And you just know that if Ferrari made a shooting brake in the 80s or 90s people would be loosing fucking minds over it. Give this a couple decades and I think the FF will be looked at as a very cool car.
I absolutely love how down to earth Hoovie is, comes in with a $100,000 Ferrari and gets distracted by a Volvo 😆. He appreciates automotive history without pretense and I love him for that.
Hey Hoovie - glad to see you're doing well! Here's the secret to prolonging the front transmission: don't use it! In sport mode, the front transmission is disabled, and all the power goes to the rear wheels. The damn front trans actually 'pulls' the car forward at a greater pace than the rear trans.........thus, it is going to go 'boom' if used on a non-slippery surface. Just a matter of time. Kinda like the Jeep 4WD system - never use on dry pavement! The previous owner of my FF replaced my trans as it was leaking like crazy - $40K job! I keep mine in sport mode all the time! You can adjust the shocks to comfort mode with the button on the steering wheel - gives you great performance, and a soft ride on the highway when you wish it to be a cushy ride! I have twin car seats for the kids in the back of mine! Enjoy!!!!
Would love this to be true but unfortunately it's a bit of an urban myth. AWD still very much active in sports mode, it just disables above fourth gear or a certain speed. I think 50mph(?)
@@fonzeyontrack5212 That's true for comfort/wet/snow modes. It is disabled in sport mode. Rear wheel drive only. Oh so my owner's manual led me to believe!!!!
@@CTP1111I think it’s up until 2nd gear. Since the front transmission only has 2 gears. Also I heard there is a front transmission delete that is possible. Guy in Cali has one and did it. Saw it on “exotic car owners” page. Guy has a black on black one that he did it too his FF
@@chrisstaples703 I spend part of my year bouncing around countries in Southeast Asia and that's not always the case. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter the race. If the temptation is right, a weak willed human will stray. It's unfortunate.
Loyalty, or any other attribute, has little to do with ethnicity. Anyone who chooses a mate based on a stereotype is asking for trouble. Sample of one: my wife is Asian, and 35 years, two kids, and two grandkids later, she is still a great wife, mom, grandma. She’s still the prettiest girl I ever met, and I got a much better deal than she did. Choose wisely…
I have one of these I bought it just under a year ago and use it as a daily. I've covered just over 10,000 miles in that time and there's nothing I can think of that I'd replace it with (not even a Lusso - I prefer the styling of the FF). The PTU issues are blown out of proportion, there are now a couple of aftermarket solutions that (if you're in the UK) are a drive in, drive out replacement for GBP10K (approx USD12K) which includes upgraded components to solve the design flaws/weak points of the original. In a subtle colour (mine is Grigio Titanio) most people have no idea what it is. It's only when they hear it start up they realise it's something out of the ordinary. It is awesome. If you're thinking about it and can deal with the fuel consumption (average 12mpg UK), buy one.
It's not that dumb. A weird looking V12 Ferrari checks all the boxes for future appreciation. Especially because in 10-15 years there will be no more new ICE cars.
@MuitoDaora I doubt very highly that ICE cars will be phased out by then. Too many people don't want an EV, and we don't have the infrastructure in place to make it feasible. Think about this, you want to take a vacation. The destination is 1500 miles away. With an ICE car it would be about 22 hours of driving including gas stops. That same drive with an EV is going to take closer to 26 hours. ( probably longer due to having to take detours to get to the charging stations) That extra 8+hours additional (round trip) is cutting into your vacation time.
@@michaelbadura5897 Many laws passing around the world that ban ICE sales in 10-15 years (specially in luxury car markets). And the infrastructure will follow the demand, not be set in place before there are customers for it.
I've always loved the AWD FF. I remember Clarkson ripping one in the snow and Doug reviewed one the people used to haul their dog around lol. I love the looks and yeah you could actually use it like a car
I know I'm weird, but this is my absolute FAVORITE Ferrari of all time! Did your car ever spend time in Georgia, Hoovie? It's IDENTICAL to the one I used to see around here all the time, which made me fall in love with such a strange duck.
@@Devil_Dog_Ultra maybe he was refering to the driving cost. Lately I was thinking about mp4-12C, I could buy one but I probably couldn't afford to fix it if anything goes wrong on it.
