favorite human. I've ended up in the hospital a couple of times since I've gotten her (my mom has taken care of her during those times), and my mom says she's always lost without me when I'm away. Now, if she's lost when I'm away during a hospital stay, I can only imagine what would happen to my poor kitty, if something were to ever happen to me. So I gotta stick around. I love Nova more than I love myself.
My wife and I got 2 black kittens a few weeks ago, Rascal and Raven. Its been a rough year, what with 2 of our senior furbabies passing, my grandmother, and some other things. We went a few months no cats, which is strange. I have had cats for most of my life. Then we got these 2 cuties! They have done nothing so far but bring joy, light and energy into our home! Not the first time I have had a black cat. When I was a kid, I chose a black kitten from a friend to bring home. His name was Whisper, and my parents and sister think he was the best kitty we had in our home! Black cats are awesome!!
I got a black kitty because of my daughter, and we were surprisingly happy to find out she's (the kitty) a Bombay cat. She's the best cat ever, very sweet and playful.
Human beings are the cruelest species of all. Especially when having this inherent need to create a hierarchy based upon race (humans) or color (animals), rooted in hatred, swimming in the deeper depths of discrimination by implying insular human beliefs and symbolism upon an animal based upon their coat color.
I always thought it was ridiculous in Westerns that the "good guy" had a white horse and white hat, but bad guy's had black horses and black clothes. The white just stands out and makes a good target at night!
@@LazyIRanch I understand that's bad, but it is so funny to imagine an evil guy buying a black horse for the aesthetic. Like, he needs a very specific horse to match his clothes.
I got my black cat when I was around 8 or 9 years old and I grew up with him. He helped me through many dark phases in my life and I‘m so grateful he’s still around. I love him with all my heart and make sure that during October he gets even more love and attention than he already receives the rest of the year just bc it breaks my heart that there’s still people that believe black cats are evil.
I adopted a black kitten in summer (he is my first ever black cat, I have had calicos, torties, tabbys) and I was specifically looking for a black cat (also have a 6-year-old calico). He is just amazing - very outgoing personality (even with strangers, he goes up to them, gives them a sniff and a moment later he is in their lap, contently purring away as if he owns every person in the world), loves to play a lot (he loves to play fetch and when he wants to play, he brings me a ball and taps my leg until I notice and throw the ball, only for him to retrieve it and have me throw it again), his litter box manners are good (we have two boxes because they never even once used the third one and they actually pee in one and poop in the other one) and he is sooo affectionate - he loves cuddles and when he has been sleeping somewhere and wakes up, he comes to me as if he hasn't seen me for ages - rubbing his face against me, purring, demands to be picked up to rub his face against mine until he is satisfied. I don't believe in the superstitions of black cats bringing bad luck because ever since we brought him home, my life has improved so much (because when you adopt a kitten, not only do you get extra responsibility but free entertainment and unconditional love). I love both my cats a lot and I can't imagine my life without them (in our family cats are equal family members, much like children - we provide the best we can and expect nothing in return). Please people, stop being racists and adopt black cats. If you have a black cat (or maybe even more than just one) - cherish them.
Black cats are all kinds of awesome. 🖤🖤 My old girl Luna (hey, it was groundbreaking naming in 2003!) would always find a fellow blackie friend wherever we lived. When she was a kitten I found her having some sort of spooky ritual with 2 other blackies, all three of them sitting in a circle just staring at each other. I miss my little Looney Tunes 😢
My beloved boy is a black cat and he captured hearts of my whole family. He's my first cat and thanks to your advice in your videos both our lives is so much easier and more fun! We play together, go on walks (he's leash trained) learn new tricks and cuddle (purrs included but only on his terms xD) so thank you Jackson!
My first black cat was called Stu and he lived until he was 19 years old. He was the sweetest cat, he always welcomed newcomers whether it be in human (baby) or feline form. The best cat I could ever wish for … and he was loved dearly. I now have several rescue cats (all black) and they are all so very loving and beautiful. 🐈⬛❤️
I am over the moon with my black cat Halloween. I had to name him after one of my favorite holidays. He is my best friend, and they are far from bad luck. They are actually good luck. I don’t know what I would do without him. The thought of him dying one day, just hurts my soul. I know that it will happen one day. But for now I am enjoying every single moment with him. Love you Hallow 🥹🥰🖤 My little Scorpio 🤭
My wonderful black kitty was feral….it took weeks to just touch him, but when we did he never looked back. That was 5 years or so ago. I’ve had a few cats in my life but I’ve never had one as “dog-like” as Mordecai. He follows me everywhere, demands food and talks all day. He’s delightful.
