Yes, with IMR4350, being a single base propellent, you will get variations in velocity and group size as the temperature changes.. You can get some amazing loads with it, but it is a good idea to develop a hunting load at or approximately the same temperature as what you expect to be hunting in.

Scrap the ELD-X and keep working on the CX bullet. Do you have any slower burning powders? H4831SC, H1000, IMR 4831 or IMR 7828?
@hopefulballistics
@hopefulballistics Год назад
I don’t have any of those powders. I’m not scraping the ELDX. I’m impressed with the CXs so far

@@hopefulballistics I do see where a quite a few powders are becoming available again I bought some magpro powder for my 270WSM because it was supposed to be formulated for the short magnum specifically the 270 WSM and all the guys if you google pet loads was having success with it but they do say it is temperature sensitive and they were mostly loading 140 grain Nosler accubonds

@@scottscheuerman6170 nice! I’ll have to look into the mag pro

The H4350 variety of powder is supposed to be some of the most stable powder but I had never herd that IMR 4350 being that bad for being sensitive to temperature change
@hopefulballistics
@hopefulballistics Год назад
I have some H4350. I just didn’t want to use it up, it’s hard to find. If I continue to see big swings I might have to try it

Cool. Follow up i was looking for. Be interesting, if possible, to pull those copper xp bullets and reload them to be more accurate. They look like, with that big red tip, they'd be good performers.

I thought it a little odd that you favored the 270 WSM over the 270 Weatherby in your other video. Now I see why. 😄

🙂 You got a Good Gun 🤗, with plenty of velocity to play with! 🔥However, the reloading manuals don't always do justice, especially to the Magnums, regarding "velocity potential"! I can't believe that you can't find any "virgin brass" on the shelves? Up here, I have seen plenty of Nosler Custom Brass, Including for the 270 WSM (If I'm Not Mistaken)! The only thing I am still having a hard time finding is primers (Especially Large Rifle Magnum Primers)! 😭 Only CCI's are available, but not the Federals that I prefer? 😠 I'm not sure what is going on with Federal? 🤷‍♂️

Thank you! I have seen Nosler/Norma brass online a few times for the 270 WSM, but it was very expensive.

😎 I really like what you said about buying the 270 wsm! You didn't buy it to just get 270 Winchester Performance! Nope! You want to see what the rifle can really do! Sounds like so far, so good! 😜

I’m pretty sure I can get 3300 fps easily with no pressure signs with those 130 gr CXs
@ronlowney4700
@ronlowney4700 Год назад
The CX seems like a good bullet! 🙂 Unfortunately, I bought a bunch of GMX's, just before the CX came out! 😳 I also asked Horneday why the CX's had a lower B.C. than the GMX's and they told me that it was because they changed the way they measured B.C.'s, but didn't elaborate! However, if you can get those kinds of velocities and put the bullet in the chest, the animal is surely going to die! ☠

I know IMR4350 isn't temp sensitive enough to cause an ES of 150fps over a 20° temperature change. from my experience, you could be seeing a few different things there. one of them could be because your barrel is new. I've noticed that for the first 150 to 200 rounds, the velocities can be pretty inconsistent. Bryan litz talks about this if you want to read what a professional has seen. the other thing that I believe you are seeing is the loads true numbers. you probably would have seen those numbers if you shot all those groups the same day. the third thing that could be contributing to the high ES's is the chronograph you are using. I know the photo style can give false readings fairly easy.

I’m really liking the accuracy in the CX’s you are getting. I tried the 129 LRX’s and RL26 a few months back and it was horrible. I’ve had great luck with Magpro and H4350, so I’ll probably stay with those two powders in my 270 WSM. I do need to try my loads out with 145 ELD-X’s and Magpro.

Me too! I expected better accuracy out of the ELDXs, but so far the CXs are better

I use to shoot with the regular powders...then I switched to the temperature insensitive powders ...I gained in velocity and my groups tightened up ...I had big shifts in point of impact....my way is take max charge and then -(minus) 2% and I write it out so I can see it on paper and for me then I load up 3 tp 5 rounds and I also write out the velocity extreme spread and standard deviation to look for a pattern. I usually notice there are two velocity and grouping nodes ..one lower and one higher then I also load in .2 grain around both nodes and then which ever groups tighter ...and is repeatable that is the one I go with ......yes you will shoot about 50 plus bullets possibly 100 .... But when you find the magic load ....you will shoot with confidence for every 100 yards or meters Cheers to all

I'd forget about the SD numbers. The sample size you are using is too small to get any valuable data from it. low SD and ES numbers can be a fluke when doing load development. I would be looking at group shape and size more so for load development and use ES to help confirm a load for the initial load development. when using book values for load development, you need to be looking at velocity more than the charge weight. velocity is the result of pressure. the max velocity they got in that book is at maximum pressure. powder can vary from lot to lot. that is where the discrepancy between. velocity and charge weight comes from.

I have limited time, money, and components. Any data is valuable to me. I’ll continue to look at the data however I want. Thanks for watching

Also keep in mind for some reason monolithic solids shoot better when the jacket fouling is cleaned out of the bore. When going to a copper bullet make sure the bore is clean.

I don't know what chronograph you use, but that can make a big difference from day to day based on sunlight and cloud cover. I quit using my Chrony because when using it with a magnetospeed the Chrony was way less consistent and off by as much as 120fps....
