The dishwasher pods have 3 different agents in them- detergent, rinse aid, and additives . I prefer the gel dishwasher detergent, but I also buy a rinse agent. With the gel, I can put a drop on top of the dish soap dispenser, and it gives the pre- rinse a boost. I had to go online to read the instructions for my dishwasher, as these machines don’t seem to come with instructions anymore.🌺

I actually found Finish to be better than Cascade, especially if you have a baking pan with baked-on residue. Also, after using Cascade for a while my glasses all started to get cloudy. It took two washes with Finish to shine them up again. The Finish handles hard water better, although my water is just a little hard.

There's a RU-vidr on here named Technology Connections and he ran several tests and said that it doesn't matter what detergent you use, the machine does about 97% of the work! As long as your machine is hooked up properly it will work with the cheapest detergent! He also recommends Powdered Great Value detergent because it's economical and you can control the amount you use.

People are washing dishes by hand differently now. They don't fill the sink and wash, put it on the rack and rinse a bunch. They now wash and rinse each dish letting the water run the whole time. What a wasteful way to do it.

loved seeing the shininess! I'm hella basic. I just like to soap my dishes up with a soapy sponge, put them in the dishwasher, and put a liquid dab of Cascade in there. I've lived in my current apartment 2.5 years and still have the full heavy liquid Cascade. I run the dishwasher on one load a day or every few days. That was so funny about the laundry pacs in there!! They make the font so small! For others, don’t ever use laundry pacs in the dishwasher because they are designed to get sudsy, and it will oversuds the dishwasher which puts a lot of strain on the motor. I use the Cascade Platinum Plus for my horrible city water, best thing that helps keeps the spotting away that I’ve found and the scent is incredible.

It’s hard to test these because it depends on your water hardness. You need something more concentrated like Cascade Platinum or Finish Quantum for harder water conditions I’ve learned over the years. But for soft water plus using rinse aid, less is more!! The Cascade Complete is almost just as good as their higher end Platinum series, just a few less chemicals they use in it is all. Awesome video!!

I have problems with anything red. If I do not completely rinse off tomato sauces, my white dishes will have a red stain after washing. I will have to scrub by hand to remove. I've used various brands. Also, i can't leave any trace of food on silverware, they will come out with brown stains. It seemed like the pods, powder, and homemade detergent washed everything great. For the pods, the #1 thing is getting the: price per pod. The platinum ones run 30¢ each. The Finish Quantum Powerball has a bag of 82 that run 20¢ each. Yet, the Great Value and Dollar Tree brand ones are around 13¢ each.

I don't have a dishwasher, so I do handwash all my dishes. I do turn my water off, or down to a trickle, as I wash things & try to rinse more than one item at a time. Even if I did have a dishwasher, a lot of my dishes are antiques, vintage, depression, or crystal which I would not run through one. I have not had or used a dishwasher in over 30 years & the one we had was a portable one that ended up being used as an additional cupboard & countertop cutting board surface. My current kitchen does not have the floor space for one as it is a galley kitchen.

How well your dishwasher works and the temperature of your water are bigger factors than soap in my experience. We have had three different dishwashers and our current one is so good we can put the dirtiest dried on dishes in there with any detergent and the dishes come out great every time. Previous dishwasher (more expensive too), needed the hot water to be turned up so high and only cleaned well with certian detergents.

I live in an area with very hard water and when we built our current home we installed a Bosch dishwasher which I really like but was unhappy with the dish cleanliness. The fancy pods only partially dissolved and at times actually stuck in the dishwasher. After testing several methods, the plain Costco pods with regular rinse aid worked best and was significantly cheaper. I have trouble finding the powder version of dishwasher detergents in my area. I rent years ago like mid 90s when the energy efficiency and water consumption tests showed that it took on average 4 gallons to run the dishwasher and 11 gallons to wash the same amount of water by hand.
@jeannel1065
@jeannel1065 6 месяцев назад
I think it’s the dishwasher and hot water (plus the over 3-hour wash time) more than the detergent. I got a new Kitchenaid dishwasher a year ago to replace the same brand that died after 18 years (wouldn’t heat water, so gave an error message). I’ve only used Kroger cheapo pods and every load has come out spotless with one exception (peanut butter is the only thing that defeated it by leaving slight streaks on knives used to spread it). I only remove stuck-on egg yolk and mash potato remains and won’t purposely leave grease.

You using a laundry pod in the dishwasher made me laugh as this is something I would totally do ( I’m very easily distracted). The only reason I avoid incidences like this is because I keep similar things completely separate. My vitamins and medicine upstairs and our pet medicine downstairs (don’t ask why I started doing this 😂), dishwasher tabs in kitchen and dishwashing pods in laundry room, bleach in basement and vinegar/water mixture in bathroom, salt in a specific well-labelled small container in the kitchen cupboard and sugar in the basement pantry in a much larger container… everything similar is well separated at my house, lol.

Miss Living on a dime thanks for the comparison. So a few things. 1. You don't really have to test the hand washing / gallons thing. Unless you have tampered with your faucet's flow restrictors (which have been, federally, in place since 1996) you're going to get 2.2 GPM (Gallons per minute) out of the sink faucet. California is more restrictive by 0.2 GPM but all in all 11 min X 2.2 GPM = 24.2 gallons. Next nice video glad you did Great Value near the beginning. That's the one I wanted to see. I would off that you tell the viewers you washer make and model and the settings you are using because that also makes a difference. :) Thanks for the video

I know what it is to be under water restriction, so I try to be as conservative as I can, but I think for most Americans, we have really never lived in a time of want like those who were in the great depression did.