I just ended up with a black kitten before Halloween, in sort of a magical way. I've been accidentally going back and forth about thoughts on luck because I live in a predominantly Hispanic area, where black cats are shunned and dumped often, because of superstition. As soon as I heard that I found out other cultures have the opposite belief, so I've been plainly raising this here cat better than I've raised any other. Wish me luck if I wish you luck? lol
Thanks for sucha informative video! I had no idea about all this. Until I was doing final paper work for my void I didn't know black cats have lowest adoption rates. I was planning on adopting another orange cat just because orange is the new black but maybe imma get another matching void one now!
Friendly reminder to take the time for proper introductions / incorporation into your home. You won't regret it. All 7 of my kitties get along well as a result of that effort. Good luck and have fun.
My boy Harry is hands down the best cat I’ve ever had in my whole life. So affectionate, so playful and caring. He has all the good characteristics of a cat and dog and just nothing to blame about him ❤
My Spooky is a bit dog-like, too. He got in the middle of a group of new-to-him people and flopped on the ground, inviting them to pet him. My sister and I were there, so he knew our friends were safe. But that's definitely more of a dog thing to do.
My black boy cat Penny is very precious to me: he was a farm cat who lived with a former friend. He has survived a coyote attack, FIV, and a home full of hostile cats before he was abandoned to me. He just had a health scare, and the strain on my finances is forcing me to be better about my budget + savings. He is very loud and picky and spoiled and I love him more than almost anything 🥰💕
We are fostering a black cat (considering adopting her) she is the most peaceful being I have ever seen, she's still a little cautious because she has had an awful time on the streets and on her previous foster “homes”, but recently she has let us touch her head (for a couple of seconds) and she slept next to us! Which honestly made my heart bigger. We have two other cats around her same age. All females and even though they are still a little scared of her and hiss (she never hisses back tho), they are slowly accepting her. We are trying to come up with a name for her, if anyone has a good idea!
I just adopted a black kitty 2 weeks ago from the shelter andI just learned that Oct 27 (my birthday) is also National Black Cat Day!!! What an amazing thing to share with my kitty! Still thinking of names… her shelter name was Periwinkle lol and she’s the sweetest cat ever
My wife and I were adopted by a 4 week old mini panther who was abandoned in our backyard a few years ago on Halloween, so we named her Spooky. She is an absolute joy to have in our life.
Thank you for this episode. My two black cats truly appreciate it. I don’t know anything about whether they are any smarter or better than any other cat, but I do know that my two cats love to talk to us and truly seem to understand when we are talking to them.
Love my black kitty! She was rescued with the rest of the litter who had been abandoned by their mother. She and her mates were taken in by a friend of mine. Their brother didn't survive 😢, but she and her sister were nursed back to health and became my owners over 13 years ago. I called her Lucy, because you can't call a girl cat Lucifer, but she's the sweetest cat, talkative, affectionate, snuggly. Even the vets love her.
My first black cat just passed away yesterday, on Halloween. We still have our 2 year old little black kitty boy at home, but oh boy do I miss her. She was my first cat, and I will never forget her. Black cats are so beautiful and are the best luck you will ever have.
My husband and I adopted a 2 year old black kitty back in late March. We named her, Sophia. She was a bit of a handful in the beginning because shortly after adopting her she was diagnosed with ORS and had to be re-spayed. Since then she has been truly settling in her new home. She LOVES to play fetch with her springy toys which so funny. Never had a cat that played fetch with their toys. She is so shiny and sleek. I don't mind calling her our Halloween kitty. She is a beautiful cat!
I have had the best experiences with black cats, and also tuxedos. One of my current cats, Mulan, is a gorgeous tuxedo kitty and she is very sweet. She’s not as social and outgoing as my other cat, and she’s much more independent, but every morning as I’m eating breakfast in the living room, she never fails to jump up on the couch and demand her morning pets.
Nice thanks Jackson! I've had black cats throughout my life (c= Awesome to know that we did adopt/receive a black cat on our wedding day! Not only did it help a friend but it could be interpreted as a sign of good luck! Hooray!
both of my black cats Salem and Midnight are absolute love butts. Midnight was my first cat and best friend. I actually got Salem in honor of Midnight. Salem is my little knight protecting me from bugs and keeping my feet warm. He also only warms up to people who have been good people to have in my life and hisses at those I shouldn’t have had in my life. Outside of that, he’s just good company and my precious baby.
