You should make a mechanical "rig" for golf town to ensure that all the swings are equal for all helmets you test. Having said that, you do an awesome job! Love your videos.

I've had a Neotec for the last several years. I love it. Comfortable and has great venting. I'll be sure to take a wide swath around golf courses in the future.

The Shoei manual ( page 14) of my Neotec says that the sunvisor only provides shade and can not function as a shield , haha. I've worn that model for 4 years before I bought the next Neotec . Totally worth the money. Thanks for the test. I shall not use it when firefighting. I have other headgear for welding and plasmacutting. Like yr channel!

As I use this same helmet, it was painful to watch because it's an expensive helmet so I cherish it! But good to know it has a pretty good protection for this kind of helmet, even though my main factor was the chin-up and most importantly the comfort and padding.

Hey RyanF9, just a suggestion.... as long as you're getting water blasted, why not incorporate some riding gear into the same test and use the footage later. That way you can test waterworld effects on jacket, pants, gloves, boots and helmets all at the same time, chop and edit as you see fit to make different videos.

Here's my experience. I own this helmet, as well as others. I have a 4 cylinder sportbike with very low windshield and V twin (Moto Guzzi Norge) with a typical sport touring windshield. Both have moderate slip-on pipes. On MY head it's relatively quiet. In clean air above the sportbike windshield it is surprisingly quiet. I still wear earplugs tho. Riding the Guzzi is a different story. The problem isn't the wind, it's the exhaust. Around town with the visor closed the pipe noise is almost unbearable. Open the visor a notch or two and it improves greatly! It's almost as if the sound pulses reverberate inside the helmet. On the highway it is better, but I prefer my Bell Pit Boss for that. I had no plans to pay this much for a helmet (Shoei), but the only reason I did was because my head was not comfortable in any other. I knew that if they aren't comfortable in the showroom, it certainly wouldn't feel any better after a day on the road!

One never knows how one might get their own helmet tested in real life, but my two biggest fears are: (both which I've experienced) #1 - Being hit by a projectile such as road debris. Even a large insect in the forehead REALLY smarts! #2 - Forward collision into something such as a vehicle turning in front of me. In these cases, a bullet-proof face shield and forward impact protection are important, so under these criteria it passed. I also don't like rain in my helmet. I think an event equivalent to a golf club in the chin bar would be rare, and if it did happen, it might be the least of the injuries. Though not a highly-controlled, scientific test, it's entertaining, great food for thought and a good reminder to wear protection! Thank you! Disclosure: I've owned a Shoei Neotec for 4 years.

Buy your GF a new helmet, the golf club's a lot of force than you might take, but the baseball bat, i could see that kind of force from a car hitting you side on or taking a corner wrong.

Great reviews, love your videos, great delivery and very entertaining. Although your impact tests are a bit inconsistent, especially if you use a baseball bat. It's hard to discern a baseline testing method with that, because it has too many variables, i'e. accuracy of swing, strength, point of impact on the bat. If you could measure the amount of force exerted, then we would get an idea of how much force the helmets absorb. The bowling ball I feel is more consistent because you have more control over height, and the weight is always the same, so you'll get consistent results using the bowling ball. I'd suggest start using the bowling ball from a specific height for all impact testing and ditch the baseball bat. Also if you could find a way to measure the amount of force exerted by the bowling ball, you'd get a pretty accurate baseline to apply to all other helmets, and have a more accurate comparison. At the same time, I know this is mostly for entertainment value rather than scientifically prove the resilience of these products, soooo I guess you can ignore my suggestions :P. Keep up the good work :)

As someone that prefers modular helmets... I like most with my preference know that we are sacrificing some protection with the chin bar in exchange for the features we prefer... and it is at least a little more protection than a half or three quarter helmet. And I am ok with that.

how is the chin test a fail? you hit it ONCE and it didnt crack. which means that it did what it was supposed to do. absorb energy and protect the head. unless you plan to use your crashed helmet again (stupid idea) this test was NOT a fail for me. ofc the whole testing is so uncontrolled in terms of force used in every test, that it borders with missinformation for the potential buyer.

Did some reading about the force of a swing from a baseball bat, and the force from a 200lb person falling 6 feet and the necessary force to break a kneck. A swing from an mlb player lasting less than 1/10th of a second imparts 4145 pounds of force on the ball. That is over 1/10 of a second and also a marjor league player. It takes 1,250 pounds of force to break your neck. A 200 pound person falling from 6 feet directly onto their head (apparently depending on coordinates and distance from the earths poles(didn’t know it would matter)) would hit with 2,400 pounds of force to his head.

GREAT review. I don't give much weight to the "Heat Resistance" test. If a rider goes down and is subjected to MAP Gas temps, things like skin, blood, brain matter, tendons etc would fail first. SO, IMHO, that puts the helmet at 7/9. Can't argue with the side impact or the chin bar strength. Thanks again

Very nice idea indeed. However for the side impact test and the chin pad, It would be better if you do something more standard, in the way that you can replicate exactly the same when you test any helmet. Like in the test when you dropped the ball from the top. If you always use the same ball from the same height is definitely a nice way to compare different helmets, not the most accurate but at least something ;)

I´ve just bought this and eager to see, rather attracted by the impresive lasting of the mechanisms after meltdown and building quality. The schuberts I saw seemed to decompose after some years on the inside and the shark though wonderful design seemed a bit tiring to operate regularly and how will be the mechanism after some years... Though I wonder why people care so much reliability at hits at such a tremendous speed... I saw some nasty accidents in the city and the helmet, even the cheap ones, were there brand new.

I liked the bullet test, just not sure how relevant it is for testing - need an analogue test comparison on that. The drop test on top , I would like to see a baseball bat to that area, looks better than the bowling ball, plus gives consistent test results to the side. Heat test - man, i hope I never catch on fire. Great vid, looks like a blast. I second the Bell Qualifier test.

I'm just curious if the bat swinging test is a useful test. Would you ever hit your head that hard on the pavement? I mean, dropping the bowling ball is more realistic as to what would happen if you fell off. It may not be a direct fall, you may get slammed down, but your test is more like a Race car helmet that would hit a roll cage.

I really like this new series. The shield impact took a bit of time and I find myself skipping that portion of the video, a first skip of any F9 video I've watched. I think it can be compressed a bit more, which is one of my favorite characteristics of F9: concise content. The measurements also felt a bit arbitrary. Like 3 shots to a visor is a pass.... is that relative to other helmets you've tested? Does it simply sound right? Is there an impact calculation? Just not sure how useful to consider the information. Lastly, quick side note: burning polymers aren't great to inhale, so just be careful there :)

Thanks so much for the video. I was never a fan of pull up helmets, and my reason was always chin protection, and this video showed it right. This is an 800$ helmet, and I would say that for that money, you should be protected. My opinion is that safety equipment is only good if it works well when it should save you, otherwise all the features and comfort are good as par of sunglasses. That being said I am super thankful you guys did what you did :) Big thumbs up for super mega awesome video :)