I absolutely love those things! It's the Ferrari Family Truckster! I remember a car magazine did a series of stories written by an auto exec who used one as a daily driver, even in the winter for family ski trips! Probably the most practical Ferrari ever made. Thanks, Hoovie! I think you made a wise decision this time! Hope you're doing well! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
@@robertreinecker9007 Thought I heard something about that. Sucks. Can relate. My practise wife left me while I was deployed to Afghanistan in the Marine Corps. 😆
I always wanted one, love the wagons, just picked up a clean Sportcross after losing my shirt on a ML63. But this’ll never depreciate enough for me, thanks to Hoovie for fulfilling my dreams and letting me live vicariously
Hi Hoovie! I don’t usually comment on RU-vid videos but I just gotta say you have been the most consistent RU-vidr I’ve watched. It’s gotta be almost 6 years straight and I always look forward to your videos. Times may be tough but people are tougher! Stay strong my friend
Great video 👍The first Ferrari to have a hatch was called "The Bread van ", the latest was a development of the sheik shooting brake special's made to order😊
This is one of the only Ferraris I would ever want. I thought it was great from the first time I saw it in the magazines. It has some great lines and very practical. Good purchase!!!
It will fly up in value. Like those bmw z3 hatchback tennis shoes have. Its oddity really makes it one that should increase bastly in value ifbthe market stays alive ( there are a lot of very expensive apecial edition cars being made and only so many millionaires....
I'm a huge fan of shooting-brakes. Closest I could get with my budget was a 2014 Mazda3 hatch. Love th elooks of the clown shoe and love the looks of this FF. Enjoy it Tyler! Take me on a joyride when in Indy!
Must say @Hoovie filming in the hanger is a better looking backdrop and location compared to your home garage. Feels like theres a 'Top Gear' style race/test track right outside :-)
I wonder if Hoovie could get an audience to crowd around him in his hanger? You know, much like the three English morons did during their recording sessions. Hoovie could title his "Broken Gear" or something else as catchy.
I actually like the ff, I was stationed in Germany when the testers were running around and I saw a production version in Prague as well. I think it’s a looker and it’s got some practicality as well.
Man I've always loved the looks of the FF. Styling looks cohesive and good to me. I think price was the biggest issue with sales, but that comes with it being a v12 and I'm sure anyone who digs this shoot brake style is happy to have the big boy engine.
Yes really quirky but glorious at the same time. I would have had one at the drop of a hat but with only a 6k budget my choices are always pretty limited. Still, it’s nice to dream..
The GTC4 is a much better car and even looks better. A lot of the errors they had in the FF were fixed in the GTC4. So I would recommend going for that. It does cost a lot more, but its worth it in my opinion, because you will able to drive your car, instead of visiting it two times a year to see how far the workshop has come.
I think you’re right. For that price there’s a lot of other stuff that makes more sense. Especially since someone in the market for this is also likely to be looking for a “proper” supercar and something more for regular daily use.
We have a customer who uses his ff almost everyday. The paint is terrible and the Grills have all gone horrible with rust now. But it's still going strong at 65k with just regular service
I lost my dad in February of 2020, to what was probably covid at the time, but we didn't know it. He was one of my best friends and the person who got me into cars. I still think about him pretty much every day. I feel your pain having to go through lockdown with this massive weight on your shoulders and I'm sorry you never got any closure, but im glad to hear you're doing something to get through it. Might even insipre me to do something about loosing my dad, besides also bringing home crap boxes to fill that hole in my heart 😅
I don't normally like your supercars, but your strategy on exiting the Vette before it depreciated and replacing it with something that has greater utility and a chance to even go up in value (or at least go sideways) actually makes sense. It's not as fun as a $200 Lexus, but you can't get those deals every day. Wishing you and the kids many happy miles in this one.
@@philtucker1224 I just the practical aspects of the FF will be it’s strong point and one of the last true V12 GT cars; an actual Ferrari that I could live with.
I have valeted a FF multiple times, there is nothing like firing up a V12 Ferrari. It really does increase your heart rate. Plus the interior is properly italian, you can smell the italian leather as soon as you get in. Loved every second of it.
Never valeted one during my valeting days. Plus when we got exotics all we did was at most back them up or move them to special spots that we used for exotics only. I did get to rip around in a CTS-V wagon, RS7 sedan, modified GTR (bounced off rev limiter in first accidentally) lots of Panameras and various Audis and Porsche's. Stuff i wouldn't have so much as gotten to sit in other wise. One of my personal unexpected favorites that deserves a mention: Fiat Abarth 500. Had carbon fiber mirrors and trim pieces, and a manual transmission that was one of the easiest I've ever used.
