Hoovie, I just wanted to drop you a note. I'm a tech at a dealership. The blown head gaskets most always lead to bottom end issues. The issue you talked about running crapy on startup, could mean coolant in the cylinders not as a vapor but liquid. This could be bad for bearings, very bad, but not noticed until too late. Please have these guys at Wizards check the rod bearings and if it was at my shop I'd check for rod damage. This could be a very costly and bad situation if not checked, but only a couple hundred bucks to be sure all is good. I watched this video last night and its been bothering me ever since. I've said my piece, thanks for the video, keep them coming.
I dont think it was a error from the mechanic. These V12 motors are not suitable designed for anything usefull. They are just money pits which blow up after a short time running and rich people dont care about a repair bill of 50.000 usd.
Junk car reviews So in other words, if it's only several hundred dollars he might should just replace the rods. Springs etc now? Is that what your saying Unless that leads to an entire new set of issues🤷
water damage in a cyl while running does not grow over time, as soon as the engine cant vaporise the coolant, the rod bends, the bearing does not get shot before or after, it goes with it
Can we take a moment to appreciate the systematic and thorough sorting of all those engine parts on that cart? It not only makes the neat freak in me happy, it's also the kind of attention to detail and thoroughness I like to see in a car mechanic.
When you're performing major-surgery on a limited-production Italian Exotic, every piece/part is major $$$.....so your shop bench takes on the precision of a hospital operating table.
Generally everything has to go back in the same place it came from with OHC engines, because they are machined when assembled - you mix them up, you'll have serious issues down the track.
His wife should have to go back to her former life in Vietnam without Hoovie's money Foreign women become like American women when you bring the to the USA
She has her own money as well. He didn't bring her here from Vietnam. She was here for years and going to school. I agree though. Hoovie is going to sucked dry like a Hoover and not in a fun way. Lmao
Most states only allow alimony for the exact years of marriage for example if you are together 5 years then he only pays for the next 5 years or until she is financially independent bringing in more than alimony or married again.
It's unfortunate to see Hoovie go through life changes such as a divorce. The silver lining here is at least he has a great place within the hanger to store his remaining cars as well as his personal things. Even if its just temporary, its a nice fall back which a lot of guys don't generally have available to them during times like these. Thanks Hoovie for continuing to provide great content during such a difficult situation! Much appreciated.
I love it how the Wizard's garage actually takes engines apart and works on them. It's awesome to see, they're not just replacers, they're actually mechanics.
The cylinder head nuts were loose because the engine was over heated, causing the head to expand and be crushed by the nut. When the engine cooled, the head is now less thick so the nuts are loose. I've seen this on Mercedes and Rolls/Bentley engines that had never been apart. Sometimes the head studs/bolts will also strip-which can be a nasty surprise when re-assembling the engine. Good luck.
I could be wrong but to me it doesn't look like a headgasket failure either. Headgasket looks to have been damaged while removing the head, the damage does not appear to travel from the coolant passage through the firing ring or through a oil passage. Cylinders don't appear cleaner or have less carbon buildup on the bank with the failed gasket compared to the other bank. The plugs appear to have water marks above the crush washer, meaning they were sitting in water rather than coolant/water being in the chamber. Possibly this is the miss and the overheating issue was related to something else?
I agree. Amateur diagnosis on Hoovie and pals part. The engine was a turd before the loose bolts. Because of the pre-existing problems, loose head bolts maybe true but saying it was the mechanics fault… very short sighted. This is what you get when you buy junk or bottom of the heap examples. I have owned Ferrari and Aston’s and have the complete opposite buying habits. I don’t look for the bang for the buck high mileage sketchy stuff. If you want a bargain exotic car, you are also wanting headaches.
@@PlastervilleProductions TBH I love the SLS and the Z8 to look at but the 599 is an amazing drive, I can’t imagine how good it is with a gated Manuel. So I’m kind of inclined to agree with you.
This channel is a great fantasy of vicarious car purchases you always wanted but couldn't afford + a comedy of a man dealing with all the issues said cars have. I love it.
