Shogun 2 The Samurai will NOT FALL (Fall of the samurai) 

Hello everyone, in order to mix it up and avoid burnout on my end. I will be releasing mainly HOI4 with some new games mixed in at different points in the week. I will still put out my usual 3 HOI4 vids per week but I will also throw in some extra total war, eu4, stellaris, ck3 games in addition to this. It’s a cool detail that the military adviser who announces the turning tide of battles and so forth has an American accent, because westerners would be supporting the new and expanding Japanese armies but in ultra-traditional role playing campaigns like this, it is veryyyyy immersion breaking that for some reason these Japanese purists have Americans giving them advice anyway. 😂

I appreciate you still using teppos! My only thing with the idea of guns bad, firearms had been accepted by all the clans by this time. Now line infantry tactics were relatively new. The Satsuma for instance, were the Shimazu, who first not only got firearms in Japan, but arranged the means of producing them. The Battle of Shiroyama, the infamous battle of the last samurai was not sword versus gun. The Battle just before they used up the majority of their ammunition, and even managed to evacuate with a couple of cannons and shot. They fired till they had nothing to fire, then charged. The last of the samurai were rebelling not against firearms and artillery, but against the social restructuring that would have eradicated their family livelihoods

Obama is definitely my favorite clan. The fact that you can just take over all of the islands within the first fifteen to twenty turns is really nice. Also, you’re constantly fighting against pirate ships that you can simply take over without bothering to build your own. 😂 Bombardments are easily my favorite part about this game.

The Boshin War wasn't even the thing that removed the Samurai. Albeit I guess the Pro Imperial forces weren't Samurai. But the Samurai were only truly removed after the Satsuma Rebellion. During the Battle of Shiroyama.

I am all for having some Shogun 2 for variety. Despite the limited unit types, it's my favourite historical total war (when you don't mod the daylights out of it, then Medieval 2 actually does live up to its promise).

Well, there is now a mod for Shogun 2 called Old World Overhaul. It is simply the Shogun 2 vanilla campaign with the vanilla factions spread out across a map of Europe + North Africa + Middle East + India. Its awesome

This video has singlehandedly gotten me back into this game.

From what I got from the video is that Stakuyi is doing a bit of a Lord Farquaad. Pretty much doing, ‘Many of you will die, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.’

I've been watching a lot of total war videos about shogun 2 and the evolution\devolution as some would argue so it interesting to me u chose this time to play this lol

A little trick when fighting on multilayered castles, is to never actually fight on the lower levels, just retreat and shoot, as on the inner most level your soldiers will never retreat, they will fight to the death, causing them to be much more efficient in terms of damage per unit

It also came out when I was a sophomore in high school, good memories

Since I forst played this game i wondered why someone would build walls that are so easy to climb over and now I have a plausible answer. Thank you!

I have a few tips: the spear leavy can form a spear wall formation which makes them ridiculous on the Defense, if you have a multilayered castle you form the levys into spearwalls and make them hug the inner layer of the wall so the enemy can’t climb and fights the spearwall while your guns above shoot them to pieces. I won lots of ridiculous outnumbered battles this way. Also: use spear levys as meatshields when charging to protect your better units. This is one of the last Total wars in which positioning matters, you can defeat line infantry easily with levy gunners for example, if you position them properly.

Just FYI, armour in this game has no effect against bullets, it only helps in melee combat against melee weapons. All bullets (and cannon shot types) have the AP designation in the backend and that means they ignore all armour modifiers!

Ahhhh, I still love playing shogun 2 man. I felt like I was the only one! I’ve been meaning to do a traditional campaign, I’ve heard you can stay at modernization level one but only at the sacrifice of income and public order buildings

I like in the older total wars that models seem to pair off and fight but in newer games it might as well be two rectangles bumping into each other.

This series looks fun, part 2 (or even more episodes if you feel like it) is something that would be fun to watch. I remember once causing two people to get into an argument over whether the (Boshin War) Emperor was left wing and the Shogun was right wing or if the Shogun was left wing and the Emperor was right wing but that feels more of a fit for the "History of Everything Podcast".

This was the Total War game that got me into the franchise. IIRC it was the last one you could recruit and move units without a "lord."

I tried a similar challenge with the same Clan and it's been fun and one hell of a ride. I am going to tell you this now; The tempation to field at least 2 units of the humble Parrot Gun/Cannon in your army when you get to unify/control the entire northern provinces...is...like a sucubus licking your ear - especially when the AI starts fielding them during Land Battles.

You said sophomore in high school in 2011, my heart hurts. I was already into my second year of the marines at the point.

There is a mod for this that adds all the vanilla campaign units for FotS. It's on the Steam Workshop.

Shogun 2 was given free, during the 2020 covid season, the Fall of the Samurai campaign is great too. Love it, stayuki.

How to play FOTS Step 1: Play as the Satsuma Clan Step 2: Acquire Imperial Infantry/Line Infantry, Revolver/Carbine cavalry, and Parrot/Armstrong Guns Step 3: Turn on a playlist of Imperial Japanese marching songs that are bass boosted at maximum volume. Step 4: For the Emperor.

I think adding in a few games here and there will help avoid burnout, looking forward to what comes out. (I always enjoy total war myself). If possible could you move your portrait over a bit so we can see the enemies army composition though? We do not know what you are fighting against, minus whatever you tell us.

I love this branching into total war! For the second part of the video things are going to get spicy, you might have to fight every single battle from now. But it makes sense, the gun generally wins, so in order for the traditional units to win you need to lead them with a decent strategy so you can face their guns. And yes, I agree that we have lost quite a lot of features in modern total war games. I prefer medieval 2 to shogun 2 just because of the unit and mod diversity. At the end of the day everyone has the same units here. If you're trying med2 mods, I recommend Divide and Conquer for the Lord of the Rings and Elder Scrolls total war for, you know, elder scrolls, like Skyrim.

Maybe after this you can do gun powder only
