I really love and respect Shonda Rhimes. I wish the interviewer would give some space for discussion or her to really speak, I found it frustrating that she really tried to push her own agenda of being relevant and topical. Still enjoyed it though
The voice in the head of what you learnt and would teach when you know something another doesn't. Give people a second hand experience by sharing a story.
When they said: "Games can't tell good storys, cuz they lose the authors original intentention and power" games dont have to make you the all powerful author of the story. you can just play a character, and your actions have the consequences the author decided to give them. thats how the message is conveyed. I think these people didnt Play alot of storydriven Game e.g. taletale games and therby put really little effort into actually considering games as a enhancement of story telling, cuz of their biases. YOu can just make a movie, where the viewer decides if the protagonist hair colour is black or white: that would be a game and the story would still be as powerful.
Plus games can range from open ended (aka skyrim) to playing a story a la The Last of Us. The is especially lacking coming from "Grey's Anatomy" aka not a story driven show. Not that it doesn't have a story, but it's not like people talk about as one of the great stories on TV.
I feel somewhat slighted by this comment. As a 40 year old that has been playing videogames my entire life as a preferred form of entertainment, I think you sound somewhat biased against her point of view. I understand the point she is trying to make. Stories impact us more if they come from another's perspective because we learn more from things we don't already know. The more we have control over the outcome of a story, the less impactful it is, because we already know how we'll deal with most situations. If someone else has complete control, we're less inclined to know the outcome. Its why you see less plot development with sandbox games like Minecraft, because there's more freedom of control handed over to the player. While I enjoy the freedom of control myself, I think she makes a very valid point.
I thought it was kind of funny how they're talking about how good stuff is somehow hidden under mounds of bad content. In the age of search engines, stuff is very easy to find. The small-producer content I follow on RU-vid (and didn't have to look very hard for) is so high-quality, that only the very best shows on "traditional" television can even hold my attention.
Tim McC i thought i should now give an example for story enhancement: you have a coming of age story of a black girl in the 50th. You struggle with racial discrimination and you have the choice to conform or dont conform to these social structures. In School someone is always beating you up, when you decide to hit back, the principle punishes you. The player feels like he is always Losing no matter what he does. That gives you the authentic feeling most afro americans had at that time. All the other Charakters and for the most part the controled Charakter too are Designed by the author, he just designs multiple paths for them. Of course its hard to do right, just Like in movies its harder to present an idea as in books. But if done right(Ending of brother:tale of two sons) it is so much more impactful in my opinion, because you are part of the story.
Tim McC you feel somewhat slighted by his comment, and he made it because he felt somewhat slighted by her comment, as he thought she sounded somewhat biased against his point of view. It's all a matter of perspective.
Okay, having now read the majority of the comments, it's apparent that Cyndi Stivers either needs some training for her job or perhaps needs to step aside. Those shoes alone will not make the conversation interesting.
I love ted talks, but there it sounds like there is a total disconnect between the host and interviewee and change that has already come and is coming.
I dont know you shonda rhimes i disciver you by your 3 series and i adore the ideas the way to present the serie the vision. I am in admiration of ur work and i hope to discover more of you
Intuition is the prophecy of knowing what might can possibly happen based on information outsourced which can be a prediction of the future event and the thoughts are is the imagination seen as a reality
Shonda Rhimes really shouldn't be lead by a host. She has a well of information and it feels like she is not happy to be there and forced to answer the questions.
I don't think she understands how choice-based games work. It's not like you choose your favorite outcome, nay, sometimes you make seemingly minor decisions that changes the course of the story. The impact this gives EVERY single conversation and action choice is gigantic. It's like real life, only that WHEN your home is burned down, you can't do anythig about it!
Cyndi Stivers seems to be made of wood. She is rigid and ungiving; something false about her, while Rhimes is trying her best to make this an interesting time. The interviewer cannot follow Rhimes' lead. What a pity!
Do anything whatever you want but perceive only that things that is important for your improvement...Don't look at things only bad vision all things are important for human nature....But choose only good things in it...because of it you can enhance you understanding of good things and execute them in your life... Explanation is awesome in this video.
The questions were so bland and it’s like she wasn’t paying attention to Rhimes’ views and opinions. This interview could have taken an interesting turn but it was stunted by those stupid questions.
Shonda, please dont take interviews with hosts like this lady. Even a TV freshman can do better job than this Cyndi Stivers. No follow up questions on your responses, she just moves to the next question?? My Goodness..... !!! NXAAAHHH