Seriously. I was interested in buying his Cadillac Eldorado and we emailed back and forth a bit, and he was very fair with pricing. If I hadn't lost my storage situation I would have 100% bought that off him.
Are you sure about that? He used to work for Barrett Jackson - the most fraudulent auction house in car auction history. I wouldn’t trust him further than I can throw him.
@@AB-80X He just walks around the showrooms and hosts videos for them. If there is still fraud at BJ then I’m sure he isn’t involved. But the fraudulent activity I can remember happened like 15 years ago which is quite some time ago.
Love you, Tyler! Things are going to work out, so sorry that you are going through it, it really is heart breaking 💔 and I know your daughters wellbeing is probably your biggest priority, and thats because you are a good dad, youll always have that, man, and that is a true blessing 😊❤️
All engines are very complicated to work on. The more cylinders, the more complication. This why when I am working on engines, I don't let anyone come up and start talking to me ( like Hoovie😂). Even in a simple oil change, you can miss one thing and ruin a motor. Those head bolts have to be tightened in a certain pattern and that pattern could even be two phases of completely different bolt tightenings too. This is just one crucial part of many crucial parts of a great engine rebuild. Also, once the engine is run in safely for 600 miles or maybe 10 hours, those head bolts have to retightened again. Valves may need to be readjusted. Many other bolts tightness may need to be checked. In a certain pattern. In a certain way.A new engine is like a balloon. It grows when hot and then it shrinks when cool. They are designed to allow for that but necessary torque settings on everything in the engine have to be obeyed to let any engine survive that. In low powered engines, these procedures are usually much simpler to complete but in high powered engines, they are mandatory. All of them. There is no short cutting the mechanic or saving the cost of the follow up engine rebuild maintenance procedure. These head bolts will back off and this kind of head gasket issue will happen. And most of the time, as soon as that coolant starts scoring the cylinders, a very expensive engine disassembly and repair has to be done. With ALL of the crucial steps to have to be done all over again. Having this kind of mechanical lack of attention happen on a piece of artwork that is a Ferrari engine is truly sad to see but it proves that every great mechanic is worth his or her weight in gold. That black Ferrari is simply gorgeous. Definitely on my lottery list if that ever happens. I'm not holding my breath.😂
I had a client inadvertently reveal what they paid another service vendor in a similar market, and the next year my rates went up. I sent the other vendor a note and said "you've got some room for inflation now." 😁
Its been great watching you get your groove back. The Murcie is heart breaking for us too but you know the routine. In a couple of years it pops up in the hangar because you bought it back from Dan on your right of first refusal.
Give it a year or 2 and he'll find a non running manual one and snatch it up before ed can, wizard will be looking at yachts again with a $20k quote and our boi will be back
Sympathies regarding the surgery. You are a brave soldier and I just pray the painkillers are great (especially with a glass of red wine). Dearest Hoovie I hope you recover and “bounce” back. Love your content and actually care about your well being.
Testicularily speaking, the cutting of the vascular plumbing lines really would seem to help the bouncy bucky balls to seek safe travels tucked away under the ribcage of R value in the winter, while also allowing for them to hang out below the pantleg of shorts during the coolant effect created by the opposite low hanging pendulum balls of summer that help stability when walking. Boston dynamics could make some balls for Atlas or Spot to help boost leverage high jump and long jump, and the surgery would include haptics for easy replacement.
Tyler, I have been thinking about that Mustang for a minute and wondered why you dont use that pressurized oil system any more? Its job is to prevent the rocker failure you have had. Rollers shouldnt need it but that tank behind your seats needs to be pressurized and opened before a cold start to keep that race engine lubed.
I currently listen to videos on my slightly base rich headphones. at 2:15 I was hearing a nice engine sound behind me (So whichever microphone was in use does a lovely job 🤓) . I'm wishing Tyler Lots of positive luck right now, because of all the changes. Take care Hoovie.
