Congratulations to the Sound Engineer for not drowning out this veteran's voice. We don't care the slightest about "mood inducing music" to "set the tone", or whatever other excuse is given for extraneous sounds. The Veteran's voice captures all the emotion required, because he speaks the truth. I could hear every word easily. Thanks 😊.
Bravo to this well spoken gentleman. I was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and understand what he was saying about moments of great stress. Thanks for sharing.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video and listening to what this chap experienced. Absolutely unbelievable.......... the bit about 'was it the white cliffs of Dover or was it the white cliffs of Calais' got me. How on earth did they figure out where they were under such conditions. Brave, brave chap.
The sun is always South so if the sun is behind you then you're heading North. England is North of the Channel. I'm an Aussie so it's opposite to England. Nearly stuffed up. 😂
RAF pilot: "..we get airborne and climb as fast as you could go.." then a clip of a luftwaffe pilot jumping into a Me109 then a clip of a group of Fw190s taking off. I don't know who put the video clips together but they were having a laugh! Good speaker though.
Well done production BUT with so much available stock footage of actual Spitfires & Messerschmitts 109's, I don't understand how the incorrect aircraft were used in this video.
From what i have seen of these pilots, another qualification it seemed was you had to handsome and dashing 😂 19years old Jesus. I remember my two boys at 19. Bloody unreal to think your 19 year old was up there flying aircraft. Dropping bombs, shooting and getting shot at. Nuts !
It breaks my heart that so many spitfires were scrapped. If I'd come from a farming family, I'd have bought mine, even if it was just to be able to visit it, in a knocked up shed. Put vaseline over everything... Pat it. Like a favorite horse that wasn't going to die and break my heart. And nowadays, the family would sell it for a fortune! Grandad's unexpected treasure... Though to be truthful, my great love is the Lanc. Buying that for the cost of scrap and making a shed to keep it dry and out of the sun... Especially with shortages of building materials...
What a truly lovely old chap. I so wish I could regularly bring him back, to talk to, to take him out for some outings, give him some fun. and laughs he missed out on. I would love to know his life story. He sounds as though he would be a lovely, kind, thoughtful husband - and such a wonderful, gentle father.
This has got to be an American-produced version of this series.....numerous clips of U.S. equipment (helmets, oxygen masks, stick grips, even a P-51!) shown throughout the interview. Wished it were all British equipment.