I loved that car, traded up to a Lusso when I found the options I loved. If you want to know anything about the car since BaT, let me know. Also bought a FOA warranty prior to sale that is good until may or June 24. Enjoy my man, loved the car!
When the FF came out i was absolutely fascinated by it, and over the years its grown on me so much. I think its my favorite ferrari of the past 20 years.
I know a local car guy who must be in his 90s who has one. Rich architect. You should see all the front end damage it has on it from him bumping into things
So good to have you back Tyler! Really great episode as usual. When you look at the FF engine it has two power outlets - one in the front and one in the rear. Very cool.
I like the FF, but I've also owned a Porsche 928, as well as a Z3 and Z4 coupe, both in black, so... If I go that route again, I'd get a 928GT instead of the Ferrari, though.
my buddy had a c30 w the turbo 5. was a surprisngly spacious, quick, and well handling car. only issue was aftermarket support is non existent and parts are a bit pricey
Far from the dumbest Ferrari ever. Different and perhaps odd for a prancing horse but still commands respect. Want dumb? 400i That’s a beauty you’ve got there!
I LOVE these!! The 4wd system is so cool. There are a lot of the V8 replacement models near me, but they're just not the same. Has to be the V12. Those transmissions though, and other relibility horror stories, would give you a scare
Been toying with the idea of buying this car for 2 or 3 years. So appreciative of you for doing it. I was looking for that exact spec too. Much love from Columbus Ohio, thanks for so many years of awesome context
I think its amazing and honestly one of the few that you can live with on the daily. That's the ultimate Ferrari family car. Traditional isn't always a good thing. Gotta get with the times also. That thing is bad ass.
I have always loved euro wagons. Still unhappy with vw for ending wagons here in the states. Loved the looks of that odd duck from the start. It’s very unique.
Man, those under body panels are huge. They look like they'd be all kinds of fun going back up. It's an insanely complicated design.I sort of understand why they did it like that, but I can't even figure out the interplay between the two transmissions. Wow.
It took a bit, but I finally caught when you said you purchased this FF. I looked at the prices (22NOV23) and I was shocked at how cheap you got it. That's not even considering the stereo upgrade and transmission replacement. Great freaking deal!
I expected the Purosangue launch would cause significant depreciation, but given the current launch price, this and the GTC 4 Lusso should maintain a value of around at least 100K for some time.
I think the Ferraris that retain most of their values are the one's with V12 engines, so the FF and the earlier GTC4 that had V12s are still collectible
Good job Tyler and wizard amazing teamwork. By the way for everyone saying last video that wizard lost weight. It was just water weight. He’s fit and phenomenal. We love you bud. Keep the assignment going. Tyler you look magnificent bud glad your getting enough sleep and everything I pray for you and wizard all the time. And Doug
Hoovie: "Well, I think it's a great value and very practical..." Wizard: "Weird", strokes his nose Daniel-San: "... it's on borrowed time", can't stop smirking
The biggest thing I get out of these videos...is that while these sports cars are cool...theyre not worth the headache the maintenance requirements for them are going to cause.
It's fun to see Hoovie succeed at what he loves. 💯 authentic guy. A regular dude who made it happen. He should be an inspiration to the youth out there finding their own callings.
always loved the FF, extremely happy you've grown to like it as well. yours is calling out for some silver wheels too, I think it would look fantastic.
Getting out of a hundred-thousand-dollar Z06, in order to get into that FF, is smart as shit Hoovie. That's probably the smartest thing I've ever seen you do on this channel.
I really like the FF and the Lusso. Practical, and very cool, cars imho. Congratulations, and best of luck with it. It is true that the front gearboxes are a weak spot of these, so best of luck with it.
Tyler, you absolutely scored an upgrade swapping your C8 for the FF. That exhaust note alone is so distinctly Ferrari that I could never tire of its throaty burbling! The interior truly is beautiful and the fact that you can swap from family mode to mean machine at the flip of a few switches is ridiculously impressive. All things considered, your vehicular decision-making ability is certainly on the rise! Uh oh...this must mean a zombie apocalypse is fast approaching!
Front Ptu failures are typical on ff's and it appears to be preventable by putting a beefier C clip / E clip between the front PTU and the engine but its costly due to having to remove the front trans...GL!