Those head studds will have stretced on that blown bank. All the loose studs are on the exhaust side of the head, thermal expansion of the head when it overheated, stretched the studs, which gives you loose nuts.
Gosh im going to miss that mercy. That car is what got me into lambos. Thats what introduced me to the channel. Thats why i love orange cars. Ill miss your friend as well.
Ferrari is mostly crap.... But you saying Shelby and Ferrari in the same sentence will definitely get you kicked out of most car clubs...... Your welcome..... Shelby is a beer and cowboy hat thing..... Ferrari is a wine and cheese thing..... And yes, not red Ferrari screams money!! usually you wait until your 3 or 4th Ferrari until you get a not red Ferrari....
I like watching Hoovie because it makes me feel less lazy to do the small 100-300 repairs on my cars 😂 I just think it could be worse I could be working on a Ferrari 😅
"I need to get this out of your hair" (on "wizard"s beard, he has no hair on head). Good episode though, I really enjoyed it ALL the way from Brisbane, Australia.
The 599 is my absolute goal dream car. There arents a lot of videos like yours going thhis in-depth. So, I 've got to thank you for this experience. Not sure if i'll ever get to get into one myself
Even so he paid almost double than the Wizard . If you used your brain you would have understood a discount can only go so far. Therefore he was still robbed by them.
@@ermias75ermis2 he literally said in the video he DID NOT pay the amount it said on the invoice. Also he didn't get it fixed there. He did the shit that it took to get him back to Kansas. The rest of the work will be on the wizard. Do you guys all have a problem with your ears or?
@@grabsme It´s a scam.Nevermind he didn´t pay the whole amount. If i charge so much a fraction at the end is still too much.Get it? It´s the principle that counts. You make it sound that he dodged a bullet when it is the exact opposite and aart from that the Wizard is still expensive.
Have always assumed it belongs to his dad. I think the Blazer you see in the background on the videos is his dad's. There's also an old video of them having his son's birthday party there, which would be a weird place to do that if it wasn't just a family spot.
Can I just say something here for a second? We have all come to love "the man" and the content incredibly. I have been watching the last few videos, and there is obviously something financially amiss. So, today I started thinking, has the time not come to give something back? 1.51 million subscribers, if we all pay it forward $1, our boy is hopefully out of the woods and back in the game... $1, less than the can of Coke, what say you people, can we do this? No more, no less, $1 to keep us all happy and give something back...
Hoovie should get the GTO grill for the 599. Looks so much better IMO, especially on a dark car. The factory grill looks a little busy, especially for such a sleek car design. It looks like it should be on something angular and funky from the late 80s.
I would be removing the oil sump and checking that the connecting rods had been properly torqued to specs. If they missed three or four head bolts/ nuts they could have missed a few rod bolts as well.
Transporting Ferrari cylinder heads in an other Ferrari: I experienced something kind of similar about 43 years ago: I was riding with an old Ferrari wizard mechanic. He used to work with Enzo Ferrari in the early Fifies and then worked in the Lancia factory. This crazy guy was racing through Swiss mountains with his Lancia Fulvia HF. In the trunk were 2 cylinder heads of a Sixties Ferrari 250 that he had to overhaul. When he was racing through the narrow mountain curves the cylinder heads were banging to and fro! I do not think someone would do that today! The guy was a lame person unless he was driving classic Italian sportscars. It seems he changed from Lame Jack to Crazy Racing John once he was driving those cars.
That is one thing I learned when buying a car, even from family. Just because a coolant overflow tank looks healthy, it doesn't mean the coolant inside the engine is. I change my coolant here in Wisconsin every couple years just to be safe. Letting old coolant turn nasty eats at stuff and can eventually cause internals to rust. Particularly when people in an emergency throw regular water, which often has a high mineral content in to get them going again and forget to remove all of it with fresh stuff. Point is for those who don't know, now you know...
Hoove, great to see you back up again after getting knocked down as hard as you have (and no, I'm not quoting Chumbawamba, LOL). Keep pushing on, and DRIVING ON 😁