I just adopted a black cat yesterday from the Oklahoma Humane Society and she is so sweet and loving. I saw her on their site and it was love at first sight. She fits in perfectly. Jackson I like watching you because Luna is my first cat that I have ever had. Your videos have really helped me a lot with Luna.
Mia is our black kitty, she found me while I was working, I was told she was thrown out of a van as a kitten and never left, the people that were feeding her were about to move away and were worried for her. She was purring around my ankles while they were telling me her story, I like to think she chose me as a family 😊 I took her home and we LOVE her to the moon and back ❤
My very first cat is an adopted black cat called Cinder (we picked her up from the cat shelter). Since getting her, people have always commented on how soft her fur is and how much they love her colour. I was surprised to find out how many people in my neighbourhood actually really like black cats. She's sadly not very touchy-feely, but she gives me kitty kisses and spends most of her indoor time in my vicinity. A very look-but-no-touch kinda cat. Thankfully, she tolerates pets and cuddles. Because she is a good kitty.
I started with a long haired white cat (flame point) and loved her dearly that when she passed away, I grieved for seven years and never thought I would get another cat again. Then this black/seal coat cat arrived in my life and my love and fascination for the golden eyed black cat started. I love them! They are so mysterious and for some reason I feel a deep connection to them. They are very special to me and I have heard that it is very lucky to have a black cat in your house. They are also considered to be a protector against ill will and the unseen malevolent spirit world. I only wish we could have had him for a very long time, but with deep sorrow , he left us last year.😭. I know I can never replace him in my heart, but I believe he wanted us to look for another one not exactly like him but I know it’s meant to be. I feel it in my whole being. She is a beautiful black baby with white bib, chest, belly and socks, (like an armor) ready to protect her new home and family. And she knows we love her so much!❤ Thank you for this video and allowing me to tell my story about my beloved cats. 🥰😻
My mom saved a black kitten. From an elderly lady who expected the poor thing to be a "lap-cat" off the bat, and kept hounding her and yelling at her, trying to pick her up and keeping her in place, etc. Just horrible. As a result this poor cat was constantly in hiding and terrified mode. This hag tried - and failed - to chase her out from under furniture by hitting a broom against it, she had no shame admitting this later. My mom was informed of this by someone who knew this lady. She went to this woman's house, and the poor cat was hiding in the smallest crevice behind a wardrobe, and the dumb hag still went on about how ' ungrateful this cat is' and 'doesn't behave how she should'. My mom told her off and told her to get tf out of the room. Within 30 minutes she managed to coax the cat out into the carrier box, and the rest is history. That was about 6 years ago, she's the most shy and gentle cat I've ever met, with saucer yellow eyes. Whenever I visited I always kept distance knowing how she is with touch, but she just started sitting next to me eventually, and would let me even pet her a bit. That's just such an honor from a cat like her. I can't imagine people hating on black cats, they must be utterly ignorant.
A family member passed away and left behind their black cat and she's staying with me right now. She's got the loudest purr I've ever heard on a cat! She also loves belly rubs, which was surprising! She's so cuddly too, unusually so.
I had a void kitty named Rex who passed away in 2019. He was absolute sweetest boi, and I’ve never understood those who say black cats are bad luck. He only ever gave me good luck, was always there to cheer me up when I felt down. 🥰
We rescued our black cat from our neighborhood after he had been wandering for months. 💔 He got left behind after a family moved away. He is the most PRECIOUS cat. He keeps me laughing & entertained all day. :) He gets along great with our other rescue, a tabby (thanks to your amazing “how to introduce a new cat” videos!!!). We are so lucky to have him in our family! 🖤
Thanks for the knowledge JG! I've had 2 black cats. 🐈⬛ One when I was a teenager long ago. This was a time (before Mankind realized it) it was a lot safer to let cats outside and we never even neutered our animals way back then. On Halloween, I used to ask this cat (named Licorice), how many paths did you cross today? The other (named Inky), was the most gorgeous black cat! 🐈⬛ He lived 16 years! Wish I could post a pic of both. One other thing I'd like to point out is, black cats aren't 100% black. I don't know about purebreds, but black cats always have a little bit of white on them. Normally on their tummies.
