This is our shooting house for deer hunting. We show you how to build the shooting house. Our shooting houses for deer hunting are 4 x 6 feet so that adults and kids can hunt together.
We show you tips and dimensions that we used to build the shooting house. We also show the cool "elevators" used to mount the 4 x 4 timbers to elevate our shooting houses for deer hunting.

Ok so I am building my fifth one this month with only a few alteration. 3/4” Pressure treated plywood floor and 2x6 not 2x4 bottom base frame it’s just stronger 3/8 plywood walls because I had the materials on hand. Made the side windows different sizes with a smaller one near the door so if the wind is in a poor direction I can close one for some personal protection. I made the windows on the non door end deeper and shorter because it allows for better shots because we tend to sit with our back to the door We sit on 5wheel office chairs with 5 adjustable leavers. Cheap or free salvage. The area above the window opening is painted dark gray/green to minimize out outline. The ones to raise and lower the windows are quite height to allow the windows to open flat with to the wall. The inside of each window is painted dead grass flat to match the outside. Each outer wall has some spray paint to brake up the mono colour. We placed a bunch of screws in the studs to hold our person hunting gear. We installed hooks on every window and the door so they stay closed and a couple of cedar shingles as wedges to stop noise I’df a closed window rattles in the wind. Great design just a few personal modifications

Jakes dip reviews. Thanks. We really appreciate the nice comments. About the shooting house, the only thing I would change is instead of the windows, get some window screen and staple the top of the screen around the window openings from the inside. Don’t attach the bottom so you can slide your rifle under it to shoot. Best of luck.

Hi. Thanks!! 99% of the time it’s just wasp. We go through in September and clean out any of those undesirables. My favorite way is to go over at night and through a bug bomb in the shooting house. Of course the regular hardware store purchased wasp killer is great.

would you say the 4x6 is big enough for two people to be comfortable for a rifle hunt with room for a small buddy heater or the wintery days?

Hi. Yes. The hunting club I’m in has about (20) 4x6 shooting houses. It’s perfect for two. We have one old office chair in each of them with a fold up chair in case two folks (mainly young hunters) want to hunt in the same house.

Great video! Are you able to recall the dimensions used for the rafters that you constructed?
@useful.knowledge
@useful.knowledge 2 года назад
Hi. I made the rafters out of 2x4’s. The rise was 1ft while the total with of the house was 4ft therefore your run is 2ft. This gives you a 6/12 pitch. That pitch is a 26.5 degree angle to cut the rafter.

I know this video is less than a year old but I assume you hunted out of it last fall and may have other stands with the same design. I like you windows. I'm going to build a stand this spring and may use your window design. Is there anything you would do different with you next build?
@useful.knowledge
@useful.knowledge 6 лет назад
Hi. Yes, we did hunt a lot out of this shooting house this past season. Our season just closed two weeks ago. We harvested several deer out of this house. At first we were concerned about the deer noticing changes in the window openings if someone was hunting. However, that never was a problem. The first deer I saw was a 2.5 year old buck and he never even noticed me. I watched him for about 30 min before he left the field. We just lift the windows up enough to see the fields. One of my hunting buddies that is in the video built one with a shed roof and Plexiglas windows that slide up. That is also a cool window design. Best of luck. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Great question!!! They get in. I like to go over there at night, ease open the door, throw in a bug bomb, and shut the door. Those “out in the woods” wasp seem to really hate people and I’m getting too old to be stung a lot.

@useful.knowledge 6 лет назад
Toxic Sniper. Hi. I’m building another this week. For this one the only changes are a simple shed type roof (make the front 7ft tall) and I have an old entry door from a house that I’m using. The window height was perfect last season. We have office chairs that can raise and lower but we really didn’t have any window height issues. We put one up as shown in the video (in sections) and one that we built and setup with a tractor. One of our members built one out of 2x2 and it was good. One more thing, forget the window raising covers and just put some dark screen over the opening from the inside. I’m not putting those window covers on this new build. They are a pain and the hinges are expensive. Best of luck.

How high is the floor off the Terra Firma?(ground)? Hold 2 or 4 shooters? Not hunters! Only shooters!🍁🍁🇨🇦👀
@useful.knowledge
@useful.knowledge 2 года назад
Hi. The shooting house will accommodate 2 hunters comfortably. The floor on this is approximately 8ft from the ground. To answer your other questions…..a tree stand is strapped to a tree usually in the woods near a deer trail.

Hi there I’m wanting to build one of these deer blinds. I was wondering what was the measurements on the rafters and what kind of tin you used?
@useful.knowledge
@useful.knowledge 5 лет назад
Hi. The rafters are a 6/12 pitch which means that the top of the rafter is only one foot above the bottom of the 4ft 2x4 shown in the video. Each of the rafter is 2ft 2 13/16". I did the 6/12 pitch to have an extra foot of headroom. Leave the ceiling joist off of the middle rafter so you don't bump your head. The tin is some leftover metal from building my barn. I think its 29 gauge. Honestly any metal roofing will work. The only thing I would change is don't waste time on building the windows. I am building another right now that will just have screen stapled on the inside of the window opening with slits cut into the screen. Paint the inside black. Best of luck hunting!

@@nickmabe5438 Sounds good. Best of luck. I have one sitting under my barn that I am going to put out probably next month. Deer season jumped on me quick this year and I didn't get a chance to put it up. My only advice is to make sure the roof is sitting on a good surface when you put on the metal (if you built the roof like in the video). We messed up on one of ours last year and had to pull the roof down to redo the metal because it was cockeyed. A rookie mistake and all of us have built houses in the past. :)

Hi. If I remember correctly it was around $300-$350 for the shooting house. The "elevators" were $75 by themselves so that was a major contributor to the price.

@useful.knowledge
@useful.knowledge 5 лет назад
Kirk S. It’s been fine even with the 60 mph wind fronts. The “elevators” slant out which helps. Also we have the stakes that go into the ground. A friend of mine puts a t-post directly up under stands and ties all corners to that. Good question. Thanks.

bob madewell. Good question. It’s about safety. I can lift it with my tractor but i don’t have any protection in case the house falls over if a strap breaks. I’m not willing to die by being crushed by a shooting house. Just this past weekend, we used a track loader to lift up several shooting houses that we built on the ground. It was awesome. A track loader has a safety cage so no one would be hurt by a falling shooting house.

I am thinking about using my tractor to lift the house and put the legs under it on location. I figure I will use a good bit of ballast in the rear for the final lift. I wont be able to get it up as high as yours but I will be able to assemble solo.