My Athena and Leonidas are my entire heart! 🐈⬛💗🐈⬛ I originally applied to adopt only Leo. And I was very confused after passing my kitty over the phone interview with the shelter when the lady said that if I decide to change my mind, there are other more colorful cats I could adopt. I immediately responded that he is mine. I don’t want any other cat. All they have to do is reserve him for me and I’ll pick him up in a couple days at their Petsmart cat adoption fair. To my surprise, after I held Leonidas, the ladies told me he has a biological sister who was being fostered separately but was at Petsmart too. Athena hated me the moment they put her in my lap but I knew she was mine. After about a week of convincing her I was a good mommy, I finally won her heart and she has been my permanent shadow and therapy cat ever since. I seriously don’t know what I would do without my babies. And yes, they are my babes. Not my cats, my babes. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 My life has been enriched ten fold because of them. If anyone is curious about adopting black cats, both of my babes are the sweetest and most loving animals who both LOVES to cuddle, daily affection, love constant petting and are so unconditional. My babies are my world. And I could not have imagined adopting any other kitties.. ♥️
@@LazyIRanch I tell that to people all the time. If I take a picture of my black cat and his eyes are closed he’s practically invisible. When his eyes are open that’s all you see, no body, just eyes 😹
After watching this, I personally want to say thank you for the research and the explanation of what a superstition is. So many people don't know that here in the States but think they do. Keep up the great work! P.S. Onyx, my black cat, rules the house
At my husband's and my first house (a rental so no pets), there was a feral black cat on the property who we named Phantom because it reminded us of the phantom of the opera. Phantom started bringing kittens, so we called her Phanny and though I tried to gain her trust, she never warmed up to me. We enrolled her in the community cat program (a trap, neuter, vaccinate, and release program funded by the city), and when we drive by that property to this day, we sometimes still see Phanny there chasing squirrels and living her best outdoor cat life. (PS two of her kittens became ours!)
I absolutely melt when I see a black cat, they mean so much to me 🥺 I grew up with a black cat (with a cliche name, Midnight....heh). I even made a drawing for her little box/casket when she passed. I still miss her to this day, ten years later. Black cats are SUPREME in my eyes. No one can convince me otherwise
I have 6 indoor ONLY cats (all "fixed"). One is all black and in a Manx. One is all white...the other 4 are either black and white or white and black 🖤🐈⬛❤️ When my dad was in hospice, there was a black cat there who would go in to the room of the dying. The nurses knew that when the cat went in, the patient's soul would go out ..sure enough, as my daddy drew his last breath that cat was there, waiting on him...when daddy stopped breathing the cat jumped up and went into the closet in the room (the door had been left open), he meowed as if to stay "follow me, I know the way", then he turned and left the closet and left the room and walked down the hall to the front door where he sat, looking toward the door and meowed again as if to let dad know "this is the way out". My dad often got lost...that cat was helping to guide my daddy's spirit...you tell me otherwise.
Hi Jackson, my name is Jeremy from Australia and I asked you a question earlier this year when you joined via live stream for the Melbourne Cat Lovers Show. I'd love to share about the cat my wife and I took in just over a year ago. She's a black cat with the name Riko, and welcoming her into our home has been one of the best things we've ever done. She really is the sweetest thing ever and she definitely has my heart wrapped around her black socks! We nickname her the little princess, and she knows it.
i recently adopted a black kitten and she’s probably the sweetest most affectionate cat i’ve ever known. it’s a terrible shame that people’s tired superstitions inflict harm upon such beautiful animals
I actually found my dear black kitty boy exactly one year ago on Halloween night when I was out on a walk. He was really young (as the vet later confirmed, about four months old) and so lovely from the very start, he approached me and started purring, then walked home with me. I took him in and made a post about him on a local facebook group for lost animals. It turned out the same night two other black cats his age were found in other parts of my city, so our best guess is someone didn't want them and decided to just throw them out?? My family wasn't very keen on adopting him at first (a lttle bit due to all the superstitions), but somehow the next morning I've heard my mother muttering "and how am I not supposed to fall in love with you?" and have found my dad playing with him with a toy he quickly assembled. :') I guess the kitty put them under his spell. Anyway that's the story of my dearest cat, the love of my heart.
We love our black cats! We adopted a bonded pair of them. I’d always heard they had a harder time being adopted and wanted one - then finding a pair, I figured if one black cat has tougher chances of adoption, a pair really needed a special home. I’m so glad we have our two bonded black cat boys. They are so sweet and cuddly and silly and we love them very much.
Our black cat was a rescue and he’s definitely been good luck! He was found in an alley in Longmont and was tiny when we got him. He’s black, but it’s like you can still see tabby stripes still. Sometimes he makes his eyes all black and I can see how superstitious people could be frightened, but it’s more like Puss In Boots on Shrek.
I adopted 3 black cats earlier this year - a mother and two of her kittens. I named the mama Grimalkin, which is the archaic term for a cat or, more specifically, a witch's familiar. I took willpower not to name her son Salem! (He's called Obi-wan Kenobi, and the daughter is simply Jet).
Is it true when a black sits on your face you are going to when the lottery? I've been lay here for nearly 3 hours now and I have still not won anything, also its getting uncomfortable so can I get up please?
Absolutely fantastic information. I am a guy who only had big dogs for the first 4 decades of his life-a Puli that I grew-up with from age 2 till age 18-and then labs-and when my daughter was 3 we adopted a half Maine Coon half Bengal Leopard who was just an amazing cat. (She recently died at age 19) Having adopted another cat and having had a cat for the past 21 years, there’s still so much I don’t/didn’t know about them that I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us out here on the inter webs. I REALLY appreciate your work! 👍🏼❤️
I have had my black kitty, Binx for about 2 months now and he already has my whole heart. He is the perfect mix of psycho and sweetheart and we truly got lucky with him❤
We’ve just adopted a lil black kitten called Cherry and she is THE sweetest, most affectionate cat both of us have ever had. She spoons us every night, give us ‘kisses’ to check were still breathing every night, will run to check on us while playing, purr when she hears our voices - everything.
I have always wanted a cat of my own and Jackson taught me a lot about them before I decided to adopt one. I always wanted a black one because I know how they're often rejected, but I also think they're beautiful. My boy Zorro and I have been family for a bit over a year now and I am so grateful to have him be in my life. He is a tuxedo cat: white chest and belly and of course regal white gloves. He also has a white mustache. He has pink paw pads with adorable black and pink toes. He is so loveable, playful, curious, and nothing like the stereotypes often associated with cats. I'm a university student, and while he can get in the way of doing schoolwork, I am much less lonely with him around and couldn't ask for a better roommate.
Oh my goodness, I couldn't agree more! Black cats are such a blessing. We had one come to us during the pandemic, she was really on death's door and it was actually under auspicious circumstances that we even found her. Skin and bones, but singing her beautiful song for help. We gave her food and water, then she immediately fell asleep in my mom's arms, and she drooled this glorious fountain of spit. Poor baby. She is up to a perfect weight and, actually, a terror to their other cats. But, she is just the most perfect girl!
I have a black kitten from the shelter since two months. He’s joined a family of my gf a six year old cat and a 5 year old dog. Our black kitten has been super energetic and totally fearless. He’s great fun, and is great with the dog,but a bit of a terror for our oldest cat, I make sure play lots with him when starts to annoy our oldest cat. He’s so much more energy than my first cat, it’s play play play, eat, sleep, play play play etc… 🤣
I got my beautiful Wednesday back in 2016 at an animal shelter. They said she was around 3 years old at the time. For the first couple years I had her she was very shy and hid a lot, but I left her be and checked on her and slowly she started to come to me for quick bouts of attention. The first time she came and curled up in my lap I cried. I couldn’t believe it. She is so small and soft and precious. She knows when I’m upset and comes and taps me and gives me head boops. When I pet her and she’s not done with the love she taps my face. My sister in law calls her Therapy Cat. Lol I absolutely adore her.
Watched this video with my black cat Yan sleeping on my nap. He’s the sweetest boy ever, I no longer can imagine my life without him. Last year he tested positive for FIV and I was so worried, but he’s doing great, living his best life, you can’t even tell he’s FIV+.
My black cat (tiny goblin, because he tries to eat everything and climbs things) sits just like the Halloween depictions with the question mark tail. I think he's totally adorable and he is absolutely spoiled ♡♡♡♡ found him abandoned when his eyes were barely even opened. I love all my cats but he's my baby ♡
I've never heard of Japanese superstition before, but I must say my black cat has always been very skittish, and my husband was the first person ever that he just confidently came out to greet when we first started dating! So there you go, may be there's some truth to that 😀
I have a black cat Ella, with two-tone green eyes, who was a rescue. Local authorities rescued her from "a hoarding situation" (the official status), and I rescued her from the local Humane Society, who told me she had been unclaimed for some time. She is the queen of the household and she reminds me of this daily -- by gazing at me from the top of her cat tree. But she is also an affectionate and sweet girl and "a Crazy Animal" who is charming and who has cheered me up multiple times.
Thank you Jackson! You are my cat teacher! After having dogs my whole life, and then petless for 2 years, my daughter brought home a 5 week old feral cat with a badly infected eye who was living under a porch. Turns out he is an absolutely beautiful Bombay cat and so loving, so affectionate so personable I'm in love!!🥰 Hes 6months old now and we are both learning so much. Thank you again Jackson.
